I have SVT as well and having quite a hard time accepting it even tho mine is far less intrusive than others deal with. I am a big baby and have a HUGE fear of death. Anyway, it was very compassionate of you to make this video to help others.
And yes, bearing down like you do when you go poo (laying cable...too funny)...puts pressure on the vagel nerve which is why it helps stop the attack. Coughing can also help. Also, submerging your face in ice cold water.
@sayyid14 Its gonna make your heart go really fast but I don't know about irregular! But it probably isnt the best idea. When i was younger I was pretty reckless and the Doc did say i should knock all that stuff on the head. It"s common sense really if you wanna go out on a leo sayer, bosh a few smarties and then a do a load of charlie don't complain if your heart goes a bit mental! Just get drunk instead!
@zamtoka I used meth twice of my life,i just want to know what it feel,I'm worried I'm going to die,my heart very fast about 265 bpm,my breathing starts to slow down &,my head feel just wants to be a stroke,i feel im near to unconscious,I do not think I have heart problem because im not smoker,i go to emergency, doctor give me beta-blocker to slow down my heart rate and diazepam 10mg to reduce my anxiety/panic attack & help me to sleeping.i swear to god i never tries meth again, just scary stuff!
@woo2fly18 Got my 1st one at 13....has it increased with age? Yes I think so but not a huge increase. I don't have it so often these days because I don't do exercise as much as I used to. Not sure about the Tachycardia question but it sounds like you have a similar thing to what I have
is all tachycardia classified as either ventricular or atrial tachacardia? is this how it works? i have tachycardia but ive only had 2 episodes so its hard to tell what i have! both of them were triggered by sudden movements in physical activity like you said.
I'm pretty sure I have arrhythmia and I've been freaking out about it and having anxiety attacks over it. This video helped calm me down a little, thank you!
How often do you have attacks? The past 4 days I've had around 5 attacks of this a day. It lasts up to 4 mins or as little as 20seconds, beats get around 220bmp. It was no caught on the holter monitor and I'm seeing a cardiologist Wednesday to find out more, but for now I'm scared S***less! lol
@zamtoka sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system is what you are talking about, talking about holding your breath, baring down ( bowel) movement, belching even taking a piss etc these are part of the parasympathetic nervous system all things slow heart rate down....sympathetic is responsible for ( flight or fight) speeding up heart rate etc...
Hey I have SVT and I'm 16. My heart rate goes to 190-210 and its happened to me 5x in 2years. It hurts my chest and makes me light headed like ill pass out. Does anyone know what causes it? I can work out, drink energy drinks, amd stuff like that and it womy act up. But it acts up randomly does anyone know why?
@ATLJosh Hey Josh,my son (23) was taking energy drinks and he was having this problem. his father was just about to have heart bypass, after his Father, had heart bypass and he stopped drinking energy drinks and it cleared up for him ,he has 5% body fat and I think thats why,it happened, his body,it doesn't protect him!
i got atrial premature beats i got it 3 months ago after my anxiety and panic went away makes me cough when i get it now im on beta blocker but i still get a bit i think magnesium is better than beta blocker i take metropol its my 4th day on it i just want it to go away its annoying. feels like muscle twitch inside my chest
@trkw0lf hey...how old are you>? i had the same thing metropol is horrible though made me depressed as hell...if you can deal without it dont take it...anxiety and panic are treatable , then the ectopic beats will slowly fade away...
omg i got this aswl! i found out i had 9mounths i and notice doing a poo and stuff helps aswl can you please tell me anythink els i can do cos doctors act like they dont care much and havnt done anythink for me they just hook me up to a ecg. love to hear back from you would be realy helpful thankyou
When it happens to me i just stay still and move slowly cus I think my hearts about to explode any second. Ill try a handstand next time but if my heart explodes im coming to see you!
There are a number of ways to halt an episode of SVT (other than "taking a dump"). Valsalva, splashing ice cold water onto your face, drinking ice cold water, inversion (Standing on your head), or Carotid sinus massage all work well. I have found that inversion or valsalva work the best. Hope this helps :-)
I've had SVT for 54 years. I get episodes about 5X per month. I use Valsalva to return to normal rhythm. Ideally, I sit on a step to bring my knees up a little. I take a short breath and bear down, sort of like taking a dump, but it's not exactly like that. You keep the pressure in the upper torso. I imagine that I'm squeezing my heart with my lungs. It's always works for me. Finally going for ablation in a few weeks.
nice video, I get the exact same thing.. I usually take a deep breath and squat down usually switches it back every time. Im 27 had it since i was 15, It doesnt scare me Ive learned to live with it. I dont trust doctors and the drugs they give you.
Thank you everyone, I just found out I have SVT im 47 and iI thought i was going to die,
I have been in and out of the hospital for 2 months now they keep giving me some med in my IV, im sick and tired of it when mine comes on I have very bad chest pain feels like Im having a heart attack. but now after reading this i feel much better i thought my life was over.
Im glade yours is not that bad but i also have high blood pressure. Im 25 and it sucks!!! My heart beat has gone as high as 300 beats and they had to give me this medicine they put in my I V and it stops the heart and restarts it.
Hey, i have SVT also. When i gag myself or cough alot it will sometimes go back to normal. My doctor put me on Atenolol, it seems to work pretty good. When i first had it, it scared the hell out of me, i thought i was gonna die. Well i really appreciate the video man.
My first experience with SVT was around the middle of 2009,I was 37. I had not been doing anything strenuous.I was sitting on my bed watching a movie.I thought I was dying.I called 911,the EMT's got me hooked up to a heart rate monitor, heart rate was 288.They gave me an injection of adenosine, and I converted. It was and has been a nightmare since then. Can't have catheter ablation because the area where the problem is is a dangerous location.Propranolol and Topral for life:(
SVT in my experience isnt really sharp pains in the chest...it is an accelerated heart beat normally set off by an action...in my case usually something physical. Of course a really fast heart beat is painful but just pains... Your condition sounds like something different. First thing is to stay calm and if poss go and the see the Doc asap.
i had an irregular heartbeat at 17 i'm now 18 the doctor said it was slightly irregular but it caused me alot of pain is this svt? i got put on propranalol
Thanks for posting this! My 10 year old was diagnosed with this last year and it used to really frighten him. We try to tell him pretty much what you said, but when it goes on for along time, he panics, which makes it worse. What you said made him feel better, and also made him smile, so thanks!
yeah i just found out i have SVT like 4 months ago. and tommorrow im accually going in for a cardiac ablation. and yeah my doctor and people that specialize in this say the risk of dying from SVT is so close to 0% its not even funny. but with STV if you have supra- VAN- tricular - tacycardia the VAN tricular mean its acting at the bottom chamber of the heart (theres a top and bottom chamber) and can cause strokes and heart atacks later on in life if you dont get it treated.
Many thanks for putting this vid up. I was diagnosed with SVT when I was 26 but soon after the diagnosis it became clear to my doctor that it was likely I'd been misdiagnosed and was simply having panic attacks. I'm now 30 and have been through a few years of wearing heart monitors, ECG's and Echocardiograms. A possible arrhythmia showed up on an ECG once, but after seeing a Cardiologist he concluded that he thought my fast heart rate episodes were just anxiety related. So I'm still unsure!
I had SVT and got the cardiac ablation operation. I still take a beta blocker for tachycardia. One thing I experienced was being told it was all in my head by a psychiatrist. I just want to say you're thoughtful to get your reassuring message out.
SVT might not be life threatening but you do feel like theres a decent chance you might die when it strikes. Fortunately it's been a year since I've had the ablation and I feel just fine :)
I found out i had SVT at age 10. I tried beta-blockers but they didnt work so the cardiologyst advised surgery when i reached 16yrs "oblation". Its as risky as any surgery really. I had it done at 16yrs, it didnt cure it but instead of getting the pounding SVT for hours at a time i now get flutters which dont last as long. And I also get some uncanny irregular heart rythem. Its still just as scary as its always been, but sufferers must remember that it will not kill you! PS Im 26 now!
Thanks for the video, it's very helpful to hear from an actual person. I was cracking up through most of it, starting when you said "marathon...that's a laugh."
From what I learned u can get a irregular heartbeat from almost anything too much caffine, exersize ,smoking cigarettes or stress I jus found out I have one and i talked 2 other people with them. No need 2 worry because some people go years w/o seeing a doc about it jus make sure you see a heart doctor and kno your specific situation Im only 22 and in good shape and 2 of my peers have them and we all exersize regularly no need 2 stress but dont get too complacent.
bear down (like takin a dump) , blow hard through a straw, stand on your head, throw ice cole water into your face, ...some of the ways my doc told me to control it
same here, i was lifting for about a year before it happened to me, it hit me when i just got done deadlifting, i havent lifted since b/c im worried it might happen again.
ps anyone thinking about having the ablation ( if yours is affecting your life too much) ive got a video up on my chanel about my experience in the hospital..
ahh this vid rox i needed to see this when i was stressing out about my heart.. also Zamtoka.. have you ever had to go to hospital for adenosine?xo
love this vid, had the biggest crack up when you said the thing about taking a dump, never tried that. I had svt , it used to not affect my life but then the attacks started getting faster & unstoppable.. not really sure why and im also an anxious by nature which doesn't help. i had the sugery which went really smoothly ..but yes you're right.. its very different to a heart attack and if you can deal with it and stop it that's awesome.. cheers to you love this vid xo
ur video is very very veryyyy helpful. i just got diagnosed with SVT and i did freak out a little after watching this video i am feeling a lot more better. And u r absolutely right the pressure release actually helps. :)
