The locking mechanism I designed has a small rope attached to the back of the book that goes through a small hole in the back of the bookcase, around a pulley and attached to the locking mechanism that holds the bookcase shut tightly, if you're inside you can just pull on the rope and it easily opens the door. When I get the chance I'll post a video of the locking mechanism. It also has the bookcase full of books so it's a little more tricky to figure out which book opens it :)

Sorry for not answering, haven't looked at this since I put it up for my sister to see, very surprised to see so many hits. The hinges are by a company called Rixson, model #370. It is a center hung pivot, you end up losing some of the space to walk through the doorway, but the only way I could conceal all the openings.
