I MUST HAVE ONE OF THESE. My current MT-01 is fairly good at blowing away the daft wee fannies that think their 1200cc hatchback with a noisy exhaust has a chance against a bike.....but this thing packs more power, is lighter and looks really evil.

Well done Kawasaki......at least one of the 'big four' has half an idea what we want out here in the real world.

Huge difference between being able to run a 10 flat and having excellent balance and ride ability. 10 flat is fast yes, No disrespect, but the ergonomics and overall feel of the Z1000 cannot be found in older bikes. That "engineered feel" is very modern and comes with chassis design and packaging that has only been made available in recent years.

Feels very light for a 1000, I bet it handles like a dream. The new powerplant is tuned for maximum mid range for city rides.Even the ridin' position was very comfortable. Kawasaki even placed 2 intake amplifiers, I havent heard it yet but I will be going to my local Kawi dealer in a few days to check her out some more! I bet she growls like a beast!

@Shabbernigdo yes... but you said zx9 not 10. the reason they "detune" them is so they are more practical for street use. Upright riding position, low end torque, and very ergo friendly "street fighter" not track bike. I ride an '03 and let me tell you it has plenty of power, and I can ride around town in 3rd gear at 4K and not worry at all about getting power when i need it. Not trying to bash, I just love the Z.

It just irks me a bit when they boast about a bike having a certian engine but fail to mention its a detuned version.

They should let people choose. Make a z with both engines the full on zx10 and the detuned version i bet the full zx10 engine your far out sell the detuned version.

I bought a used 919 instead of a Ducati or Aprilia just because I don't like that "Transformers" look, either. I think that's what you refer to.

That said, I am tempted by the Z1000, if those extra panels come off easily.

But then, I might just go for a DR650 type simpler bike, again removing the extras.

The Z1000 received a new heart transplant. For 2010, no more detuned ZX9 motor. Not even a ZX10 motor. It is all new. I'm getting my info from a legitimate website.

They could be wrong but I doubt it. A mistake like this can ruin them so I'm pretty sure they do thorough research before posting articles.
