Hey dude I have a 10 gallon tank filled with about an inch and a half full of potting soil and a small plant for air because u keep the tank covered up with a blanket to keep it from drying out. Is that OK?
stupid questions: do you have to ask for breeder crickets or will they be "breeder ready"? also i read on another site that there are breeds that chirp less. Do you know if these are common in pet stores (petsmart, petco etc)? I am breeding these for hedgehogs, can you gut load these like mealworms? Thanks so much for your vid, its the best/easiest one I have found!!
@101Zink dont be so mean, it saves money and you can sell extras to make a few extra bucks. if this is such a waste of time, then why did you look this up?
ok so i got started breeding crickets right i have seen them laying eggs and the eggs in the tray of dirt, i have been keeping the eggs as warm as i can but i still have had no sign of pinheads? it has been 2.5 weeks am i doing something wrong? any tips? plz reply thanks
im back again.... thanks to you i am getting ready to incubate my first batch and about to start another.... these crickets are chirping ALOT lately for about a week now i guess thats a good sign huh??
This is one of the most helpful vids i've saw on cricket breeding. it's very easy and cheap to do because i have all of this stuff all ready and im not usiing my small thingy that you put your crickets in after they hatch so now i can put them to use. THAMKS SO MUCH FOR THE VID!!!!
Hey i need just one question answered. you said you put a little dirt in the container which you keep your adults in, but wont the females lay eggs in that dirt? Also another good way is to have 2 huge containers and one you fill with dirt then you just put all the adults in there wait a few days then take all the adults out and you should get alot more babies then you would have in that small container. and with the adults you took out just put in another container til u give them to the beardie
I am the proud mommy to a few thousand crickets! THANKS! I spoke with a cricket ranch owner and she had me make one change: cat food has pesticides so use corn meal, chicken scratch, or dog food. And, male crickets have to tell females when to lay eggs so , make sure your males are chirping happily :) Now, what to do with all these cricket babies...........
cole i am gonna try this so i just go out and buy a bag of dirt and then put it in a littlething and mist it when it gets dry and how long do i leaveit in the cage for ,for them to lay >?
hey shouldice18 thanks alot this was the most helpfull video ever i was going to buy a heatlamp but you just saved me some money when you put the crickets on the uvb light for heat thank you!!! :) i have 1 question can i just get dirt from outside or does it have to be dirt from like walmart, home depot, rona, canadian tire?
hey, i now tried a container with my store bought crickets 3 times, no eggs, and plenty of females... i don't have a heatlamp on top of the adults, does that matter? any tips would be appreciated, i used pottingsoil for the container also... thought this was easy.. hm. any more tricks to it???
hey man i dont understand did you put the containers in the cage with the crickets inside cos u said you put it in but with crickets in or out of it plz awnser and is the mesh there so the crickets don eat the babies?
OK you put the containers in with the lid off so the crickets can lay there eggs in it then after a day or 2 you take the containers out, put the lids with the mesh on and put on you heat source. The screen is there for ventilation.
I used half dirt and half sand and you can get them at your local garden store or your back yard as long as there are no pesticides being used in your garden or on your lawn.
thank you soooo much, i just got geckos and when i figured that buying crickets for them ist costing me more than feeding my german shepherd, i looked around, and your video makes total sence
I leave the box in the keeper with the females for 24-48 hours and then I take it out and put it in the other keeper that is on top of my fixture for heat. I let them hatch in there, wait a few days, and then take the containers out and clean them out.
I put it in the margarine container and set it in their cage. They should climb into it or you could throw a paper ramp up to the container in their to help them get up.
Ya probably. If you have a thermometer around or if you have one in your lizards tank you could take the temperature over the vent to see if it will be a good temp.
That is a good idea, just make sure it isn't to hot or you will fry the eggs and babies. I wouldn't recommend anything hotter than 88 degrees Fahrenheit.
How bad is the noise from a group of breeding crickets? Your breeding method would make it very possible for me to keep a few frogs in my dorm room, but would a dozen or so breeders make it impossible to sleep? You seem to keep your bearded dragon setup in your room (if the posters are any indication!) so how do you deal with the noise? Thanks!
I hate to say it but they are very loud. They can only chirp as full grown adults so I keep mine in the laundry room with the door shut at night so I can sleep. So if you had a closet or somewhere you could put them you might be able to keep them but trust me they are VERY loud and annoying. Ps. you guessed it that is my room!
I have never tried breeding them without a heat source but Ive heard it works. If you don't have a fixture you could use your computer for heat to. If you put the containers in they will lay on their own. I'm sure moss would work to you would just have to try it.
thanks for the vid i needed to know instead of spendin all this money. see i own a bearded dragon which is 1 year old and it was tough to keep tryin to earn money to feed them just enough every day. i tried catching crickets in my backyard which worked, for awhile at least but this will really help me
hey man wassup? i breed crickets to. i think your way is awsome, but i jus wanted to tell you. weather u know or not. u can actauly leave those containers in there for a week and the crickets will keep laying eggs eh... cuz they dont lay all there eggs at the same time... jus thought id give u a little tip :D great video man!
From what I've read each female will only lay around 100 eggs before they die, and they do it in batches of roughly 10-20 per day. So a few days longer might be a go..
actualy about 3 months ago i was bored :P dont laugh at me . but nayways what i did was i watched a cricket lay eggs and i could her to lay around 63 eggs, and that was just in like... an hour? maybe more iuno i dint keep track of time.. cuz iv had about 10 females one time and prly got close to 6000 baby crikets i dint count them, but jus by looking it was thousands cuz the whole tank was coverd :P i know i had no life that one day watched it lay eggs ahha :P
haha nice lliizzaarrddss!! Sorry i accidentally deleted your last comment. I really don't know but i was told they lay 500 eggs in a life time. Your guess is as good as mine though.
I have never tried it but I'm guessing they will most likely get trampled or eaten. If you don't have a small plastic cage to put the babies in you could also a Rubbermaid storage bin for them. Just make sure to cut a big hole in the top and cover it with mesh for ventelation.
I'm pretty sure they have to be full size to breed. I go by there wings. If they have wings they are big enough to breed. If not they are to young. So you could either buy some crickets to breed until they die or wait until your beardie is fullgrown to breed the crickets so you dont have to waste any.
