because you get dragged by the under current while the wave crashes on the shore. it really pulls. you'll see the edge of the shoreline the sandbar has like a dip in. it's really powerful. i wore mine not knowing i got pretty messed up. i only been once i and you learn real quick why they call it the wedge.
