agreed Jay's verse was weak compared to the shit he put out 3 years before this song (black album). You could tell Hov was rusty, but he still did his job well.. Nas was awesome here as well
idk if any of u know but there is a black republican running for president,n lemme tell ya unless u r makin over a million dollars a year then ur in trouble if hes president
@1HZA Dude, once you realize the different meanings behind Jay's verse, not just in the lines themselves, but the people that verse can apply too, Nas' verse just doesn't compare. I know we're supposed to love Nas, and hate on Jay, because Jay is more successful, but open your ears.
@abcxyz2440 lol, why so reasonable? seriously, neither verse is that deep. nas is just flashier and his rhymes are way more complex here, which beats boring. i don't hate jay cause he's more successful--jay's got an ear for beats, and nas doesn't. nas is a better rapper in every category, but i'm not going to defend him. he could team up with a strong producer if he wanted, but he's got ego issues. honestly, not showing up on rae's ob4cl2 was kind of the last straw for me, far as nas goes.
@abcxyz2440 i don't see it--but depth is where you find it, so i won't dispute your response to it. "forever be in debt and that's never a good thing" is a thoughtful line, sure. but saying jay is above nas lyrically tho? i'll just say i disagree.
@flowretro Lets just say they both got at it. You really can't put one above the other, well at least not on this record. The theme was self explanatory. They both kept the integrity of the theme, stayed in stride & because of that, they BOTH aced it.

i was listening to this hip hop shit when parental advisory stickers meant something,
i was listening to this shit when people looked at you like you needed an exorcism for liking that shit.
simple if you wasnt listening to vinyl or cassete like my man said in his 98 freestyle

@1HZA Umh yeah, Jay totally wasn't deep
"And forever be in debt, that's never a good thing
To the pressure for success can put a good strain
On a friend you call best, and yes it could bring
Out the worst in every person, even the good and sane"
And I don't care about Nas' beat selection or his ego, lyrically, Jay is sooo above him.
