  • We drank some with a cobra and 2 scorpions in it, skipped right past a nice buzz to vomiting sickness :'(

  • @kingskibby That's terrible. I have a new rule of thumb with this stuff. If it doesn't taste of strong alcohol, fuggedaboutit!

It may be one of those things where your mileage varies dramatically from one shop to the next, with some using full strength alcohol and some using near water.

If 'cheat' the recipe they may use water or watered down wine. If there's not enough alcohol, the stuff inside can spoil and basically we'd be drinking a big gulp of bacteria :(

  • It's 100% safe to drink AND eat. But to "cure" an illness I'd see a physician and see what he recommends. But I'd take a shot every once and a while just because small amounts are good for you and help cleanse the body of select toxins that are very hard to rid your body of. So it's safe. Take a shot and enjoy a rare drink(:

  • i got a bottle of this stuff off a friend when he went to Nam, he said it was a sort of medicine, i want to try it but im a bit worried it might make me ill, it contains a cobra, some sort of root, and some type of nuts. can anyone give me any advice?

  • @Rilyn666 Smart to question it. Best thing is to be 100% sure of what's in it. If you have an Asian herbal medicine practioner then check it out. Not every medicine is good for every condition. Also find out if it is meant as drink or a liniment.

  • Hi, sorry i found this post on Google, and I already got the wine from buy-snake-wine shop but i am now looking for wine or liquor with tarantula or other creatures, do you know where to find ? Thanks a lot.

  • @asianWINEcollector I don't have an exact shop location, but if it helps, rat infused whiskey and snake infused whiskey are used for medicinal purposes and can be possibly be had in some Chinese herbal shops. The way of applying them would be to put some on a cotton ball and then tap a bruise with the infusion. Sounds strange but I remember growing up, it really worked. The whiskeys also had quite a number of herbs in them as well. Best of luck!

  • is it poisonous?

  • @notscooter952 Hi! No, it wasn't poisonous but it tasted horrible. Not in a "it's different than what I'm used to" horrible, but it was a taste of not enough alcohol to preserve the decaying animals and it tasted rotten like drinking death horrible, lol. It tasted like roadkill in watered down rice wine. I didn't get sick from it, but I'd recommend it more as a decoration than something to drink. The next guy might not be so lucky, lol.

  • that was cool man.. im trying to find a large bottle with both cobra and scorpion in it... And im still trying to decide if i should drink it? or keep it for display?.. so everyone i know can trip off it. lol

  • @xdman09x They had some pretty large ones there with both cobra and scorpion. I think sometimes one large cobra, & a couple scorpions. As for drinking it, I don't know if there's any difference in quality from place to place, but the one I had was decomposing and not enough alcohol content. I doubt it's healthy. You may end up with food poisoning. Chinese snake wine/whiskey on the other hand as I recall had a pretty high alcohol content and was fragrant & drinkable (tho we used it as a liniment)

  • @tinfamily cool man.. thanks for the info bro!... i just hope i dont get sick..lol

  • @xdman09x good luck! don't forget you can buy anti-biotics direct from most pharmacies in SE Asia. Talk to your Dr. (or research online) for the right kind and dosages and follow your Dr.'s directions (e.g. take it all, don't stop just b/c you're feeling well). I got laid up in a local type Chinese hospital for a few days and my Dr. friend came by to check on me and found that the care, though appropriate, involved only drip with vitamin C. no antibiotics, i got out of there and he fixed me up

  • I love those.

It`s hard to find large one though. I saw king cobra wine once on the photo, but...

Anyway, I like that pungent earthy taste.

  • Maybe I got a bad bottle? lol. The Chinese whiskey with snake isn't bad at all, strong whiskey taste with a little 'something else'. These were so weak (very little alcohol) that everything inside had decomposed...pretty nasty. If that's what it's supposed to taste like I'll pass on any more, lol. :)

  • I need to design some global gourmet. Farmed crocodile meat can be used to season some other strong tropical alcohol... I don`t know why so many people just stick to chicken, beef or pork when they talk about meat.

  • @coolstranger1 Had some crocodile in Pattaya and they did a really good job on it. Great tasting bbq, but I can tell they had to tenderize it quite a bit. I'd eat that any time though :)

  • LOL Its like coming to the US to eat fry buffalo's eyes when everybody else its eating hamburgers. I can picture the vietnamese guys on the back laughing while you drink it!! :)

  • Yeah. That's happened more than once. I was hanging out with some people in the Philippines and they asked me if I wanted to try balut. I asked them if they wanted some too, and they said "No! I don't eat that!" and made a yuck face, lol. I realize some people do eat it, enough to support little balut stands in the food courts, but they sure didn't eat it! :)

  • dude i drank this shit but it was hella old and was like milky white with tons of scales and me and my brother drank a fat bottle of it then ate some of the cobra

  • I am convinced that these bottles were never meant for consumption lol. I've had Chinese snake wine, which has flavor and you can taste the alcohol, but this stuff was so weak (the rice wine) and the taste of death was so strong on it (rotting snakes and what not)... Cheers to your brother for being able to finish a big bottle, lol. That's not a "fun" drink at all. hehe

  • you can buy those on ebay

  • thanks for that. lol I just read one of the descriptions on ebay. "The container has not been opened and any incidental contents are not intended for consumption." lol. I can tell you first hand why ... :D I didn't get sick, though, so I will count my blessings/
