  • who can ask for anything more?!?

  • SO MUCH TALENT!!!!

  • Poor Judy's rolling in her grave.

  • The guy has endless talent.

  • Oh my fucking GOD!!

Talk about heavy metal predecessor eh? 7-string shit man.

  • Wow!!

  • wow...!!!!

  • wow perfection..

  • fucking amazing wtf!

  • Wait, is that a seven string guitar?

  • @Fr05ty10 Yes

  • @Fr05ty10 he learned prolly to play it after his father, who's been using 7-strings since long time ago ;)

  • OMG! Have I been living on mars for the past few years? This dude is AMAZING!!!!!!

  • Yup! You have... BUT now that you've heard John, you are in for a real treat. I recomend you buy ANY cd's of his you find, NONE of them are anything less than deffinite buys, ENJOY!!!

  • Thanks mindflame7, I'l do just that! :)

  • Oh my God, that put a big smile on my face. That's soooo on point. OK, I'm gonna go practice. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • damn man.... that really made me feel good..

i mean, what's he doing? that was glorious!

  • John Pizzarelli can swing.

  • He fucking rocks the house!

  • Damn he suprised me. Thought his was average at first. Until he let the cat out of the bag. Totally Awesome!

  • Lovely!

  • Nice.

  • wow, nice intimate performance

  • tooo JAAAAZZZZZY man !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing!

  • Timothy Geithner has talent!

  • good

  • Ahahah that was great! I almost forgot that this song was first composed on a piano.

  • I´m trying to sing and play this song with the piano, and this version is very helpful

  • holy shit

i just shit my pants watching him

    OMG fucking crazy guitar

    its like jazz shredding

  • What a master, Take a listen and tell me how to sound more like John!

  • good solo

  • hahahha

he looks so surprised at the very start of the video.

  • This guys great...

Except for the fact that he's playing at such a fast tempo the melody just turns to shit.

This is what is wrong with 90% of the jazz players today.

Monster technique with zero respect for the melody.

  • Couldn't disagree more, man. John has great respect for the songs he's playing and the lineage of players that he's following. If you want slow playing with great melody, listen to Jim Hall. The rest of us will listen to John and enjoy it!

  • I agree. I prefer older musicians generally and John is one of the few modern players that I truly enjoy listening to because I can hear so much of jazz history in his playing.

  • @qrstvids ! Talent Talent Talent! but ! He Stands On the Shoulders Giants !!!!

  • wtf r u talking about man? xD

  • Maybe you just can't hear fast.

  • hes garbage for not singing the chords too...lol

  • this guy is amazing!

  • I love this video

  • Learn to spell

  • no, no se la quita, la tiene entre las manos, se rasca nomás antes del solo!

  • antes del solo se quita la pua de la boca!!!!!

  • absolutely beautiful voice&monster chops!

  • wow, that pick trick is incredible, didn´t see it for the first time!

  • increible, muy bueno

  • Busted a nut on this. This is the best I've ever heard is moldy oldy played! Love it!

  • The best version of I Got Rythm ever. I never get bored of this. Man Pizzarelli rules so much... The fact that he had the pick in his mouth makes this even more amazing. GREAT GREAT GREAAAAT VIDEO.

  • That's some amazing scat singing there, granted he's not playing as fast as many play these licks, nonetheless keeping up vocally with his fingers without missing any notes during the solos has got to be rough.

And his rhythm is impeccable, no doubt.

  • Played for years with his dad Bucky (John Sr.) Though Bucky doesnt sing, the playing is identical. John Jr. studied at the feet of the master. Bucky is 85 years young and still going strong.....Plays on lots of John Jr.'s albums.

  • I love this!! Fantastic!

    ms.music

  • I went to school with this guy at William Paterson in NJ. He was excellent then, and that was 30 years ago.

  • gawsh, like the smoothest voice and rhythm guitar ive ever seen. makes me wonna start playing jazz

  • damn does he have rythm

  • MISTERY !!!!

Where was the pick ?! He took it at 00:29.

  • in his mouth

  • In His Mouth ??!! How can he sing with a pick inside his mouth...haha !

  • It's like a magic trick. I think he had it tucked inside one of the joints of his right hand fingers (pinky or index likely).

  • and here i was thinking 7 strings were only for metal:P

    amazing stuff:)

  • then how do you explain I have a friend that have a 7 strings Classical guitar ?

  • i was expressing my shock, not stating a fact smart one.

i acknowledged it, i just didn't know that before.

  • djee..

  • Keep on playing

  • I was wondering why i couldn't find this vid "I got rhythm"...

    you mispelled "rhythm" lmao

  • funny u mentioned that, cuz i was looking how to spell "Rhythm" lol

    Thanks! xD

  • tigran, tienes un gusto refinado, un beso

  • Dang.

  • Howard Roberts was my favorite....But

    John is now!

    Just amazing talent.

  • "Why all these fools are tryin' always to play the same licks that Bird, Dizzy and me have already played long time ago, don't they have anything new ?!" Miles Davis

  • Swings! 5 Stars.

  • I give up

  • the 7 string adds a really nice warmth to it, the scatting + the playing is so ridiculously good and the chord soloing is so fricken cool and unbelievably clean. Most importantly, the music sounds great and it swings! Ok enough compliments! Just listen and enjoy.

  • that 7th string got me mad x) i cant 'get' his arrangement of this song and i would like a lot... to try to understand whats happening... usualy we learn a lot borrowing stuff xP

    "we all borrow" GB

  • the only thing cooler would be if he sang a walking bass line while soloing.

  • Very good - if you have any comment, please do it better if you can.

  • rolf,

    1. Do you mean if you have a "negative" comment?

    2. Why must one be able to do something better than another person in order to comment or criticise it. Can't an ordinary person without a special talent make an honest and accurate judgement?

  • Hi Tom,

I mean nothing negative. I am a musician myself and think that this performance of John Pizzarelli is amazing. Your misunderstaqnding of my comment will be caused by my bad English as a Dutchman.

    All the best.

    Rolf

  • Sweet!

  • That's amazing. The chord part of his solo seemed like maybe something he'd worked out ahead of time? I'll be studying this, it sounds great.

  • I wish I had that rythm!

  • that guy is the best!!!!!!!!

  • he is definitely singing and playing the solo

its true you could memorize that... but I think that comes from just pure talent

  • great feel, great riffs, excellent.

  • Any good improviser sings in the mind, the lines being invented. I agree, singing what you are playing, compared to singing counter melody, might be easy. But man that was NOT easy. It has to come naturally. The guy is a wizard.

  • Genuine class!

  • holy crap! Look closely at the 27second mark. He MOVES a freakin pick from the side of his mouth to the front, WHILE SINGING, then pulls it out!

  • grande pizzarelli!!!

  • i think in the running part of his solo, hes singing what hes playing as well. that or theres something going on with the mic, but i see his mouth moving. If he's singing the part as well thats incredible, because first of all, what hes playing is hard! then, he has to actually play what hes singing, and that takes talent and lots of it

  • he is singing (scatting actually) the solo

  • Singing a different melody rhythmically while playing is hard, not singing the same thing.

  • simply...you've to be a sorta George Benson..or even more..

  • he is; check out the live a birdland cd. this the really short version!!!!!

  • This guy's amazing. I have his album "my blue heaven" and it's damn great too

  • Wow,wow very good

  • Boognish; Thanks for your critical analysis. I can tell from your comment that you've studied music extensively--more than you've studied capitalization and punctuation, anyway--and that your future is clearly that of a music critic. If only others on YouTube could analyze things with your clarity and wit.

  • JimThayer: well,, your comment is just as dumb. claiming he is the MOST talented.. don't get me wrong, he is totally awesome, but there are a lot others just as awesome and talented.

  • Pizzarelli is the most talented performer around today doing jazz and standards.

  • no he isn't

  • Boo.

  • as a singer guitarest i thought i was pretty good, but this guys a million light years ahead of me

  • Always hear great things about you!

  • check out the song fools fall in love john pizzarelli great tune

  • i've played with him before. He's great, and funny

  • Shit shit shit he's good. Scattin' to the max!

  • Wow this guy has got some SKILLLLLLLS!!! VERY COOL!

  • u look like the guy that works at our school on computers

  • genius!

  • Imagine at an audition where the band leader says "I want you to play the intro bridge exactly like this" umm, I'd probably stick with my temp job a little longer.

  • Crazy.

  • WOW! pizzarelli and his dad are both the bomb

  • He is awesome. I'm gonna go see him in a few weeks, cant wait!

  • Amazing sense of swing and time!

  • Oh, very good. Crooner's voice and amazing guitar!

  • the pick's not in his mouth, it's pinched between his index and middle finger---he just does that little swipe at his face to readjust it for soloing. Pizzarelli rules.

  • born to do that...

  • Awesome!

  • I played with this guy! Check out my i got rythm video on piano. I am a lot worse at this guy!!!

  • fark! This guy is seriously good!

  • este tio es un puto maquina

  • rofl huahuahua

  • Like father, like son. Pizzarelli genes carry an outstanding sense of harmony.

  • Rosenwinkel doesnt have perfect pitch. He uses an electronic voice effect on his guitar.

  • Amazing! Hes definetly got rhythm!

  • only fuck!

  • perfect pitch excellent just a few like him rusenwinkel, richard bona, etc...

  • Nice guitar!

    'I got my girl..'

    Did you know original words?

    It's guy,not my girl!

(check out upcoming shows...spread the word!!!)

  • lol dit dit dit ditta do. that was pretty cool. it made me smile

  • Absolutely incredible.

  • Aff... he came here at my city (BH, Brazil), and I missed his show. Well, at that time I didn´t know his musics at all! Shit!

  • DUDE!!! THAT IS GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!

He's really good, but he could have placed the pick on a mic holder. ho hohohoho!

    great tune, tho.

  • I'll go get a CD ordered right now :)

    Nice vid!

  • so good

  • jeez that guys owns!!

  • i love him... one of the most swinging cats.

  • John Pizzarelli is AMAZING! We met him once after a concert and, since I didn't have a camera on us, he drew me a self-portrait caricature to remember him by! Very friendly guy :)

  • great stuff!
