"Canadians dont want another election" Yeah because we had one 2 months ago (from when this clip aired) ....Canadians want parliamentarians to work together...yeah guess what that means?? Not overthrowing a democratically elected government.
Nothing but a big pissing contest when you get right down to it- the opposition should have let Harper take away their funding and walked out of Parliment and let Harper run things like a Dictator.
OK finally I see this Dion video... after reading about the "disaster" in the press. Sorry I can't see what the fuss is about. What's so terrible about it? I thought that content-wise his speech was more coherent than Harper's... Harper's speech was disappointing because content-wise it was basically just a pat on the head to Canada, saying "leave me alone and just trust me"... I do agree that Harper's production values were better than Dion's... is that all that matters to Canadians?
I agree with yirphd, what is the media going on about this speech being so bad? His speech is clearly not delivered in his language of choice, but anyone whose willing to listen can easily hear a very just argument that should leave Harper feeling uncomfortable.
No, but what you don't know is that the video was delivered late. What you don't know is that it was too long. And when you combine it with the low production values AND more importantly, Dion's history and approval ratings, it just becomes overwhelming.
He had over eight hours to produce just under eight minutes of video. He failed.
You can't have a PM who can't respect deadlines and can't look and sound professional and confident.
Uh yeah, fuck you. Alberta is sweet. I'm a left wing dude, living out west, and I don't agree with either party. Canadian Politics is currently broken, and the whole country is acting like children. I've been across this country, I love every part.
CANADUH, CRIZUS, TOGEDER, this guy needs a better accent :D srsly harper is the man this country needs, he as a degree in economics which makes him a suitable and strong prime minister for this global economic crisis. AND I DONT KNOW WHY PPL HATE STEPHANE SO MUCH, HE MEANS WELL :(
Other than its being wooden and monotonous, I see little wrong with this speech. Rather, many people seem to violently dislike Dion, perhaps for his accent and failure to connect with his audience, and the message gets lost.
I suspect his goose was cooked from the time the Tories systematically attacked him when he first became leader. As for the Bloc, did Duceppe really gloat over the extra billion or whatever? If so, add that to the catalogue of hubristic blunders in this episode...
Harper is taking Dion's party money.Boohoo.They should have let him do it,the decimation of the liberals and NDP parties would be good for the country. We liberals are crooks and pinheads.
Stop bitching Quebec! its a great place to live even for english speakers. See the recent polls, Quebec dont want to separate anymore. They keep voting for the Bloc Quebecois because its the only party representing them. There is a real need to protect french language there. Its part of our heritage and its one of the things making us different from our southern neighbour.
Thats a laughable comment. Alberta is the driving force of the Canadian economy, and you selfish bastards out east won't even have the courtesy to be polite to us.
Look who cares I'd be happy if Alberta separate from Canada because people think too differently there then people in the east and its because of them that we're stocked with a conservative government. And we dont have to be polite with you because you think you're so superior with your gas and all this stuff so you have a lack of respect for Quebeckers because one of them looks stupid of television.
We have no respect for Quebecers because they think of no one else except themselves.
Quebec gets more out of our confederation than another province amd still it is not enough. They are like a spoiled little brat saying NO I WANT MORE.
Quebec voted for separation last election when they voted in 50 block members instead of any other federal party.
We should move the government back from hull and put it where it belongs in Ottawa. Enough trying to please the fucking french bastards.
Look you fucking racist. You don't base you're argumentation on any facts so watch the true numbers before saying we get more of the confederation than other provinces because we sell electricity to ontario and united-states half the price it should be. And we vote for the block because of jerks like you who think english people deserve more than french people because they are so better. And yes you should get youre fucking federal government from hull and separate from Quebec we'd see whos wins
I like most people in Canada don't give a shit if you want to leave or not. Next time I will be out helping for the Yes side if there is another referendem. Jai moi voyage.
Your province recieves more that 8 billion dollars more that you put into the federal pot, whereas Ontarion receives 20 billion less.
Because of your province the rest of Canada has to offer everthing in french whereas in quebec you don't have to offer anything in english. Look at you road signs, all fucking french. goodbye
French I'm happy to see your angry angainst french service in Quebec because in Montreal I cant get french service Half of the time. And I cant in the rest of Canada either. Just to remind you french is still one of the main language in Canada as the constitution say. (It's: J'ai mon voyage)*
We don't want to be treated better than the rest of Canada, we only are a different province who wants their rights as a different province to be respected.
If you want Quebec to go away, in a democracy you can always ask for it and maybe M. Harper (is he still has the lead then) will think about letting us away.
That's what we've been fighting for and that's what western canada did not want.
You secede and you know that the U.S., most of Europe and Japan will take Anglophone Canada's side. You can't speak French in a country that HAD TO FIGHT TO GET ENGLAND OUT OF ITS BUSINESS! The constitution wasn't repatriated so that you could shit all over Canada's English ties.
Secession tends to result in civil wars that kill thousands of people and create some resentment on the losing side that doesn't ever really die out. (America can attest to that. Jack Layton will become your Lincoln.)
...wow, I hope you do realize that the west is so important to us for natural resources. Wait did Quebec sign Canada's Constitution, they did not. Quebec is a beautiful province but saying that the west shoulden't apart of Canada? Well maybe Quebec should sign on the Canadian constitution first.
Quebec would've signed the constitution if it wasn't of every bad move the Canadian PMs had done in the past, like in 1981, when Trudeau had called every province prime ministers to sign the constitution while René Levesques was still sleeping, which had resulted in a constitution excluding Quebec from all the advantages.
Quebec signed the 1987 consitution, but Manitoba and Newfoundland did not sign it, cancelling the whooe project.
Not to sound stupid here, but at the same time, is Harper's bid to counter their move not also 'legal'? I ask because I keep hearing people say 'The coalition is LEGAL, so Harper should just step down!' But (putting my own bias aside for the moment), isn't Harper's move to block them by shutting down the house just the flip side of the same 'legal' coin? And if so, then it seems that people are using a weak argument by saying that he shouldn't/can't block them.
You're absolutely right, kim. The NDP and the Liberals used a loophole and the Conservatives countered with a loophole.
A 'legal' move against a 'legal' move.
The Bloc - a group with designs on leaving the country - are the glue that hold the Pig Three coalition together.Everyone knows exactly where the Bloc is coming from in regards to their agenda. It says something terrible about the NDP and the Liberals that the Bloc is the honest party in the Pig Three coalition.
Billions of extra goodies for quebec, deserved or not, anti-business socialism during a recession, "enviromental" legislation designed to gut the western economic engine in order to pay for it all?
A party that only runs in one province? A party that has PUBLICLY on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS admitted to writing off the west as a consideration in policies, just because they don't vote for them enough? The only party with credibility in the coalition is the NDP? Seriously? The dippers?
Really? Duceppe said something about "at least $1.3 billion we would not have otherwise gotten". An election is a little bit cheaper than that. There's also the matter of the "PERMANENT consultative mechanism" and acknowledged policy veto.
If the Bloc wants anything they have to either run outside quebec, or they have to play with others. Quite simply, they are the whores of Parliament, and will lie with whomever pays their province the most. Harper gave them same deal as Alberta, They wa

There should be a new party in Canada....One that stands for what people think goverments today are for, to work for the people and be free of corruption. Made up of everyday people that trained on how to run the positions in the goverment. Something like "The Peoples Party Of Canada" seems pretty self explanatory.
Well no surprise, the Dumbasses in our great goverment have found somthing new to make up. Think that those parties that have long been fighting each other, all of a sudden would come together for the people? ha, Dion was going to step down form being the party leader of the liberals but since this new oppertuinty of him being Prime Minister showed up, hes back on TV, hes not there to help the people hes there to help himself.
Just goes to show that Dion is not a suitable choice to lead the country. What kind of self respecting politican makes a cellphone quality video to air on national television and submits it late? The Harper government might not be 100% perfect, but there could be no positive outcome from allowing Dion to run a coalition government, or any government within the borders of our great nation.

u lose get out it for fuck sake the whole world is laughin at us like we r already a joke to the fcukin world pussy way to show ur fench side fag (not fench canadian)
You say that this coalition government is a democracy? Funny ... I don't recall any of those goons asking for my opinion! Our democratic say happened 2 months ago! Harper has exposed them for what they have always been , greedy , corrupt , and spoiled little children.
Did anyone happen to notice that two books behind Stephane Dion were called "Hot Air" and "365 Days"??? I am not a conservative, but this 3-ring circus of a coalition is ridiculous. We need a real government. Throw all these idiots out, and get some new candidates. Seriously. (Nice quality tape from Smilin' Jack's cell phone...)
its unintelligent to call leaders like Harper or Dion stupid or evil, they believe in a certain ideology and they actually believe that it is good for Canada.
And the french version was 10x worst!!! In the begining you hear weird voices then in the middle of a sentence it cuts, restarts the same sentence with a different ending and focuses even closer to his face!!!
Yes Ive studied socialism and I can assure you that Canada is far from it!!!
Socialism is just use as scarecrow by the PM and his party and it's working on you and on thousands of others canadians...The republican party did the same thing trying to discredit Obama (Obama=socialism, TOO FUNNY!!! And people believe it!!!!!!)
Personally, i see the real issue IS THE ECONOMY. Isn't that what got us here in the first place? As informed voters that is what we should be taking issue with. Not the stupid Bismarkian politics and pointless talks of "democracy", a coalition is democratic in our parliamentary system of democracy. However, i see Dion and his economic plan as rash and ill planned. As he clearly stated that he will throw money around like candy. Cooler heads need to prevail in planning for our economy.
A very good point you make. While I hate the thought of the Libs forming a coalition with the NDP, it is because I don't like their policies. If I am honest, I have to admit that if there were two parties for whom I had a strong affinity, you probably wouldn't hear me complaining about the possibility of them forming a coalition.
So, while I am against an NDP/Lib coalition, it isn't because it's 'against the law'. But it should be against the law, whether it's the Libs, NDP, Cons, or anyone else.
It seems to me that the only right and fair way to approach such things is to let US decide. I've heard quite a few large L Liberals on the radio in the past couple of days saying they will NEVER vote Liberal again because of this. I don't think they're saying it because of Dion, but because of the undemocratic principle of it
Europe is just farther down that slippery slope, but we're on it as well.
Funny thing: I've met older people who left mainland China during Mao's reign of terror, to get away from its communism/socialism, to come to Canada for it's 'democracy', who have told me (with much displeasure) 'Canada is becoming a communist country!'
Granted, they probably meant 'socialist', but I think it says a lot about where we're headed when people from China say that.
This guy is a knob. Either it goes to a vote or Harper stays. Man, how did it come to this. The guy led the liberals to the lowest vote total in history, now he might be the next Prime Minister in the same year.... Jeebus.
This guy is a piece of work. He says that concession is important and government leaders need to work together. He says Harper is too partisan. On the other hand he apparently finds the Bloq less partisan, and more willing to work together. Isn't the Bloq the party that wants to dissolve the Canadian Union? I think Dion and Layton's desire to run the show have them making deals with the Devil.
Hey! I live in Ontario, don't leave me on the wrong side of the wall with this guy. Quebec is just one province in Canada and the only french one, how is it they can't find a guy who can speak english and doesn't look like a douche.
We should build a big concrete and steel wall along the east border of Alberta, and be done with it. All the leftist/socialist types can head back east, and get a passport if they want to visit. Well....in a perfect world...
For myself, I rather have a leader who isn't that able to communicate effectively in English then one who can easily f*ck you with is great talk. For me, the "worlds first language" should be COOPERATION.
Exactly. I'm tired of Dion being portrayed as a dumb frenchman. I find that when he speaks in french, he appears very intelligent. What I also like about him is that he's willing to be honest about taxes and what not instead of bullshiting people just to get elected.
i appreciate that hes a capable leader but as much as we wish to not be superficial, we have to admit that its a factor and all factors count, so when the leader of my country steps on the world stage and represents me, i dont want the world asking themselves if he is verbally challenged. and cooperation isnt a language, its someones attempt to discredit and ignore the obvious statement: his english is disgustingly poor.
I wonder how many world leaders you have heard deliver speeches in English (when it is not their first language) to compare against. It sounds like a mistake to me to assume everyone on the international stage is a master of English, or that it is a requirement to have mastery over the language to govern a people. We have two national languages, he speaks both fluently, and one with mastery. That is more than can be said of our current PM. Please try to discard your personal bias.
other world leaders at least live in coutries where the PRIMARY language is NOT english. with all word spinning aside lets be real, we have 2 official languages but we have 1 PRIMARY. i want my leader to be a master of it and not have it be weakness which just undermines his message and renders it almost pointless as it falls on deaf ears. The general public is not as forgiving as those who CARE to decipher his charlie brown impression.
No, Dion does not speak English fluently. He has a mastery of french, but only 22 per cent of Canada's population is francophone. Over seventy per cent is anglophone.
And honestly, Harper's french is better than most french people!
He's talking about investing in municipal governments with regards to what they already take responsibility for and for what those subsidiary governments do with budgeted money. We need a federal budget, not more federal control of those subsidiary governments. His proposal claims federal all responsibility at the municipal level and centralizes everything the federal government is not responsible for.

There is no weathering this storm - it is the market correcting itself - lots of us are going to suffer before its all over.
This coalition can spend as much as it wants, they are only postponing this financial collapse.

its unintelligent to call leaders like Harper or Dion stupid or evil, they believe in a certain ideology and they actually believe that it is good for Canada.

And people believe it!!!!!!)

haha, It's ironic how that white book on the top shelf says "Hot Air" on it....what a goof.

If I am honest, I have to admit that if there were two parties for whom I had a strong affinity, you probably wouldn't hear me complaining about the possibility of them forming a coalition.
kimchiman1000 3 years ago
So, while I am against an NDP/Lib coalition, it isn't because it's 'against the law'. But it should be against the law, whether it's the Libs, NDP, Cons, or anyone else.
It seems to me that the only right and fair way to approach such things is to let US decide. I've heard quite a few large L Liberals on the radio in the past couple of days saying they will NEVER vote Liberal again because of this. I don't think they're saying it because of Dion, but because of the undemocratic principle of it

First, go back to your definition of socialism. You don't even know what socialism really is!! We are far from it, even Europe isn't close to it.
Then, in a perfect world, Alberta would build a wall around it's borders so the pollution created by oil sands stays within the province!!
LakeShadow 3 years ago
and not ship any oil to you, lakeshadow....if we build a wall, literally or politically, we'll cut off the pipeline to your gas tank and furnace.
BBTDB 3 years ago
Europe is just farther down that slippery slope, but we're on it as well.
Funny thing: I've met older people who left mainland China during Mao's reign of terror, to get away from its communism/socialism, to come to Canada for it's 'democracy', who have told me (with much displeasure) 'Canada is becoming a communist country!'
Granted, they probably meant 'socialist', but I think it says a lot about where we're headed when people from China say that.
Have you made a formal study of socialism?
kimchiman1000 3 years ago
This guy is a knob. Either it goes to a vote or Harper stays. Man, how did it come to this. The guy led the liberals to the lowest vote total in history, now he might be the next Prime Minister in the same year.... Jeebus.
PLCJockey 3 years ago 2

Well....in a perfect world...

i know he's making sense but i just cant look past the leader of my country not being able to communicate effectively in the worlds first language.
CrayPrince 3 years ago 2
For myself, I rather have a leader who isn't that able to communicate effectively in English then one who can easily f*ck you with is great talk. For me, the "worlds first language" should be COOPERATION.
tommyikare 3 years ago
Exactly. I'm tired of Dion being portrayed as a dumb frenchman. I find that when he speaks in french, he appears very intelligent. What I also like about him is that he's willing to be honest about taxes and what not instead of bullshiting people just to get elected.
ElectricPineapple79 3 years ago 2
i appreciate that hes a capable leader but as much as we wish to not be superficial, we have to admit that its a factor and all factors count, so when the leader of my country steps on the world stage and represents me, i dont want the world asking themselves if he is verbally challenged. and cooperation isnt a language, its someones attempt to discredit and ignore the obvious statement: his english is disgustingly poor.
CrayPrince 3 years ago 2
I wonder how many world leaders you have heard deliver speeches in English (when it is not their first language) to compare against. It sounds like a mistake to me to assume everyone on the international stage is a master of English, or that it is a requirement to have mastery over the language to govern a people. We have two national languages, he speaks both fluently, and one with mastery. That is more than can be said of our current PM. Please try to discard your personal bias.
dmcginn1982hotmail 3 years ago
other world leaders at least live in coutries where the PRIMARY language is NOT english. with all word spinning aside lets be real, we have 2 official languages but we have 1 PRIMARY. i want my leader to be a master of it and not have it be weakness which just undermines his message and renders it almost pointless as it falls on deaf ears. The general public is not as forgiving as those who CARE to decipher his charlie brown impression.
CrayPrince 3 years ago
No, Dion does not speak English fluently. He has a mastery of french, but only 22 per cent of Canada's population is francophone. Over seventy per cent is anglophone.
And honestly, Harper's french is better than most french people!

kimchiman1000 3 years ago
He's talking about investing in municipal governments with regards to what they already take responsibility for and for what those subsidiary governments do with budgeted money. We need a federal budget, not more federal control of those subsidiary governments. His proposal claims federal all responsibility at the municipal level and centralizes everything the federal government is not responsible for.
