I watched those short 1961 cartoons as a child. Always interested in seeing how many characters from the 2nd and later books show up. One seldom sees the wogglebug or Pollychrome nowadays much.
There was another animated version of Oz. It's an animated TV series from 1990. Mainly, it had the Wicked Witch resurrected. There was also a video game version based on the MGM Wizard Of Oz.
There was also a short lived series animated by Chuck Jones. He used to work for Looney Tunes. He then re-designed Tom and Jerry, did How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Horton Hears a Who for TV, and The Phantom Tollbooth.
An incredible idea for a documentary. Excellent Research, Fantastic subject matter, an overall great concept. My big beef is your sound. It's really really really lacking. You've spent hours recording distorted, low res, sound that probably wasn't done in proper khz. Please do some research on production practices and standards because I'd had to see a fantastic documentary like this ruined by a terrible quality product. Your opening credits also need a lot of work. Also get a different Narrator
Don't want to sound rude, but you seriously have no idea how this has been done. But anyways, I have a better video editor now, and plan to do a re-edit and re-dub of the whole series.
I can still tell the sound is lacking. I don't have to be a wonder wiz at filmmaking to know that. No one does. Sound editing has nothing to do with Video Editing.
A fire didn't close the Land of Oz...deterioration, smaller attendances, and different ownership closed it- money went into other venues. The fire was in 1975 ;-)
the Woggle-bug at 5:30 will keep me at night saying "Can't sleep. Professor Woggle-bug will eat me."

I never saw the 1969 film that was shown. Tales of the Wizard of Oz were so cute/funny!

The Oz film at 4:48 was made by an adult filmmaker!

Right. The new versions will have a completely different narrator and better recording.

Uh, it's "Rankin/Bass" that did the cartoon, not "Bankin/Rass." LOL!

The same people who did those wonderful Christmas specials and teamed with Richard Rich on The Swan Princess.

Didi I hear it wrong, or does the video say the copyright on the Wonderful Wizard of Oz expired in 1956?
Anyhow, I like that song toward the end from 5:11.
triassicranger 3 years ago
Yes, you heard right, and it is a fact.
RoyalKidofOz 3 years ago
OK, it's just that the video states the film came out the same year the copyright expired, but everywhere else says it came out in 1939.
triassicranger 3 years ago
No, the TV premiere was in 1956.

Oh, and sorry for the confusion.

Then it seems I was misinformed... Sometime I'm going to have to go through and re-edit all of these...
