Just got the Mackie mr5 mk2 and I have to say they are a steal for the price. Amazing monitors, much better than the krk rokit6. You have to listen to them and compare, you will hear the difference.
I own both the MR8s and the Rockit 8 (generation 2). The Mackies have to much bass which makes my mixes bass shy. Rockits have a much tighter bass. Better bass translation. If you want to listen to music then the Mackies are good. If you are mixing or doing some mastering then the Rockit 8s are the ticket.
I BOUGHT THE MACKIES A FEW DAYS AGO AND AS SOON AS I PLUGGED THEM ONE OF THEM HAD A LOUD BUZZING NOISE, WHICH AT THE TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL . THEN AFTER USING THEM IN MY HOME STUDIO FOR AROUND 4 HOURS STRAIGHT THEY BOUGH STARTED TO CRACKLE AND NOW THEY ARE COMPLETELY DISTORTED. USELESS FOR THE AMOUNT OF CASH I SPENT ON THEM . ALTHOUGH THEY SOUNDED AMAZING AT FIRST!!
i first bought a pair of m audio bx5a when i first started making beats using all Propellerhead. My bx5a 1 of my speakers were not working properly after awhile. I than invested in the Mackie MR5. We are in 2011 and they still rock. I have some beats that i uploaded to this site called Soundcloud. Type in Grown Men. You will see Grown Men Productions. Peace Propellerhead and my Mackie MR5 and my macbook do its job. I can't forget about my mpd 18 and my Oxygen maudio v2 15 keyboard. Enjoy peace!
@HybriiD122 Expensive? Dude thats fuckin cheap! Expensive is a pair of JBL LSR4328P Powered Monitors! 1,539.00 is alot more than something for 500 bucks.

For $300 to $500, for a PAIR of POWERED Mackies, you WON'T find a BETTER deal on a GOOD set of monitors....
In the same price range, KRK Rokit's are nice, but if you've ever heard them side by side with Mackie's, you'd KNOW the difference!

They're cheaper than previous models because they are made in China now. Also the VIFA waveguide has been replaced by cheap molded plastic.
