She wasn't very good as Homelessness Tsar...she's not very good at this. I'm afraid she neither has the intellect or imagination to fulfill this role. But she must be great at job interviews...
The problem is the system. You are less likely to be a victim if you have the ability to take action. The police are no ones friend they are paid to build a case against you and help put you in jail. The police only respond to crime. They cant prevent crime. Carring a gun or having a meaning of difference and the abitity to take action against crime is more effictive than any police system. There is no justice in the system both sides become a victim
40 minutes of idle talk. She just doesn't get what "criminal justice" is for (if it is for anything at all). And she does very bad to true victims. (Like all lawyers do who take victims trough the joint plaintiff mess.)
The "Eye for an Eye" justice wasn't meant for the victim to seek revenge, it was a way to say that unless the perpertrator compensated the victim until the victim was satisfied. If the victim wasn't happy with the compsensation, revenge could be had.
It was just another way of saying that the victim and not some arbitrary judge decided the amount of the damages.
William Ian Miller explains about "lex talionis" at length in his book "Eye for an Eye".
The answer is private law, adjudication, restitution.
So long as govt runs "criminal" justice, only the criminals will get justice. The victims will just end up paying twice, once by the criminal, then by the tax collector.
This must be the case. The victim should be taken into consideration throughout the search for justice.
