  • really super........this is the magic of the karnatic music.

    i love this .....

  • ragam naata, it is aadi thalam and not eka thalam. speciality of this kriti is that the kriti itself says it is in Naata ragam and Aadi thalam.... the line goes thus: maha kavya NAATA KADI priyam....

  • ragam naata, it is aadi thalam and not eka thalam

  • what type of music is this? like what is the genre?

  • @swrb6 Karnatik or Carnatic music is the genre. The classical music style in South India (songs are sung in several different South Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, etc. and Sanskrit).

  • It is Athari raagam and adi thalam

  • good song

  • super singing! hats off to Yesudas!

  • I have learnt this song from 2 different teachers - one with eka thalam and one with adi thalam so it looks like both work. The name Karnatic has nothing to do with Purandara dasa or Karnataka State.

  • Yes, this is a Muthuswami Dikshithar composition of NATTAI Raag, sung very

professionally fine tuned by my very dearest KJY, but the beauty is, NO mrudangam

has been used while the music was composed for the movie Sindhu Bairavi by

    Ilayaraja.

  • coiuld you send this song to me.. jawnuu@aol.com

  • could u send this song to me... jawnuu@aol.com

  • u got 60000 now lol

  • wow super singing hats off to yesudas

  • wow really susperb singing

  • its adi raagam

  • Maha ganapathim -natta raagam

  • A close equivalent (not exact) in the Hindustani system is the raga Jog. The pancharatna keerthana of Thyagaraja "Jagadhanandha karaka" is also in Nattai. Formally, a janya of # 36 Challanattai in the 72 melakartha system.

  • It is Muttuswamy Dikshitar composer for sure. Guru Guha Nutam

  • It's Raga Ganbherra Nattai, Adi Tala

  • This is Raaga Nattai in Carnatic music, I believe in Adi Taalam

  • Raagam: Naatai

    Thalam : Ekam

    Composer: Muttuswamy Dikshitar

@soni99su it is not purandar daasa bcuz it has " guruguha" and that means it is dikshitar

  • Comment removed

  • @TigerLover98 : I didn't comment on raga or thala or who composed this particular song. didn't mention that this song was composed by Purandaradaasa!! I was just explaining in general why this style of music is called Karnatic. Peace!!

  • Oh my Lord, Remover of All Obstacles, remove all obstacles that obstruct the path of enlightenment so that I may properly engage in the path that leads to you.

  • This is wonderful audio quality! I love it!

  • This evergreen opening song of prayer to GANESHA was composed by Muthuswamy Dikshithar in the NATTAI raga, and set for ADI thalam. The song was also used in the famous Tamil movie SINDHU BHAIRAVI, which was a big hit . Enjoy

  • Ragam: Nattai

    Thalam: Eka

    Composer: Muthuswamy Dikshitar

    Singer: Yesudas

  • ragam nata, i think it's adi talam not sure lol:P

need to play this for grade 6...

  • Naata raagam ,

  • Wonderful piece of everlasting music from both Isaignani Ilayaraja and Ganagandharvan Dr.K.J.Yesudoss!

  • isn't this roopaka taala ?!

  • ragam : Natai Thalam Adi

composed by Muthuswami Dhekisthar (pure tamil brahmin guy) born near mayiladuthurai

one of the legand from southindia

  • it is nattai raga

  • adi talam

  • This song is sung by Dr.Yasudas!!!

    evertime green!!

  • Who is the singer plz?

  • Raagam is naatai ; thAlam is eka thAlam. I have seen many write it is aadi thalam. Maybe someone can clarify on the thaalam.

  • @revs321b Its aadi thaalam

  • ok im just happy 12 thousand ppl viewed my channel! wohoo!

  • almost 17K now :)

    great job..

  • :D :D

  • 80.5K and still going

  • Give ppl their due credit. I feel ppl during purandaradasa had great work ethics and respected others creation.

My salutations to "Daasa Shresta" Purandara bcos he was an innovator. It is much easy to improvise. As per my knowledge, none of the dasas have praised any language or culture. They dedicate their life for praising lord!!!

  • unfortunately original works of kannada or telugu might have been lost.Atleast tamil is lucky to be preserved.

Before 2500 years i dont think the south india was divided as we see now , but a united civlization called as dravidian civilization with rich cultural identity

  • There is a big doubt about dravidianism let alone be a civilization..anyways this was a forced view by experts in sanskrit from germany ..ofcourse it was racially motivated and aryans were northern indians and this was a forced conclusion..there is no trace of genetic or either factual sites for war or any natural calamity for this theory ..sad people like pariyyar used to make it as an anti brahmin sentiment to win TN from that time govrner rajaji..nothing more to it ....

  • @submarine00 well said.

  • example for reference in tamil is "aazhvar pasuram"

    pa --padal

    suram --element of a music

Try to learn and respect your own language and then other languages.Any language is great all has its own beauty

If language is lost the civilization is lost.

  • Btw it is pathetic to see the other southindian counterparts tend to disgrace tamil and celeberating sanskrit..

swaravali itself is a combination of sanskrit and tamil or pure tamil

Swaram tamil or sanskrit--the smallest element of musical sound

Vali in Tamil ---Wind Example (sooravali --Whirling wind or strom)

so swaravali means "musical wind" ..(hope all knows that there is no sound without air)

swaram is known as suram in tamil. Not sure if sanskrit loaned from tamil or the other way.

  • Moreover there are many saints who have preceeded puratharadasar example arunagirinathar who wrote the complex patterns of tirupugazh

was said to preceed atleast by 100 years older than purantharadasar.

Purantharadasar should be not forgotten because the modern trinity (thayagarajar, muthusamy, sama) is currently more popular (only 300 years old)

(some even think carnatic music is soley found by these 3 saints :) )

  • Prundaradasa --was the reason for the present order of music lessons.

the order of swaravali varisai ,janta varisai ,thattu varisai

he is one who kept mayamalavagowla ragam as standard for all these lessons.

But the southindian music itself was already there 100s of years before.

  • This is from the movie sindhu bhairavi

    music illayaraja

The theme is that the mirudangam -percussion instrumentist will come drunk to the concert..So the vocalist will ask him to get out.

Turning to the audience vocalist say to the audience that this concert will go without aid of talam.

You could notice there NO talam in this song

    vocalist --sivakumar

drunk mirundaga vidwan is deli ganesh

  • the ragam of this song is natai, the same as thyagaraja's first pancharatna kriti jagananda karaka....and the talam is adi. :):):):)

  • hi i am selva i think this song raaga is boopalam its morning sunrise time ragam i dont know abt the thalam

  • Because Purandara dasa is the founder of karnatic music and he was from karnataka.

  • why is it called karnatik and not tamilian or ny othr southern? pl. tell me.

  • im no meastro but i guess because of its strict adherence towards the Raagas n swaras of Karnactic(classical) indian music. and its a mix...98% of is in sanskrit anyway.

  • "Sangeetha pithamaha" Purandaradasa, father of southern classical music was from karnataka and most of his composition is in kannada. May be that is the reason...

  • thanks for info...despite having interest in karnatic music...i have no idea how da system works :(

  • @soni99su

it is in sanskrit composed by muthuswamy dikshithar in nattai raga to eka tala

  • @nkm48 I am well aware this is a sanskrit song. I didn't mention that this song was composed by Purandaradaasa!! I was just trying to explain why this style of music is called "Karnatic". It is my interpretation..

  • Carnatic - Carna/Karna means 'Ear'. It has nothing to do with Karnataka. All it means is 'Suitable to hear (or) for Ear'.

  • @soni99su ... no thats not the reason ... karnataka sangeetham is derived from the root word "karnam" which means "ear" in sanskrit ... ergo, it is music that is pleasing/soothing to the ear ...

  • @soni99su ... no thats not the reason y ... karnataka sangeetham is derived from the root word "karnam" which means "ear" in sanskrit ... ergo, it is music that is pleasing to the ear ...

  • nopes not the reason y ...

  • @moonmusicnartan carnatic is the state of karnataka, tamilnadu & hyderabad the 3 states which founded this classical music. It was called so durin the British Era

  • @moonmusicnartan see wiki for carnatic region :)

  • @moonmusicnartan Karnatik music was orignally all over India, but when the Persians invaded many centuries ago they also brought their musical instruments and influence. This lead to the separation in Indian music creating Hindustani (known as North Indian) and Karnatik remained in South India, Karnatik reflects many languages in South India as well as a specific style of Indian classical music. The style is all throughout South India, so it brings all of the South Indian languages together.

  • Actually it is not KARNATIC , it is actually KARNATA music . In KARNA means Ears ATA means pleasantness that means music that gives pleasant feeling to Ears called by KARANTA music not KARANATAKA music. This music belongs entire South INDIA. Please Don't misunderstand.

  • @moonmusicnartan ... karnataka sangitam has got nothing to do with the state of karnataka ... karnam in sanskrit means ear ... ergo, karnataka sangitam is music that is pleasant to the ear ...

  • @moonmusicnartan

Indian Classical Music is divided into 2 parts

    1. North Indian Classical

    2. South Indian Classical (Carnatic)

South Indian Classical can be in any Language

  • thanks thanks..........love this
