  • Great! thanks. When I got the GI bring back and saw those little screws on the trigger guard I thought it was due to damage. Nice to know it is part of the rifle. And pliers w/o felt in between will scratch the wood for sure.

  • i like the way the bold dissassembles on that the mosin nagant m91/30 is a bitch to get the rifeing pin out. but i like it because its long and im 6 ft 3 and BELIEVE ME this is the only rifle i feel proportionate to

  • can annyone tell me what time m rifle would have been made

    its a k98 with serial num. 27034

    thnx

  • Using a set of Dikes to compress spring is a bad idea. Did u hear the scraping? OUCH!!! Also, put a piece of Scotch tape on the screwdriver to prevent unneccessary scratching

  • "alright"

  • just bought a 1940 K98 in NZ. sadly a russian capture so mismatching and missing the cleaning rod. cheers on the video. whereabouts in NZ you live?

  • @nick21sammy Hi Nick mine was a Russian capture also but i managed to get a cleaning rod, sling and bayonet..... i live in Australia now but i'm from the far north

  • @kiwiwoolf i live in Kerikeri. i noticed :) your also missing the cleaning rod

  • @nick21sammy my family is from Mangonui....... i made this video before i got the cleaning rod....... what is the year and manufacture code on your mauser?

  • @kiwiwoolf year is 1940 and manufacturing code is: 40 RU 169

  • @kiwiwoolf sorry i mean manufacturing code: 337, so it was produced at the wilhelm gustloff werke

  • Um I have a question why are ppl with mike as there name so god dam gay. Plus I'm having sex with ur sister

  • orrite vid

  • ive dug up an old k98 mauser from a battlefield an this worked perfect. thank you

  • this video is " Alright " is that Alright to say? Alright im done with this comment. Alright?

  • Great video but please god stop saying all right

  • Interesting + classic gun + NOT overexplaining steps = an Excellent gun disassembly video!!!

  • Awesome job man

  • you can reload without touching the bolt on a Krag-jorgensen, springfield 1903, k98 mauser and krag is my three favourite bolt action rifles

  • @MrRanger654 must say i have never used one.

  • can you buy a live firing k98 in the uk

  • @WW2AirSofters i dont live in the UK but from what research i have done i think it is possible.

You need to get a licence and you need a reason to get the licence i.e deer stalking or sports shooting.

Then you would need to find a K98 in the UK. Because the gun laws have been so tuff for so long i dont know how many K98's would be in the UK. But like i said im not sure as i am on the other side of the world but i hope this helps.

  • This gun was manufactured by Czech republic - Ceska zbrojovka.

  • @Pekosar it's a vz 24?

  • @Diegorg2 No it's an S/42

  • @Diegorg2 vz=in czech language vzor, it is type. VZ24 was manufactured by CZ and I think, that KAR98K was manufactured by CZ.

  • @Pekosar like i said the factory code is S/42 how about you do some research and find out what factory made rifles with that code.

  • @Pekosar this rifle was made in Oberndorf, Germany in 1937

  • alright? hehe

  • great vid on disassembly. Thanks

  • ماقصرت good

  • Just the field-stripping tutorial I was looking for... Thanks! Good to know the Mauser is collected down under too

  • cant get my bolt out, my lever want go down

  • @bulldogrj5020 Need more info mate. Can you pull the bolt all the way back or is it stuck in the receiver?

  • @kiwiwoolf never mind i got it, something was blocking the lever

  • cracker of a vid mate, just what i was looking for. straight to the point. with the added bonus of making my 8yo son piss himself laughing, every time he heard you say "aight" haah love it mate, aussie as.

  • @mistajace Thanks mate glad it helped.......... That "aight" always comes back to bite me and I never say aight lol

  • I just bought a mauser and when i went to disassemble it i found that the front barrel sleeve is stuck, or really damn hard to get off. Any suggestions on how to get it loose enough to get it off.

  • @crisandm1016 Im guessing it has never been disassembled. It was probably a tight fit on the timber so the had to use a hammer to get it on. It will be tricky to get it off but I suggest you compress that front spring and try use a hammer to get it off. Without damaging the timber. Good luck I hope that helps.

  • @kiwiwoolf WOW. It worked, knicked the wood just a bit, but it isn't that noticable. Thank you.

  • @crisandm1016 Haha that was quick...... I was kinda guessing lol

  • im def keeping this vid

  • Popsicle. When you dissassembled the bolt did you make sure the safety was in the upward facing position??? If not, thats your issue.

Kiwiwolf, question. Odd question. I have a 1945 spanish mauser. When the bolt is pulled back all the way, it moves side to side a bit. Is that normal or should hte bolt be solid when its pulled back all the way?

  • @Lyrikz74 That is normal the bolt on my rifle does the same thing. Nothing to worry about

  • recuerdo cuando desarme un fusil de este tipo en el servicio militar, es muy sencillo, pero de que los hay, los hay, y varios ni con varias explicaciones pudieron

  • Great video. AIGHT :D

  • @veggpapp haha now you made me listen for the AIGHT xD

  • @Cetreum Lol only just realized how many times I say AIGHT........ FAIL

  • Wow that is the best looking mauser on youtube! Glad to see you kept the bluing on.

  • Great vid...I really love the detailed camera work, helps "visual" guys like me a lot...

  • Germans did a good job I can say that for sure.

  • thanks for taking the time to post this video. very helpful.

  • That's one beautiful rifle. Hitler knew what the good stuff was.

  • nice video man

  • When i disassembled the bolt and then put it back into the rifle then dry fired it the bolt and safety got suck and can not be moved. Do you have any idea on what i can do about it?

  • @Popsicle22754 that is strange i have never come across that problem before.

If you remove the bolt is the pin sticking out of the bolt housing?

Or try disassembling the bolt again if possible.

  • @kiwiwoolf Well problem is the bolt can not moved AT ALL and its stuck in the reciever an no operation can be done to the rifle AT all.

  • @Popsicle22754 That does not sound good sry mate I don't think I can help you it's beyond me...... I suggest you take it to a gun smith

  • @Popsicle22754 have you figured it out. I think it's an easy fix if you fiddle with it (ie. hold the trigger in while trying to remove bolt, safety, etc).

  • @123sdflkjasdfklj1231 I figured it out. I didnt reset the firing pin in the bolt before putting it back in and dry firing it to test the function. I had to take apart the entire rifle an taking the entire trigger group and manualy reseting the bolt. It was a real bitch.

  • @Popsicle22754 glad to hear you figured it out. I will keep that in mind next time I mess around with my gun.

  • Nice Mauser, great video. Thx ;D

  • you do not need to spin the cocking sleeve to get it off. a quarter turn suffices

  • did u refurbish the stock?

  • @USMCM249gunner yeh i just used a light sand paper and a razor blade to shave off the old finish

  • @kiwiwoolf

that looks beautiful dude, did u re-coat it with something?

You're giving me the confidence to try this

the metal parts also look reblued.

  • @USMCM249gunner.... no i did not re-coat the stock. Because the old finish was so thick when i shaved it off the oil from the old finish keeps seeping through the wood giving it a nice finish. I was thinking about getiing a Matt finish varnish just to give it a good seal but i like the way it looks now.

Yeh i believe the metal has been reblued this K98 is a russian capture so after the war they reblued all the old german rifles and it has been sitting in storage ever since.

  • @kiwiwoolf

how protected do you think the stock is now

  • @Sturmmann It will be fine as long as I don't use it in the rain lol. I only really use it at my local range which is under cover

  • The Bluing on your rifle is perfect. Did it come that way or did you do it yourself?

  • @something01992 it came that way

  • Thanks, also would a later stock be changeable with a new one?

  • @hellsnightmare yeh i dont see y not as long as it is a K98 stock it should fit perfect.

  • What kind of pliers did you use to take off the spring?

  • @hellsnightmare They are flat glass pliers. But u can use any pliers just use a cloth between the pliers and the timber so u don't mark it.

  • my saftey is jammed but it's been assembled properly, (the gun works perfectly accept for my saftey) any ideas or solutions would be appreciated

    thanks!

  • @speedyninjafrazer Is your safety stuck in the vertical position?

  • Great video. Thank you for posting!

  • Where did you buy that Kar98k?

  • @bajsfiskaren my local gun shop imported 20 from russia so i bought one

  • Thats a nice stock you have on there, what wood is it?

  • @TaZ101SAGA its just a laminated timber i have removed the original finish

  • i was reassebleing my bolt and managed to put it saftey in the off position and now its locked up and i cant get it off any advice?

  • @heinswr yeh i have had this problem before i will try to explain... what you have done is released the spring....if you watch my video and stop it at 0:40 now at the bottom of the bolt on the left hand side there are two lugs....now if you were to put a coin in a vice and put it behind the second lug from the bottom and grab the bolt housing and pull with both hands you should feel the spring starting to compress compress....pull as far as you can and twist to your right.

  • @kiwiwoolf yeah i got it man, it was a bitch to do. but thanks alot for your help

  • @heinswr i bet you wont make the same mistake again.....i know i lernt my lesson

  • @kiwiwoolf haha yeah that was a pain a good learning lesson though

  • @heinswr if this doesnt help let me know and i will make a video on how to fix this

  • Hey man this video helped me out a LOT, thanks.

  • Great video!

  • wow nice stock dude

  • ty for this vid just got today need to take it apart and clean it real well

  • Where did you get your K98?

  • From my local gun shop they imported it from russia

  • Wow...easy as pie, makes the Enfield and Mosin look "complicated"...those damn clever Huns...5 star vid, man, love it.

  • thanks for the comment mate

  • the mosin nagant is the easiest to be stripped apart, especially the bolt.

  • why did the second sleeve slide out so easily?

  • because the spring that holds the first sleeve on is also holding the second sleeve in posistion. so when you remove the spring it just simply slides off.

  • Thank you for a most informative video.

  • Could someone tell me how, in this bolt design, the extractor stays in the same positions when the bolt is rotated in/out of the chamber? I thought that, because the extractor is attached to the bolt, it would also pivot. I wouldn't think the extractor is snap-on... I hope this question is clear enough.

  • sry not sure i understand the question

  • @kiwiwoolf Ok let's say at around 0:28 you rotate the bolt so you can begin showing us disassembly. The extractor doesn't move -- the bolt is rotating, but the extractor stays in the same position. Or, in other words, when you chamber a round, the extractor is always on the right side of the gun/bolt (from the perpective of the buttplate). How is done? Why doesn't the extractor move along with the bolt?

  • ok the extractor does rotate but it rotates on the bolt housing. it stays on the right side because when the bolt is in the rifle it is held in the same place by a grove in the rifle. so when the u chamber a round or extract a round the extractor does change position on the bolt but always stays on the right hand side of the rifle.

Lol this is ver hard to explain i can post a short vid on the functions of the bolt or if u private msg me and u have msn i am more than happy to web cam and show u

  • @kiwiwoolf Ah yes I thought so! I do not have MSN -- a video would still be helpful, regardless. Would it be any inconvenience to you to make one? I'm in no rush.

  • yeh ill make a video when i get a chance

  • @kiwiwoolf Thanks a shit ton.

  • I have a vid on that go to my Channel, it's a new vid called Mauser questions.

  • Thanks kiwi - great video! I just got my first Mauser, a Yugo M-48.

  • What have you done with its surface? mine is a bit rusty and mh i dont know^^

  • if you are talking about the timber i used a razor blade and scraped all the varnish off.

As for the steel i have done nothing with it it was in great condition when i bought it no rust at all.

  • nice, i was talking abount the steel ;).

    really great condition!

  • yeh its a russian capture hasnt seen the light of day since end of WW2 when i got it it was filled with grease had to learn how to pull it apart to clean it. I got it shiped from russia to australia.

  • nice, thx,it s obendorf mauser?

  • yeh factory marking S/42 which is obendorf
