The real problem here is how the California state government allocates funds on projects like this. They'll come up with an idea like a tax on tanning or cigarettes or something and say all the money from it goes to building a new school. The voters pass it and then it make $570 million dollars, but the way they wrote the law, all of that money can only be allocated to building a school, nothing else. My home town in Oregon had a similar issue (not $570 mil, but still).
it is alot, but its 6 schools, not just one, plus all the stuff they have. performing arts center, a movie theater, gym, community center,olymipic pool. yea its alot.

when school systems build schools, they only tell how much it cost to build the actual school, not the equipment inside. If a high school has all brand new stuff inside, thats about 20 -40 million dollars, not just the 8 million for the building.

You are again WRONG. Only a fraction of this was payed for by the State Of California. Most of it came from private funding. That high school project was a way to introduce future schools into America, like the ones Europe, Asia, and Australia has. Maybe they have them because those countries don't spend millions on wars that can never be won!

@staponsa1 Europe isn't "cutting spending like crazy". They are actually finding ways to balance the budget so they don't have to cut. And those countries follow a socialist system, which actually works well. It's just people in the US get angry when they hear the word Socialist or "Communist" and hate it on the start. If Obama can actually implement a Socialist system in the US (like say Canada), then things can work out well. Basic heath care would be free, some universities would be free, etc

The real problem here is how the California state government allocates funds on projects like this. They'll come up with an idea like a tax on tanning or cigarettes or something and say all the money from it goes to building a new school. The voters pass it and then it make $570 million dollars, but the way they wrote the law, all of that money can only be allocated to building a school, nothing else. My home town in Oregon had a similar issue (not $570 mil, but still).

when school systems build schools, they only tell how much it cost to build the actual school, not the equipment inside. If a high school has all brand new stuff inside, thats about 20 -40 million dollars, not just the 8 million for the building.

Well I hope they enjoy all of that, because the High School that I just graduated from is falling apart, and was built in the 40's, with no upgrades since about the 70's... Too small, too old, too small town I guess..
Oh I almost forgot, we almost died last winter when we got 3 feet of snow build-up on the roof and it caved in during class hours...
