@MrSciencetificsasuke They were found at electronics surplus stores, swap meets, USAF surplus, etc. We are located near Wright-Patterson AFB and there is plenty of cast-off.
I do have a k-band assembly that has a Varian M-235 device together with a BOMAC BL540 in a complicated waveguide but I have no idea what it is. I wonder if someone can help me!
Klystrons are smaller than i thought, do they have they same level of power consumption as a magnetron, although the magnetron looks big but thats largely a heat sink that surrounds the main bit inside, i think. nice collection
Klystrons come in all different sizes and power ratings. Many of the smaller ones shown here are rated in the vicinity of 1W, while the VA-806F is rated at 2kW, about double the power of a typical microwave oven. There are klystrons that are much larger than the VA-806F though, such as those used in high power broadcast and various particle accelerators.
you have a beautiful beautiful collection!!! i am so fucking jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like part of a microwave transmit/receive assembly. The BL540 is probably a Co60-doped TR cell.

I read a book that mentioned a klystron tube and I was curious about what it looked like. Nice vid!
