Languy, your final comments regarding MSE hit the nail right on the head. Purely signature based detection is literally 5 years behind the times with regards to where the rest of the anti-malware industry is at. The additional nail in the coffin for the present incarnation of MSE is that it is unbelievably slow.

I miss the old days when malware testing had interesting fake avs(antiviruses) and was free of adult content also I miss when it was possible to make an infected virtual machine without every virus doing it's best to make it unusable. Thumbs up for every body to read Ah good old memories.

Hi LanGuy. Microsoft Security Essentials offers the Network Inspection System on Windows Vista/7 systems, as well as the Dynamic Signature Service with behavior monitoring, AND the SpyNet/Active Protection. Their used to be settings to turn some of those things on and off but they unfortunately removed them in this beta probably for simplicity.

@JackPlatt from what Ive read, its either going to be MSE or the commercial version which may be embedded into Windows 8. I do find 1 update per 24hours is enough.

Do you think that Windows 8, with its built in AV, when released, will just be an extension of MSE? Only one update every 24 hours is just not enough. That is why I switched to Avast.
