I respect Kirk Douglas very mich, but it is easy to sit on top of the economic ladder, look down on everyone and be benevolent. An apology is one thing-
there are too many foolish people asking for reparations. In today's America, the federal government has seen it to bend over backwards to make sure that everyone gets a fair chance. That should be the reward.
It's time to recognize that you don't do retribution against people who are not at fault.
Mr. Douglas is cute and all but a simple apology just won't do it. Perhaps reparations would be better. This country has made a whole lotta money off the backs of slaves and their descendants. The money should not be put into the hands of black individuals but put into the communities and schools where blacks are the majority. In most if not all major cities across the U.S. we see where one (white)section of town is being kept up and the other (black section) is left to be remained "jacked up".
so an apology for black people only?or an apology for all slavery?slaves were also white,brown and yellow,slaves existed in all parts of the world that's a fact!. n fact African warlords traded black slaves for guns!.St Patrick for example was born in ENGLAND and was kidnapped and made a slave!in Ireland.(he was white)so why should white people apologise for something that was done by all races to all races?,no Mr Douglas read your history,sorry your wrong.
There is a reason that American slavery was called a peculiar institution, because American slavery was unlike any other form of slavery that existed in the world. Slavery in America was about the total denigration of an entire race of people it wasn't like that worldwide, hell in many parts of the world some slaves were second in command to their masters, you were able to earn your freedom from slavery, however here slave was a lifetime status
Bless his heart

@rockcityaudio Sorry you're* wrong.
Before you correct someone, reduce grammatical
errors; it invalidates the point you're trying to make.
That's beside the issue though. Mr. Douglas witnessed the peak of human and civil rights
activism in the 60s. That's what he was referring to. You're going off on a tangent
to correct him. But for what reason exactly? He never mentioned "white people" having to
apologize, though I understand you think it was insinuated.
Sorry rockcityaudio you are foolish.
