  • Hello, my printer is connected to my desktop computer which is running Windows XP and I want to print from my Windows 7 laptop. My printer is already set up to share, but when I go to set it up my laptop doesn't find my printer to connect to. Please help...thank you!

  • I get an error messsage"windows cannot connect to this printer, access is denied". I might add, I am the network administrator. Can you help?

  • @summerproject92 Hi there, ah.. a couple of thing you can try.

1st make sure you have an administrator account and a password set up for both machines.

Another thing is disable the user account control (if windows 7) do the processes again and than re enable it after you have done.

    That normally works for me.

Sometimes it could be your anti-virus software blocking network access, you may have to disable your anti-virus temporarily, and re enable it when your done.

    Hope this helped.

    Nice one ; )

  • my printer is installed on window 7 and i want to share it to XP..the procedure will be same or i have to do something else..

  • \\office.\office - you typed wrong. It must be \\office\ - comp ll find network printer and u can select on of finded printer manually...thanks

  • I have a question. We have 3 computers, 2 with XP and one with Win 7. One of the XP's has 2 printers connected to it. The other XP is a laptop and they work fine so far. However, the newest computer with Win 7 (also laptop) can see the printers (after following your awesome instructions) but It can not add them. It prompts that it has no access or athority or something like that.

Does the Win 7 computer need to be a part tp the same workgroup or just connected to the network? whats wrong?

  • at 5:06

i dont see a list of printers on my computer.

i only see 'Microsoft Windows Network'

do you know how i can get to see my list ?

  • @rockstar7600 AH now that's the only problem with printer shearing with different OS's, is compatibly problems.

But still try it, because my brother DCP-115c isn't compatible with windows 7, but that still works fine.

  • Very useful video. but I was looking for the inverse way... to share a printer installed in windows 7 machine with a windows xp machine :D

  • not sure if it a VISTA problem, or a network setup issue, but I have a Printer setup at work on an XP machine and it successfully shares it's printer with another XP machine. My Vista machine will not recognize any of the XP machines on the Workgroup. Any Ideas?

  • actually in my case my printer is attached to windows 7 PC and I need to get the print from my windows XP laptop... I made it share in win 7 pc but still I can not added it to my win xp laptop :( its great if you could help me. thank you very much

  • Thanks for the video. Tried many times before and gave up, but having watched your video, I have *finally* managed to do it and it works perfectly. (Printer connected to an XP machine, and can print now on that printer from my Wireless Windows 7 Laptop, so now don't have to faff about plugging my laptop in to the printer whenever I want to print something. Many thanks! Cheers :)

  • more thanks to you. . how nice its very helpful

  • Hello dear buddy!

    how's it going?

well, I am so sad to say that my laptop win7 running couldn't find the printer shared on winxp pc. so could it possibly be from the local LAN set up? the 2 computers couldn't even see each other

  • JUST GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT!!!!!

  • how would you do it when u have to install the driver manually

  • was your printer on the xp machine or the win 7 machine? I have a wireless network with the 7 machine connected to the printer. The xp machine is wireless. I have done the same procedures as you described but have not had success printing from the xp machine. The 7 machine shows my documents to print in the printer queue but the status of those documents is "deleting - sent to printer" yet nothing ever prints. Have any ideas? Thanks for your video.

  • Hi, I have a local canon MF3110 printer is connected to a Windows 7 PC and set it to enable sharing. However, when I try to access the printer from my laptop on Windows XP on the same network, it does not detect my network.

  • Man. I have tried for years to get my XP computer with the printer to communicate with my Vista and now, 7. Like, the house computer sees my network and all my computers but no computer sees this printer. It used to when I first hooked my XBox up and then I got new router. Now--and for the past 2 years--no computer sees this printer any longer and it used to. I am SO frustrated and I did all these things and no one on earth knows why this printer, despite it being shared, just don't work.

  • Once you set up your attached computer with sharing, does it always have the hand underneath the computer? I followed the procedures but the hand didn't show. I tried to connect my other computer to my attached one and it can't seem to find it. I guess I'm having problems getting my attached computer to share. I'd appreciate any suggestions that you might have. Thank you.

  • Thanks dear for sharing such a nice information..

  • man thank you so much for the working great tutorial ;)

  • Hey buddy, your video was very well done. I followed your steps,

I still have a problem: My printer is connected to PC running WinXP. I setup network with PC running Win7. We share files ok, but i am still having trouble with the printer. It "doesn't find the drivers". And I don't know how to find (browse) the drivers manually. The printer, by the way, is a Canon PIXMA ip1600. You don't have to post another video just for this, but if You could give me some light...Thanks

  • I have a printer attached to a Windows XP machine, and I want to share it with various other computers, including Vista, Windows 7 and Linux. Windows 7 chokes on it because it has no driver. How do I share the WinXP printer as a virtual printer that doesn't require non-existent Win7 drivers? For instance, can I make my XP printer look like a postscript printer and share it over the network?

  • hello, james.

I want to ask some question to sharing printer from windows seven to windows xp.

I can't print it. I don't know why. I follow your guide from beginning to the end, but i can't print my document. I use windows xp in virtual. I use Microsoft virtual pc 2007 software.

    Please, help me, James.

    Thanks.

  • Can someone help me with this? I just installed a printer with wifi and I am trying to share it with other pc's. One of the requirements is obviously enabling file and printer sharing in Windows 7. I open the network and sharing center, and choose " change advanced sharing settings". Here i mark "turn on file and printer sharing" I save the changes(I'm admin) But when i check the settings again, the setting i changed is not applied! That's a bit weird isn't it? Can anybody help me with this?

  • My problem is the exact opposite. The printers are connected to the Win 7 machine and the laptops are running XP. The shared printers show up fine on the XP machines but when I click print nothing happens. I have tried everything. So far I am far from impressed with 7 - I have had nothing but trouble since day 1.

  • Hey... Thanks for the video it helped a lot; however, when I try to print something everything comes up fine... I open the printer and it says spooling, then printing, and then deleting..... And does not print anything...

Is there anything I could do?

  • hello can i ask how to network xp and 7 using crossover networking, thanks for the help.

  • great man you solved my biggest problem

  • hello, Thanks for the vid!

I found out that you get the error when you include the "period" at the end of the server's name. So, in this case, the it should be "\\office\office" instead of "\\office.\office"

I've got a couple of questions.

    1. Does the server's computer have to be always turned on if I want to use the printer that is attacted to it from another computer?

    2. Can you go about doing file sharing between windows xp's and 7's?

I have just setup network printer now.

The computer that have the printer connected had "Windows xp home edition 32bit".

And the computer i added the printer to running "Windows 7 ultimate 64bit danish".

  • Does your printer have to be network capatable?

  • @sccerstr09 No. As long as it's connected to the Windows XP machine by any method, then you can share it through the Windows XP machine itself. Networking capability not required of the printer in this situation.

  • Never fails to help me. Second time around !!! Thanks heaps, bro!

  • oh never mind, i got it. But when i connect it, it says this, windows cannot connect to the printer

  • i'm on a windows 7 laptop and it wont find the printer at 8:09. The printer is connected to my xp desktop. I think the problem is I am using a wired printer, but is there a way to make my wired printer, wireless ?

  • @ramircutuday hi there, thank you for your comment. year the only problem with windows 7 is drivers at the moment. and it seems to be especially with printers and scanners, sometimes manually installing the driver helps, sometimes XP drivers work fine with windows 7, and vista drivers also work with windows 7. what printer have you got? ill see if i can track down a driver.

  • thans big help, exept it cant find the driver :S

  • Brilliant! Thanks a lot. Even a fool like me could do it after watching your video.

  • Comment removed

  • what if windows 7 can not find the driver? This is the problem i am getting.

  • same here

  • ah yes windows 7 does seem to have a bit of an issue with drivers at the moment especially with printers, i'v had the same problem with my lexmark printer.

what i did was to Google the printer make and model followed by windows 7 driver. download a driver and install it on the 7 machine and when you install the printer it should sauce the driver locally rather than over the network. i tried it and it worked for me, so try that.

hope this helped and thanks for your comment.

    nice one!!! : )

  • Hello, your video was great but I am having problems printing on a network when windows 7 has the brother 5240 hl installed and the other printers on my network can not print to the brother. I have set it up before, it works and once the windows 7 computer reboots it stops working. can you help with this? also do you know to set it up with terminal server, that is another problem. any help would be great.

  • great vid, was looking for something like this, I have a desktop pc with windows xp and a laptop pc with windows 7, and I set it up to printer share like in the vid, but for some reason when I try to print from my laptop with windows 7, on my xp pc, my internet security on there blocks my laptop from connecting to my printer attached to my desktop, and says a network virus has been blocked, and I have no idea how to stop it from doing that =(

  • ah yes!!!!!!! finally. iv been looking for a video like this the other ones i saw on YT are bollocks. thank you now i dont have to keep dragging my printer down stairs just to use it...

thanks man keep up the good work...

  • 09:38 - Dead Xbox three-shit-see, or Mac Mini? haha

  • @MokrieyDela i dont quite understand where the mac mini comes into it but if your talking about a mac mini that looks like a 360 FUCK YEAH! id buy one.

i love mac but i dont like how they look so cold and industrial metal but i like macs my dad got one and its wicked fast reliable you never get a virus or spyware no need to pay for shitty antivirus programs that just fuck your computer up and slow it down unlike shitty windows.

  • p.s i agree Xbox three-shit-see mines been sent back 4 times now and the 3rd time i got a 2005 launch one back WTF!!!!!!!!

  • Viperfrank built himself a Mac mini inside an Xbox 360 Case, no doubt using one of the many dead xboxs' cases as a doner :P Was kind of an inside joke i guess :P

I'd love a mac! Sick of my xbox dying, and its only gone twice!
