  • Woooah, what a man!!! I just love me some Tom Jones and this is classic Tom Jones! He had great moves and made it all look so easy. He seemed to be enjoying every minute of it!

  • Where did they get the audience from? Madame T

    ussaud's ?!!

  • yeah, the crowd are so rocking

  • That audience looks soooo bored!

  • This is just so wrong!

  • I preffer Elvis' version from the same year by miles! ;D

  • tom Jones face look different he face is so old now i cant believe he still 71 year old we just saw at newmarket

  • If you dislike this you are dead inside !

  • So fucking cool.

  • I'd like to thank ABC for "my package ". Tom is the best hahaha

  • chuck berry would be proud

  • What does he say at the end?

  • He sang this song much better than Elvis !!!

  • @LouisLeeKH why would you even make that comparison? it's a chuck berry song.

  • @LouisLeeKH ....what drugs are you on ,,, you need your fuck,n ears clean out man ,,,

  • La llea en mala TomJones!

  • what is this clip taken from and why is there writing in the middle of the screen?

  • "tom is the number one today, and i am his number one fan", Frank Sinatra.

"this man comes closest to me, the way i sing and entertain" Elvis Presley

"tom without you're act, i wouldn't have an act" Robbie Williams

"It changed the temperature of the room (when tom was on tv)" Bono, U2, age 8 at the time

"i started as a background singer for this man" Elton John

"the voice", according to Janis Joplin

"the only white soul singer", Wilson Pickett

  • Elvis was one of the most overated entertainers of all time.

  • @smitchelle What do you mean?

  • @smitchelle explain yourself?

  • If something's this awesome, there's no reason to play comparison games!

  • Tom Jones admired Elvis so much

  • Don't compare Elvis to Tom. I love them both!!! There is plenty of room! Get over it already. Tom could sing and dance and took good care of himself, thus he's still around!

  • Tom Jones is good but to compare him with the best he is very flat, both voice and stage performance.

  • Tom Jones is the best!!!

  • The best voice of all times!

  • elvis was better

  • rich little.the most unfunny entertainer on the face of the earth.all of his voice impersonations sound the same

  • Jozin z bazin

  • Tom jones does this so much better than Elvis / anyone for that matter.

  • @ajkb1988 NEVER ever my son...

  • sex bomb TOM ! - he has some healthy lungs too - he doesn't even get "winded " after all that singing and dancing !

  • ooooh he can daaaance:)..mmm mmm mmm

  • That's a man, right there. Sexy stud!.

  • everything is better when tom sings it

  • Seeing "ITC Entertainment Group" splashed across this, otherwise, great video really does SUCK!

Who gives a shit about ITC Entertainment Group? I like my Tom Jones sans advertisements splashed across his beautiful face and sexy, dancing body.

  • @SharMess

Well they were filming and broadcasting it- so it was more than an advert. ITC was the entertainment wing of ATV, one of the "major" ITV companies in the 1960's and 70's.

  • @SharMess

in the old days companies use to those idents on VHSs to stop them being copied. So that is probably one of those old VHSs?

  • Altough I like Tom Jones a lot, I would never compare Tom with any of the rock-&roll founders. Tom is more in the category of Albert Humperdinck and other crooners a-la big Vegas style!

  • tenès razòn joneswoodward ,Tom el mejor de todos por siempre

  • and you are a jackass.

  • Elvis has exceptional high notes and rich low ones, but what is more important is not how high or low it extends but where its center of gravity is. In his songs he was a baritone, a tenor and bass. HE had a velvety voice with no cracking and great versatility. Sometimes i thought that tom was too raucous but he was the best at his signature songs like green green grass of home, (elvis loved that) and i love delilah. Yes, we can enjoy them both.

  • @gemmamitzi if only the quality of comments on YouTube could be as good as yours. Spot on.

    Thanks x

  • @gemmamitzi Tom was pop baritone, while Elvis was more pop tenor. When Elvis sung deep as in Dixieland, he was struggling, while at the same note Tom would belt it out, and take the roof off. There is not too much difference in the middle C of their voices, but Tom was a lower middle C to himself compared to Elvis. Elvis with Dixieland live, copy paste and yootoob search,

    watch?v=m9saX9cF248

  • @yippitydodah Actually, Tom had more range, it was well documented that Tom sang in higher pitch... "high baritone". Conversely, the more "soul" baritones have the more traditional timbre, but sing in a vocal range that is closer to the tenor vocal range. Some of these singers include Tom Jones, Michael McDonald, and Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops -wikipedia

Elvis was lyric baritone with poor sustain to high notes, Tom's highest keeped note is High D.. Tom could have been great Dramatic Tenor.

  • @Tsirjones I beg actually to agree Tsirjones, I think you are spot on. Mama Cass was a semi-tenor harmony with the Mama and Papas, yes? you tube search copy paste in harmony here,

  • I like elvi's version way better,

  • Motown soul, Deep soul and southern soul, Memphis soul. new orleans soul, chicago soul, Philadelphia soul, Psychedelic soul, British soul, Blue eyed soul which tom jones is known for and which had evolved as all music does. Then comes funky funk, hahaha, anyway elvis sure got into my soul brother, oh yea .........

  • Soul started like i said before, and gospel tenor shawn nielson said of elvis "he could sing anythin, he had such great soul" James brown said " there will never be another like that soul brother elvis" The men in the know. If you know anything of soul you have to understand its subgenres, well lets see now,

  • i dont think he was great with rock and roll, and soul music combines elements of gospel and rythem and blues with intense vocals, and for me elvis is the best, and you are quite welcome to your opinion.

  • Well, elvis may have said that because he was not going to say that he himself had the best voice, and as they are from the same generation i have to disagree with you because i think no one could touch elvis. Now remember these are our personal opinions and i dont have to agree with you and you dont have to agree with me, i love elvis, i like tom jones, end of.

  • But cant we just enjoy them both?

    Elvis is King

    Tom Jones is "The Voice"

  • lol come on how can you compare them? they completly different :) tom jones u suberb and HILARIOUS! elvis is practically the best entertainer/performer of his era :) they re both great at what they do!!

  • Well then you need to listen to some elvis songs, because he sang them all, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, blues, rockabilly, gospel, pop, there is no way would elvis feel any shame..., he did sing it all.

  • Well wasnt that great with soul music, and he didnt have so soulful voice, but yeah he did sang all styles what was back in the day.

  • Tom jones wasnt that great with rockabilly, or rock and roll. and elvis had a very soulful voice.

  • I don't know about that; I'm actually one of the lucky few who got to see both Tom & Elvis live & in person. I really like Tom, and he has one of the greatest voices ever. But, I think that The King would've given Tom a lot closer run for his money than you seem to think. I'm not trying to start anything, just posting MO.

  • GOD - He WAS and IS the BEST

  • Good God, this Welshman was SEXY!!!!

  • look at the audience ... they seem to be overkilled ;-)

  • chuck berry is the ONE

  • DAMN IT!!!

and all those years as a kid looking fresh prince of bel-air on tv i thought they are exagerating with the carlton dance.

  • Listen to The 1969 Elvis version And you will see That Presley beat's it a thousend times!

  • True Elvis is King but give me Tom Jones anytime of the day his voice was so soulful and that body was to die for.

  • It's a Chuck Berry song...

  • Dirty old broad, lol

  • Keeps this dirty ol broad young....hah!

  • no way can this beat elvis

  • First off all i know this is not an original elvis song, but i saw his name here a few times and so i am allowed to state my opinion, which is of couse a matter of taste! Second, yeah elvis also beats chuck berry if you ask!

  • Jones is my number one vocalist, but i love both singers versions and, as a singer myself, Jones takes an awful lot more effort to try and even get close to along with his very matcho dance moves.

According to Elvis, he was highly influenced to make a comeback in the 60s after seeing Jones and took in his shows (drove 400 miles with Pricilla to see one) to check out his moves - and even use some in his own concerts - Jones also used some of the Elvis moves - very good friends till the end.

  • agree with "justrudo". this is so good. I prefer this over elvis's version anytime. So much energy and his vocal ability is unmatched up to this day...

  • I think its very clear, when we talk about "The Voice"

Extraordinary vocal ability, such a sad that these most watched videos are not some really good deep classics like "I Know" songs where he really showed his talent and voice, also recorded old High Heel snickers is great is also here, and ressurection shuffle and lots of other classics, Elvis was great, but lacked lot against Tom Jones as a singer and entertainer, you know Elvis took lot from Tom..

    man and voice tom jones.

  • This is indeed very good, but I still prefer Elvis' version of this song.

  • What he says in Welsh at the end, is 'White is your World this minute, and may you be happy.' It is a Welsh idiom and means - May you be Blessed and Happy. it is a difficult saying to translate but comes from the Sermon on the Mount in the New Testament - Blessed are those etc. Gwyn eu byd - means literally White is your world, but means may you be blessed.

  • he pulls this song off almost too well. very talented.

  • Funny you should say that. When he was struggling to make it back in the early 1960's, one of the criticisms short-sighted record executives made about Tom Jones was that he sang "too well". Funny, I would have thought that was the whole point. He sang so much better than any of the lead singers of his day (Mick Jagger? Puhleeeze!!) record companies were leery of him. How dumb was that!?

  • May you all be well and happy...

  • wow i really didnt think his voice would suite this song, but it was amzing

  • Was that Welsh at the end?

  • Yes, I can get you the translation if you want.

  • Look at him moving! Fantastic video, fantastic voice, fabulous entertainer.

  • If you have more, just post!

    thanks!

  • Thank you! It's amazing!)
