This is fascinating. I so regret, even considering my shallow funds at the time, not paying a mere 5 bucks to see Del in Iowa City when I was a grad student. That was in the mid-80's, just a few years before his death---one of my regrets.....

I remember evenings in Montana when I was a kid, mowing alfalfa on my folks' place, and singing "Runaway" to myself. One of those songs, you know, that really made a difference for a lonesome kid out in the sticks. Thanks, Del. Wish you were still here, man.

Great that the interviewer was at Del's '61 Australian show 25yrs earlier. It put Del in a good mood.That never happens in the US, (he'd probably've been interviewed by 25yr-old Japanese weather-girl). This was done '86 & Del's b.Dec'34, so the "when I'm 50" thing's funny: He's 51 at the time.

It can't be 1989 because he was 55 when he died in 1990 and the interviewer says that he is nearly 50 here, making it around 1984/5

'86 is when the "Crime Story" tour was happening. He's 51 here, b. Dec'34, not '36 The age thing was the residual effect of 'lowering' artists' ages in the late 50s early 60s, to appeal to teenage females.
