This is fascinating. I so regret, even considering my shallow funds at the time, not paying a mere 5 bucks to see Del in Iowa City when I was a grad student. That was in the mid-80's, just a few years before his death---one of my regrets.....
I remember evenings in Montana when I was a kid, mowing alfalfa on my folks' place, and singing "Runaway" to myself. One of those songs, you know, that really made a difference for a lonesome kid out in the sticks. Thanks, Del. Wish you were still here, man.
Great that the interviewer was at Del's '61 Australian show 25yrs earlier. It put Del in a good mood. That never happens in the US, (he'd probably've been interviewed by 25yr-old Japanese weather-girl). This was done '86 & Del's b.Dec'34, so the "when I'm 50" thing's funny: He's 51 at the time.
'86 is when the "Crime Story" tour was happening. He's 51 here, b. Dec'34, not '36 The age thing was the residual effect of 'lowering' artists' ages in the late 50s early 60s, to appeal to teenage females.
rockinkb, thank you from the bottom of my heart for this unbelievable footage. Del seemed so completely down to earth just like I'd expect another michigan boy to be. What an absolutely phenomenal talent and man!!!!!!!!
great interview from a talented artist .He appeared happy and wondered what is future would be at 50 years .Such a sad loss just a short time later A big influence to many top stars . thanks for the video

Del Shannon was a legend who died before his time. I still love his music to this day, yes he does look a bit like John Fogerty, Im a fan of his too.

What year was this interview? Thanks for posting -love it -

Thanks -

It can't be 1989 because he was 55 when he died in 1990 and the interviewer says that he is nearly 50 here, making it around 1984/5
