  • I love Jim Carrey!!!!!!

  • okay this makes me want to puke. does that tenor even know what this song is about?

  • AAHHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAAAAAAA omg, was having a crappy day till i watched bowl cut belt out an irrelevant part, this is a choral piece not a solo piece Gyrados.

  • tenor 1 has melody during melody verses only. Tenor 2 has melody during chorus.

  • Too much tenor for my liking. not a bad job though. the coolest part about this song is supposed to be how all of the parts mix to make one fantastic breathtaking song. i just feel the tenor was standing out too much. the other parts are not meant to be backup, but all support for one chord.

  • i think the tenor forgot he wasn't singing a solo piece...

  • i think it would have been a way better if they would have blended it all together and not let guy singing the loudest just over power the other three. and your right ES942 the melody is in the tenor 2 part. it's good don't get me wrong they just need to blend it all together. plus this song is not a barbershop song so that's really the biggest mistake...

  • @choirnerd99 hey im putting together an acapella group made up of chamber choir students at my school. and due to the fact we only have the SATB version of this song, thats the one we're learning. Do you have a copy of it in TTBB?

  • this sounds beautiful!!!! , but if a group is going to be exaggerated either, they all do it, or none of them. the tenor acts like the rest of the group isn't even there. lol. but beautiful to listen to >.<

  • I've been listening to this non stop and the melody belongs to both the tenor and bass 1. They switch the melody throughout the song.

  • Boys, that was just beautiful .

  • that was beautiful. congrats.

  • the tenor 1 needs to cool it with the hands and facial expression. he is ruining the message and meaning of the song with his obnoxious need for attention.

  • Obviously you don't know music because the tenor I has the melody in this whole song.

  • according to the sheet music the the melody switches back and forth between the 1st and 2nd tenor part.

  • This was beautifully done, and seeing the emotion they sang with escape to show on their faces made this version much more powerful and touching.

  • this is actually the correct tempo. it's supposed to be slow. but some people just perform it faster.

  • my favorite version so far!!!

  • omg they did so good i loved it

  • Fantastic Performance! I was very moved having done that piece many times before in choirs. I must know more about the quartet that performed it. Please contact me.

  • What arrangement is this?

  • Hi choirnerd99 - How do I find Childrens' Prayer on your channel?

  • uhhh what is this version... 10 bpm?

  • Its actually how this song is supposed to be performed...

  • I didn't say I don't like it.. but you don't think it's a bit under tempo?

  • supposed is a point of view i think...im singing this song in the same arrangement and in the same way but im just saying.

  • Omg!! Iv listened to this so many times! I'm being completly honest when I say this, I got goosebumps and cried when I heard this. You sound so pure, it's beautiful. I think u did a wonderful job of telling the story.

  • tenor isnt the only one with a cool part would have been nice to hear more of the backroud but you cant ever say, that it was a bad performence, i mean you conveyed the message and it was nice to sit and listen Thank You

Wish more people would aprecheate the human voice cause it is more than a way to communicate

  • dont listen to them. they dont kno wat they are talking bout. u guys are amazing

  • They never said that weren't amazing douche. I totally agree with ES942, because he is a musical genius.

  • @Frenchyboy13

douche? well who cares wat you think. they are critizizing even if it does not seem like it. they are telling him how the melody is written in a tenor voice and how this song does not amuse es94.

  • hahahahaha you tried so hard.

  • The dude singing loudly isn't singing the melody. The melody is the second voice, what he sang should be the higher harmony. He did a great job, he's just belting out a background part instead of the melody.

  • No this song isn't barbershop and the arr. wrote the melody in the 1st tenor, if you listen to the opening and when they all sing unison it is the same melody that the 1st tenor sings throughout the piece.

  • watch the on demand recording of this. i have the music and this same arrangement, and the melody is written in the second tenor voice.

  • Well then we must have two different arr. cuz I have this version and the melody for the majority of the time is in the 1st tenor.

  • what i'm saying the guy singing the loudest isn't singing the melody. the melody is not the highest part in this piece.

  • I understand what you are saying, all I am saying is that in the version they are singing in this video the melody is in the highest voice. I have this arr., if you look on my page I have sung this song many times, and I have studied it a lot and the melody is in the highest voice.

  • @choirnerd99 I see what you two are saying, but form what i've studied this group changed the piece a bit, and the actual melody is in the tenor part.

  • @choirnerd99 i just sang this for a state competition, the melody alternates between the highest and second highest parts (the two tenors). For example on "Crying Jesus", the second highest tenor has the melody. And in other parts like some of the verses, the highest tenor has the melody.

  • Nevermind, forget that, i sand a different arrangment. sorry.

  • @choirnerd99 but it isnt, in the music the main tune you hear is the high part, but the actual melody, stays the same as written in the original, its just not emphasised.

  • @choirnerd99 seems kinda slow. our choir goes a tad bit faster

  • @ES942 if you listen closer you will hear a higher part than the melody.

  • @dragynheart13 yeah i know that's what i was trying to tell him. but the part that the guys are singing as the melody, isn't actually the melody.

  • @ES942 actually in this version of the song, the tenor does have the melody. it is the highest part.

  • @ES942

I am singing this song (same arr. as well) in my choir at Nicholls State Unveristy. For about 90% of this arr. the melody is in tenor 1. I am a tenor 1, and I think I know if my part says melody or not. The tenor 1 in this performance could blend more to make it sound more as one.

  • @ES942 choirnerd99 is right, in this arrangement, the melody is in the first tenor. It's actually the original, written for a standard 4 part men's choir. On Demand used an arrangement for a typical barbershop group which puts the melody in the 2nd tenor in order to better facilitate the way barbershoppers are used to singing.

  • @ES942 Yes it is.

  • @Rollerbizzle54 did you notice that comment said 1 year ago? you're not going to convince me, i know what i hear. i don't care anymore. the tenor voice is not the melody.

  • @choirnerd99 I have the same arrangement and the melody is the Tenor 1 part. I'm sure that On Demand had the lead sing tenor 1 and the tenor singing tenor 2.

  • The melody moves, actually; most of the time it's Tenor 1, but sometimes it's in tenor 2, sometimes baritone and, briefly, in the bass.

  • @ES942 Sorry to say, but he's singing the "saprano" part. My high school is singing the SATB version of this song, and he is in fact singing the melody.

  • @LilKroog alright, can you let me know what a "saprano" is first?

  • @ES942 Well, to my ears, and I performed this song as well, as a second tenor, first tenor has the melody throughout the verses, and higher harmony in the chorus.

  • @writersblock99 yes, that's what i'm trying to say. the way this tenor is singing, he's acting as if his part is the melody in the refrain, which it's not. i guess i wasn't really that clear, my apologies.

  • that guy is a beast i think i might be jealous

my voice is only good for blending sounds around me

  • that's the beauty of choir. Not everyone is supposed to be a headliner, and the headliner isn't even the most important person.

  • i love this song. My school sang it at our fall concet. Check us out (Palm Beach Gardens High School Chorus) THANKS! God Bless

  • the tenor you all are speaking of directed my school districs festival and hes uber about expression and enjoying the music so its no surprise of his over exxageration! he even made us do this cheezy yet amzing choreogrphy while singing neighbors corus

  • my guys quartet sang this back in high school. i love this song.

  • it was beautiful :)

  • amazing dude wow

  • Comment removed

  • oh and baritone needs to come out on chorus. Who hits the c in the 4 chord

  • hmm the tenor does stick up. But he only blew 4 notes the whole song, so thats really good. I love that he uses full voice on the chorus and he has a good sound and tone quality, so overall, this is really really good! 5/5

  • This isnt a movie fag

  • I'm glad you can tell my sexual orientation from a comment on youtube. you must be a genius. I think everyone agrees that a choir or barbershop quartet is much better if they just stand there and sing the song instead of putting emotion into it. (btw frenchy it's called an analogy, you use it to compare things to eachother)

  • good lord tenor guy its called blend, blending is a must with this few people and a song of this nature

  • What a superb rendition!!! Thank-you!

  • amazing!!

  • Dude, there's three other guys with you. They're all singing too. Chill out.

    Ha! Friggin tenors. ;)

  • i agree with the majority--the tenor was a bit too expressive, maybe better in a barbershop quartet than with a song like this.

    Great song, though--goosebumps everytime i've heard/sung it.

i also think that this song is more moving with an excellent, well-blended men's choir (i'm not too fond of the mixed-chorus version) than with just four men.

    Don't get me wrong, this sounds pretty good. It's just personal preference. ^_^;

  • i think that guy should just sing. not act out the music let us figure it out.

  • But that makes it just guys singing. Not a barbershop quartet.

  • so you want to go to the movies and just watch people on a screen reading lines? sounds like a lot of fun :)

  • Music is expression, not mechanical accuracy. If he doesn't put his heart into it, it's not really singing.

  • Touche. I just think he acts it out a little too much.

  • @Frenchyboy13

    agreed.

  • I Gyrados maybe! I was thinking WeepinBell!

Cmon guys someone mention that amazing bass!!

  • Okay, so this is an almost-irrelevant comment, but this was bugging me for awhile. Now, don't get me wrong, this vid is the best I've seen of these guys so far, but like I said before, the tenor was just a bit too expressive. Now, I knew he reminded me of something. For those of you who have played/watched Poke'mon, at 3:51, his mouth looks very like a Gyrados. Had to get that out of my system, lol, sorry. Again, great performance, fellas.

  • YES!

  • there really good..it gave me goosebumps

  • this sends chills down my spine! absolutely amazing!!

  • That was phenominal, best vid I've seen of this yet. CRAZY-ASS-AMAZING TENOR! Very expressive, maybe a bit too much, BUT WHAT A BEAST!!!!

  • @JoeyLealThe3rd likes flat tenors and overdone fist pumping

  • ya that dude is too into it. :P hella good song though. performin this at graduation this year. :P

  • I gotta see these guys live it was awesome, but there bass is fenominal, then again the are all fenominal.

  • By far one of my favourite pieces out there. Always brings tears to my eyes, and these guys definately do it justice.

  • I agree very distracting but... still great

  • The whole only one guy moving thing is bothering me. Either everyone needs to move or he needs to move less. It is kind of distracting. But the song is amazing! :)

  • I'm sure it's much different seeing it live.

  • i saw this performance. the video was shot from a side angle. The lead was in the middle and surrounded. If you saw the performance from straight forward it didn't look "distracting" it actually draws you in. But it was all about the emotion.. and the preface to the song which was mentioned before they sang

  • this song is so amazing it touches the inermost depths of your soul

  • This was amazing!

  • there are 4

  • maybe the fourth guy is the "melody" in "3 Men + Melody"... or something... lol

  • Well of course. Since in a barbershop quartet the 4 parts are labeled Tenor, Lead(Melody), Baritone, and Bass. So yes, that is what it means.

  • hey my quartet is doing this same exact arrangement! (doesnt sound quite as good though :P)

  • Teehe, this is my opinion though

  • Indeed the tenor is good, but is throwing too much emotion out there to balance with the group.

  • lol i know what you mean :D

  • It gets annoying. I enjoy just listening to it.

  • He is in show choirs, so he is used to using his facial expressions and hands in order to tell a story. So, yes, he looks "strange," but, seriously, don't judge people unless you know the background.

  • Sorry. I didnt mean to offend. He CAN sing really well...

  • You shouldn't defend someone who is singing from their heart. XD

Isn't expression what all choirs want? ( I'm not being mean, I think that the man making motions is an idol for all singers.)

As I said, he loves it. Obviously, so we don't need to defend him.

  • very nice, my highschool sung this last fall, we took it a lil slower, its such a beautiful song!

  • Nice suits

  • Amazing song! My schools auditioned choir is doing this but the director is taking it way to fast. This song doesn't sound as good in 3 minutes. These guys are great, but a little overdramatic but it is amazing if you just listen. No need to watch. Props to the Tenor. He is really good!

  • Three Men & a Melody have their roots in Barbershop singing (finishing pretty high up in the world championships).

The art of performing Barbershop requires both facial and bodily expression.

FYI the difference between a choir and a Barbershop chorus is the effect on the audience. The audience appreciates a choir while they are entertained by a chorus. Simply different styles, not better or worse.

  • Agreed! :)

If you want to sing, perform with others both facially and bodily join a barbershop chorus!

  • I think it's the best sounding recording. I don't care what they look like. Good musicianship.

  • same like the rest like too much drama...try watching some of Straight No Chaser's videos on youtube i dun they have this song though...

  • I'm no rocket scientist, but I don't think the look on his face has a damn thing to do with how well he sings.

I love Three Men and a Melody. The tenor is just a showman.

  • Dang right Chris is a showman. His roots are in showchoir. I've worked with 3M&aM personally. They're amazing guys.

  • I have no idea who -1'd my post, but its true. The looks on his face are because he knows how to sing and put on a good show. You'll rarely see a great choral singer that doesn't contort his face like an idiot sometimes. You have to put your emotion into the music, or else its no different than reading the sheet music.

And yeah, so have I. Eric Derks' wife was my choir teacher for a minute. It was pretty rad.

  • defending your post huh? haha, it was very strong emotions, but coming from a choir background i appreciated it

  • Yeah, and he was my teacher. Everyone I talked to liked it a lot more then other times they have heard it.

  • Him and his wife were both my teacher at one point in time. His facial expressions are just him and he is amazing as are all of them

  • The one in the middle needs to calm down. But they're very good.

  • He has the melody and is showing emotion, while the others are doing there part and being the back up singers.

  • I understand, but it's really distracting.

  • Oh well most people loved it, they said it drew them more into the music.

  • I think the problem is his facial expressions... it's too much.

  • When in a small vocal group, it's hard to find the right mix between performance and showmanship. Close, but a bit on the melodramatic side. Great performance, nonetheless. Outstanding group overall, hands down.

  • I met the Tenor in 1997. It's funny, he looks like he's aged 1 year and 4 months since then. He has kids, so I'm not sure how he managed that.

  • Good Job!!
