Bach always used boy sopranos, so that's probably what bothers you. Harnoncourt believes in authentic original performance that are as close as possible to what you would have heard in Bach's own church. Other conductors are far more 19th century in their approach. With all the different recordings, you ought to be able to find one to your liking.
