This was very helpful. Thank you! I was taught the knit stitch, but I was never shown the purl stitch. :) I have the hang of it now. Thanks again for posting this.
I agree with TAYTAYS101 comment -- I too watched countless videos on how to purl and when I watched yours, all of a sudden everything made sense. Before I was not catching the loop and removing the old one.. instead I was leaving everything on!! lol THANK YOU for this wonderful video!!!
I was just yelling and swearing at myself in my living room, trying to teach myself the purl stitch (and I started knitting to de-stress). I watched dozens of other videos and just wasn't able to get the hang of it. Everyone just said "then push the stitch towards the back." What does that even mean??? I was beyond frustrated. Then I discovered this video! Just made sense. Thank you so much.
i had to watch a professional instructional video over a hundred times before i could even do the knit stich but by the end of this video i was doing the purl stitch just as easily as you are in the video! thanks for making such a comprehensive video. :)
I MADE my first knit item!! A simple washcloth, with a few holes notheless (Just learnt the knit stitch :P) but I'm SO HAPPY! Now I'm gonna try something more difficult with the help of your vids :D
Thanks you so much! You were extremely clear, and moved your needles so slowly; it actually gave me a really chance to see what was going on! Thank you!
@Mubarak635 If you purl through the other loop, it's referred to as 'purling through the back loop' or 'pbl' for short. It results in a twisted stitch. I did a video on knitting and purling through the back loop.
Thank you for this easy to follow video! I have been goin crazy the last 2 nights trying to figure out the purl stitch and this is the only video I found that made it soo easy!!!
thank you so much. i've been watching so many videos on how to do the purl stitch and this one has really helped me. it took me a while, but knowing which stitch i needed to catch really helped me a lot.
This is the only how to purl video that shows what's going on IN BACK when pulling the needle through. THANK YOU for taking the time to show and explain the catching of the little loop when pulling through and slipping the old stitch off the needle!
This is the only "how to purl" video that shows what's going on IN BACK as you're pulling the needle through after wrapping the yarn around. THANK YOU for taking the time to show and explain the catching of the little loop in back before slipping the stitch off the needle!
The only thing I found missing here was help with my problem with the FIRST purl stitch of each row. But I solved it: I figured out that the key is to make sure the yarn is on top of the right needle, as explained in elsteffo's "Changing Between Knit and Purl Stitches" (xc1nolkBY8A) or as emphasized in another purling video (MAMD_XpybQY). This concept applies to starting a purl row, not just to switching from knit to purl.
I was madly in hate with the purl stitch until I saw your video, thank you!! I was actually searching for videos on how to avoid it. finished a long scarf that was knitting the whole way so got kinda spoiled.
I did the same exact thing!! I just finished a long scarf that was only knitting. And I wanted to do a different design so I thought I should learn the purl stitch! this video helped me out sooo much. I watched other videos about the purl stitch and I still did not get it until now. Thank You soooo much.
OMG!! me too! i just figured it out! and i was like,"this woman is genius!" Wow, i can't believe i just figured it out. I even bought a book to help me, but that didnt help me one bit!! Thank You Thank YOu THANK YOU!!!!
still DON'T get it HELP

I don't understand how to "catch" the loop. I'm following how you do it, and thought I got it, but it just drops the stitch.
