You mean there are people out there that don't like Beefheart?? My wife don't like Beefheart but I thought she was the exception that proved the rule. I've always loved Beefheart, think I was born to love Beefheart... And these postings of Don and the band(s) just convince me more. Thanks all you guys for risking litigation and putting this stuff up!!
capt beefhart messed up some lyrics beefhart said grab the first thing smokn if u hear the horn blow and howlin wolf says call on the telephone and she answers awful slow grab the first thing smokn (even)if u have to HOBO,, lol,,Wolf was pretty good!!!
Great Cover! With all those British bands bringing the blues to white kids in the 60s Beefheart could have taken the obvious route to sucess and just been a Howlin Wolf imitator, instead he decided to be original and take a new path.
@bedtime4bonzo like, i know, man, but, he was, like, asking a question, so, i figured, id answer it. its obviously my opinion - BUT we are on youtube, so opinions are often expressed by everybody. regardless of whether or not you agree, there are lines in music can and should be drawn, and it is my opinion this crosses a line. it seems like is not paying proper respect to such a great musician, almost like its a mockery.
@CanadianFolkBlues mate what age are you ? you said this is disrespectful to the wolf HOW ! THIS IS EVOLVED BLUES and blues it is i bet you screemed and shouted when dylan went electric eh even if you are only 20 mate you need to get a grip beefheart was the onlyman able to sound like howling wolf and thats very widley regarded as true opinions are ok if they have reason if not they are rambles and possible sighns of maddness . mate im sorry to tell you your as mad as a fish with no fins
@deewilki still gotta disagree man, call me crazy...
from what i have understood about the blues is that its meant to be felt. everrybody has em, and all music has em in it, but if you start dressin it up with this and with that and start tryin to sound like somebody you arent, then your getting it all mixed up. to make it the blues ya gotta feel it and do it how YOU do it, not how the wolf did it... yeah, the combination of BAD harmonica and corny imitation just makes me hate! haha, sorry man
@CanadianFolkBlues It is a blues song. i agree, this isnt really the blues. the song is, and howlin wolf is. howlin wolf was one of beefhearts favorite musicians. this is just beefheart trying to be like his hero. this isn't the real beefheart. beefheart isnt a real blues musician, hes a child prodigy at sculpting that became friends with frank zappa and got into music. listen to trout mask replica if u want the real beefheart. beefheart does a good imitation of wolfs voice tho.
@CanadianFolkBlues To put this track in better context it should be pointed out it was recorded before Beefheart had changed the substance of his music from that of an everyday (but highly proficient) blues rock band, to something more boundary challenging as witnessed in Safe as Milk. As with free jazz, acid rock, and surrealistic poetry, the blues was one of the power sources Beefheart used as part of an infusion that created such an individual musical identity.
@bedtime4bonzo agreed! i forgot ALL about this shit... it was like a year ago since ive seen this, so i listened again, and yah, still cant help to think that, A - his harp playing is mediocre at best, and his singing is very silly. still think that this is more rock and roll than blues, and sure, thats my opinion, but go through my list of uploads, listen to some of that good old time and country blues, then listen to this and you may see where im comin from! its like going from steak to tofu !
@ArunNamboodiri There are 2 people out there in the world, who have lack of sense to vote thumbs up. Hell, if you don't like a song, just click the back arrow rather than thumbs down. Sad....

The blues was always essential to the Captain's music. One of the very greatest blues voices.
