  • Karen's voice came from a heart which belonged to very sensitive feelings...!

  • My favorite song, ever!

  • it's a beautiful song

  • @FilmFreakable2....

On the contrary, her brother Richard was quite affected by Karen't death. If he ever referred to her "shallowly" as you say, it might only be with the words he used but certainly the feelings were there.

  • Watch this footage and listen to those lyrics with the voice matching them; and you'll see the real, emotionally scared human being who wanted to be loved and told that she was loved. She isn't acting here, this is her life tragedy disguised as just another Carpenters song. She o didn't care about the fame, she just wanted to love living. Maybe she might be alive today if someone had reached out emotionally. Her brother to this day hides his true deep feelings, always rerfering to her shallowly.

  • If only...

  • PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • :(.. i don't belong here... i think i'm born in a wrong generation..

  • Karen's favorite song. We love you, Karen. You were much too loving and nice in this so imperfect world. Thanks for being a squeaky clean image. You and Richard may not have appreciated this, but Christian, conservative, wholesome people all over the world appreciated it. You epitomized goody goody and for that I love you

  • This song comes to me most in my heart

  • meaningful and relates...to anyone

  • Her voice is really beautiful. I feel a bit blue while listening to this song, 'cause I feel needing to be in love again as well, but still haven't found the right one... No matter how, I'll keep smiling and hoping for the best in the future!!! Happy everyday and Merry Christmas to everyone all over the world!!! :-)

  • beautiful voice, nice for sleeping song

  • Zawsze słucham jej ze wzruszeniem

  • … hanging on a hope, but I'm alright (^^ ♪

  • I feel like she does in this video all the time. Hard to be a decent looking and behaving guy in today's world. Handy, I take care of myself, but no one sees it I guess.. Everyone else says "Oh just let go and it'll happen" Well it's to important to let go and be forgotten instead.

  • what a beautiful song very inspiring!wish imalways inlove at all time!

  • Some of these videos were better than anything in the 80's...

  • I feel just like Karen all the time.

  • I don't know why she didn't find a partner who really love her for what she is and stayed with her. Why did she get divorced? what was that man thinking?

I think that if I had lived in that time and met Karen I had married her. xD

and YES, I need to be in love too. I hope to find someone like Karen someday, with a noble heart, with beautiful feelings, and lovely soul.

May God rest her soul in heaven. <3

  • Beautiful!!, Thanks for posting.

  • I like this music!!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL !!!

  • i can rely on this song, still single yet happy in the lord, beautiful and meaningful song, love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i can rely on this song, still single yet happy in the lord

  • BEAUTIFUL !

  • got save she on Heaven

  • got save she on Heaven

  • she wanted so much to have a normal life with family and children ... that life with all its fame and money led her to an unhappy life ... she never reached what she really wanted ..... too bad ...very sad...fame and fortune are not for everyone ..It wasn't the best thing for Karen Carpenter. She was just an ordinary person in an unordinary world she found herself embedded in... The brother bathed in the fame and money at her expense.

  • I´ve just finished reading "Little Girl Blue - The Life of Karen Carpenter" (Randy L. Schmidt) and this video is SO emblematic - Karen was never happy in her love life... and Richard only married after her death. They needed a life beyond The Carpenters! I still miss her very much. Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.

  • Ah, air travel in the old days. . . when people dressed in appropriate attire, passengers got really nice service, but thank heavens there's no more smoking allowed! The Carpenters, as always, are wonderful!

  • its obvious karen carpenter could sing just about any style music-terrific voice, so why did her brother write so may sad and quiet songs(depressing?) and did this maybe affect her mentally leading to her self destructive ways?

  • LOVE THE EYEBROW LIFT AT 0:52. she is so cool!

  • Is that Mary Carpenter....Richard's future wife in the beginning at the airport? It looks like her!

  • @psychedelics12345 It is

  • I thought it was Arnold on 2:17

  • hoooray...by the end they've finally found each other :)

  • I love her smile....make me feel relax and serene

  • I have to say I could not hold back the tears listening to this song. I forgot how wonderful the Carpenters were. I grew up listening to them. The world lost one of it's best voices when Karen passed away. RIP Karen.

  • Karen said this was her favorite of all the Carpenters songs.

  • i Love her voice very much, i feel it in my heart :)

  • I completely understand. I miss her so much. Her voice makes my cry too.

  • Died of being love sick imho.

  • Karen : I wanna go to heaven to see you for eternity .

  • Karen : Quiero ir al Cielo para verte eternamente

  • Richard and Karen's cousin Mary has a walk on in this video... at 0:22 to 0:27 on the clock.. she and Richard would go on to marry in 1984 and have five kids together..

  • @carpentersfan2010 I'm not sure how I feel about that. I guess the heart wants what the heart wants. I wonder how others feel about it. It's different. I wonder how common that is in the world. I guess if everybody's happy....I don't know. It makes me feel confused. I wish them all well though

  • @tubiebrother Well I can tell you that Karen herself was both "furious" and "livid" when Richard started dating Mary.. someone that she'd only ever seen as a kid-cousin. She and Richard had a number of heated arguments about the issue. In the end Richard told his sister that "Mary and I have had the blood testing done... If we have kids they will be fine. So let it drop." However Karen was forever on gaurd and scared that the relationship would come back to haunt them all...

  • @carpentersfan2010 I'm not trying to criticize really, but you're quoting Randy Schmidt's book verbatim. And "furious" and "livid" mean exactly the same thing. He was quoting two different people that described Karen's reaction of being extremely angry about it. When you say it alone, it is redundant.

  • @tubiebrother I will conceed that point now that I re-read my comment about Karen's reaction. You are right .It was redundent but I wanted to be sure that I quoted "Little Girl Blue" and Mr. Schmidt's book correctly. The fact was this relationship was yet another "stress" point for Karen who we know by this time in her life was dealing with an eating disorder that was spailing out of control not to mention a mother that was too blind to see her daughters obvious cries for help.

  • @carpentersfan2010 When I read all those parts about Mary and Richard dating, it doesn't really seem to clarify that well if Karen was against it because she was their cousin or for another reason like they were dating while on tour and she wasn't or she didn't like her or whatever. The comments make them seem like they thought at first that's why Karen was against it, but then it becomes unclear after that if she was or not. I only read that one book though.

  • thanks soo much for the video....i listened to her music growing up..and i still love her voice..and her songs..she was sooo gifted and talented..miss her to..:O)

  • @196060serenity Personally I think that most likely that Karen was upset that this could come back to bite them all in the butt when the media found out about it. Karen was concerned it might damage their public image. Never mind the fact that "incest" rumors had been whispered for for years because of the fact that they were brother and sister. Then all of sudden Richard started dating their cousin... It would have been a unpleasant reminder of rumors about she and Richard...

  • @carpentersfan2010 I figured you meant to reply to me and not 1960...: I was reading the part in the book again and even though it makes it seem like karen might be just against Richard spending all his time with someone on tour, I figured that that was why>what you are saying as well. It said that Itchie thought maybe at first she thought it was the gene thing but then richard said they would be healthy children. It was just that they were cousins and that is kind of taboo. Randywas being safe

  • karen's voice make me feel like i'm in a old movie, her voice was just amazing

  • karen's voice make me feel like i'm in a old movie, her voice was just amazing

  • Homenaje a KAREN CARPENTER(1950-1983)

  • pag marinig ko tong awit, parang mawala lahat ng mga problema ko sa buhay

  • この動画、いいですね。

  • @0826yuuji anung sulat yan parang bulate sa lupa

  • as a rock drummer, I appreciated Karen's muscianship. As an arranger, I appreciate Richard's MANY contributions. As a hopeless, romantic, I will forever be in love with Karen's voice and articulation!

  • there are 25 peoples really need to be in love...

  • such a beautiful haunting voice

  • Karens fave song !

  • Excellent upload. Karen knows how to flirt, she is hard to resist. I wonder if this vid reflects a part of their live as they worked so hard as artists.

  • This song is the most favarite in Carpennters songs.

  • one of the best love song of all time

  • They were both adorable on top of being talented.

  • she looks so unhappy

  • As someone who is alone with no girlfriend,I can relate to this song.Sometimes life is so difficult and it is even more difficult to find someone who will accept you for who you are.I have schizoaffective disorder, what i fear is if a girl knows that, she won't try to understand and leave me.Life is so unfair, but this song comforts me and little by little,i'm accepting the fact that I will remain alone for the rest of my life.

  • i know her feeling " i'm wide awake at four a.m. without a friend in sight"

  • totally agree, Karen's voice is so beautiful and PERFECT, no other singers can compare.

  • beautiful!

  • A part of me died with her.

  • @ticket88 I hear you...Karen's voice was perfection, and there will never be another...

  • Gotta love her! :O)

  • She got a beautiful voice and all her songs are full of meaning that can relate other people.

  • sigh x

  • Karen is so beautiful inside and out. Love songs from that era have so much meaning and resonance. Today's "Love songs" are just about hopping in bed with as much people as you can. Most young people today are being taught the wrong meaning of love.

  • @2Kriss2Kross precisely..i agree with you...i love her voice...it makes me fall in love...again and again...

  • @2Kriss2Kross a very pretty tune, and like all good old love songs, it depresses me in a wonderful way...Karen must have been an angel - humans don't have voices like that...

  • Karen has the most sweetest smile, makes you cry and smile at the same time

  • Everyone has a moment of thinking like this. Karen loved this song most because she was singing about herself. Thanks, Karen ! You are still alive in our memories.

  • why are all the names of songs I like and search turn out to be by her? I'm a old soul

  • hoy my heart

  • This song makes me feel like crying.

  • Look at the jealous guy in 1:30

  • I don't think I've seen a Carpenters' MV with a storyline, so this is surprisingly nice, thanks for the upload. Karen looked so good at that time.

  • Old songs are better than today.

  • Great song after all these years....

  • Wow, brings back memories of the good old days of flying -- back when airlines fed you and gave you decent leg room and the middle seat was always empty. Sigh.

  • Cute video. Thanks for posting.

  • this was such a great song sung by karen So much feeling and true meaningful words Truly one of thr greats so sadly missed by many Thankyou!

  • Back in the seventies when I was a teenager (and an idiot) I considered The Carpenters to be lame and uncool.

Now, at 49 years old - After having lived, loved and lost... I love and appreciate their art more than I ever would have guessed.

Karen has been gone for 28 years now. However, her beauty, talent and sensitivity shall never leave us.

  • @tibault123 Ditto here at 52, she was SO Cool.

  • Back in the seventies when I was a teenager (and an idiot) I considered The Carpenters to be lame and uncool. Now, after having lived, loved and lost... I appreciate their art more than I ever would have guessed.

  • @oli992008 Thank you very much!!

  • Karen is angel of LOVE.....from Japan

  • I just want to say something...all i want to hear, i found it here!

  • Such an angelic voice.Left us way to young. One of our best female singers ever.Thank you for this song.I am sure she is singing in heaven.

  • who are the 25 barbarians?

  • @MasterAceman123456 Very eloquently stated.

  • @MasterAceman123456 Those 25 people don't need to be loved.

  • There is no comfort, just very sad we lost Karen, and Brad, Jimi, Jim, John and Janice and many more. We don't write these chapters. These fine friends are taken from us while we're enjoying them so much we don't recognize they're in trouble. Sad song I'd never heard before - I'm crying in pain, but I cry real easily. my mom, the cat - my cricket - I miss them all - YouTube breathing life back into these gems. What a great legacy. Keep the hard hits coming all. And cryin's gud fur da soul.

  • i realy like there song. i love it so much

  • Karen has an amazing voice. Too bad theres no singer that sings like her in my generation. I missed out.

  • Too bad karen didnt look to any fan for love!

  • one of the most beautiful songs in the world in my eyes.

  • Feb. 4. Sonnet 18 Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date: (…) But thy eternal summer shall not fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest, Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou growest: So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee. Well said, Willie
  • great song..old but better than new..

  • Karen is so charming in this video whatever her beliefs, she was lovely, and had a beautiful voice. the best. Why she couldnt fnd anyone to love her? its so sad.

  • @SweetSesatia They were too busy performing, Karen never really had time to meet someone who truly loved her, but be comforted, she has all of you who truly do.

  • Karen just nails the lyric in this song. I think it's one of her very best performances.

  • 2.33 is so bittersweet.. happy yet sad... would be considered a very early video

  • 2.38 is so bittersweet.. happy yet sad... would be considered a very early video

  • yikes, seventies men. No style. Especially the one who raises a glass, look at that hair!!!

  • karen's voice makes me cry..

  • @yoko564 Like right now!

  • Truly a shame. What a beautiful voice.

  • How sad it is to die feeling like you need to be in love. I feel that I need to be in love because sometimes I feel so empty. I wish I had someone to share my dreams with but hopefully I have met the man of my dreams. He's a gentleman in every sense of the word.

  • "I no I ask perfection of a quite imperfect world and fool enough to think thats what i'll find". Kind of sums up life really, amazing songwriting and singing. Where are such lines in todays music.

  • silky voice. i know her teary death but she looks so lovely in this vid. RIP

  • Karen Carpenter is missed very much in my life today. I saw her in concert at Springfield MO in the 70s. Karen is my favorite music artist!

  • @DTRedbird bolahen mo lelang mo panot

  • Th angelic voice of karen will live forever I love you May you rest in peace > I know that you"re one of the angels up there because you have touch the lives of many people

  • goood job

  • ...dear god...may karen find happiness and joy in ur kingdom...amen...

  • Quando escuto essa melodia me faz lembrar daqueles momentos únicos que a gente tem na vida. Momentos que vão e não voltam nunca mais...

  • Her voice is perfection...simply amazing!

  • The people who disliked this must be MAD!!! how can you not like this song, I mean this has to be the BEST song in the world! It touches my heart so deeply. I can relate to what the lyrics mean too, and the struggle to find true love. If only Karen had known how loved she really was....she'd be here today. Shame on the person who called her chubby, I hope they are feeling guilty forever!

  • @4EverCarpenters exactly! this is the best song ever!! i love the carpenters!!

  • A truly beautiful haunting voice . One of the best

  • so many true words in that song

  • Great Song, where are they now? I'm only 24 but i love this music and the carpenters..

  • Her smile lit up the room, beautiful person indeed. So sad what happened to her, and her beauty shone out through that voice. Today's singers are insignificant compared to Karen. Celine, Whitney and Mariah may be impressive, but they lack the soul, sweetness and depth that Karen had. To me there has never been a more perfect female voice.

  • MUITO BOM!

    INESQUECÍVEL CANÇÃO!!

  • the heavens are so lucky, they have my mum,my dad and karen to sing for them all. luckily we have her recording's! first class vocalist :)

  • I met one of Karens managers in Canada in Toronto.

He said that Karen was an "A PERFECT PERSON IN AN IMPERFECT WORLD "

It was her desire for perfection that made her music amazing and her personal life hellish.

Karen sings from the soul and that's what makes it so honest. RIP ____Karen

  • LoL !! 1:30 !!!

  • @Amorning2remember that piece at 1:30 reminds me so much of Barney Fife from the Andy Griffith show lol.Sry Rich.

  • Who comes closer to having a more perfect voice; and the arrangements by Richard are under rated and beyond noteworthy.

  • musica muito bonita. karen tambem. que pena que se foi tao cedo

  • How I miss you Karen Anne Carpenter!

  • Yep, I was on nightshift working in a London computer room when the news of her death came over the night radio. We all found that we all liked the Carpenters, not something young blokes into The Clash, The Jam, Iron Maiden usually "admitted". Turned out most of us had Carpenters tapes for our Walkmans and we put them on the company stereo and smiled. There was no real greiving as Carpenters music makes you smile or think. This particular song has given hope to so many on so many lonely nights.

  • You know, people talk about where they were when they found out that Elvis or John Lennon died...and there is no comparing any deaths...but I can still remember being at work in a restaurant and being told that she had died and I was beside myself. If you had just eaten something girl......why didn't anyone notice how thin she was if WE could see it....I mean now it's so obvious.

  • ohh karemis so beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • beautiful

  • Karen I miss you... I don't know why but my "love" life is being mirrored in your many songs. I thank God that He gave the Carpenters to the world to spread songs that are truly straight from the heart.....

  • The beautiful lush backing vocals and harmonies on this that once again are trademark Carpenters

  • special lady. it's a shame nobody got through to her in time. such a deep loss. think about that, all you beautiful anorexic girls. you are smart with big hearts and it hurts to lose you. I hope people born later realize just how special she was. gone way too soon.
