I have a PhD in economics, and im a professional trader for a hedge fund. What has happend to our America is a sad thing, but its being worked out. Obamma's plan will only make things worse. Another amazing speech where he says nothing. Mr. Holl"O". Anyone can list problems, but concrete solutions? And in his hollowness he plays around the edges, giving the indication government has to insert itself into the equation. Yes government, that miracle macine that's given us social security and the IRS. As for his pathetic opening, what hard science doe he have to back up his claims about global climate change being man made? OK... it exists if you say so:yes we can... change... pathetic
He spent 12:37 saying absolutely nothing. He listed problems, offered negligible solutions. It's his MO... Mr. Hollow. That is talent. you can't trust. And his bit on global climate change? Where is the hard science proving man is responsible? He wants to change our way of life on something unproven. And disproven with every passing day.
Obama is America's best chance for the future. Real policies and the intelligence to implement them in the face of fierce opposition lobbying in Washington from those with a vested interests.
Funny thing. in the 70's there was the first Energy Crisis, gas lines etc.. and nothing has realy been don since then that is 30 plus years. So you see unless the guys behind the scenes are taken care of ( Chaney and the Bush Kabal) then there will always be words but nothing will ever be done because the fat white man is in charge of the oil companies so a true revolution blood and all or just sit back watch Youtube and play X-Box..
inless we stop using oil under 5 years and start chaging it now other wise think if u where born in 2040 and its was esitmated 110 degrees allmost everyday and fresh water was gettting harder and harder to fined? so if we change all the cars to run on something else like corn oil and change it noe its ethier now or worser!
all this pollution is makeing people sick and getting worser. people get sick, mutated and other things will happen. we probaly all die out soon in about less then 100 years with the rate of oil being used so the less oil was us we use the human race is pushed further in to out of extinction about few hundred years.
Barrack hasn't a clue and that's why he doesn't stand a chance. We'll see if this comment is erased this time.
By the way, the auto industry hates democrats. It puts autoworkers in a weird category...usually they are union supporting working-class democrats, but they are smart enough to recognize democrat legislation that will rip them from their jobs.
Can't we make a law that says...every house built from such and such date on, has to use at least 80% or so of the energy from solar panelling??? Force people to do that.
This would be a fantastic way to reduce our energy use, but it's not the role of the federal government to dictate that. However it would be within the power of your state to do that, and I would suggest you petition for it.

It is obvious from looking at the ratings of his YouTube videos that he is the most popular candidate among YouTube users... so please, if you are 18 or older, register to vote and help this man win the primary. naturalcessation, Obama is talking about Hugo Chavez, the socialist populist who acts despotic. And by the way, despot means someone who doesn't consider the interests of the people, but do whatever they want. Yep, that's Hugo Chavez!
I don't care about green house gases (carbon dioxide). I only care about smog (NOX, CO, VOC), which cause real problems today and are measurable. The problem with cars is the fairness issue - people with less money still want cars. They do not want to pay 20,000$ for a clean car. This comes from a go v t in spe tor.
I am curious about about what Senator Obama is planning to help car companies build cars that use safer fuels because I don't hear much details. Would he subsidize the companies? Will he create government programs to make biofuels? I just wish I'd hear something more straight to the point. Many people in cities have already heard how greenhouse gases could change our environment.
not looking at a written speech on the podium. all speeches like this have two teleprompters on either side of him so he can look at both sides of the audience. notice how he is either looking left or right?
You're right. At 1:02 you can see the one on the right side, at the edge of the frame (even with the height of his shoulders), and at 1:07 you can clearly see the one on the left side.
This man can speak and is well educated. Its funny people couldnt image a man like Obama to run, and raises some hate. A man who wants peace and freedom and no corruption. Bush knew nothing and scammed his way threw the president by his father. Obama might be muslim but who gives a crap, he might be black, since when did we bleed differently, colour is nothing.
Thanks for your recognition of Obama and what he has to offer to this country. He is truly dynamic. He is not merely well-educated, but a seasoned intellectual. He is a college law professor that specializes in constitutional law. He truly has mastered the workings of the American government from the inside out. I would assume Obama has good intentions for America and her auto industry, but someone needs to inform him it is not the role of government, at least according to the constitution, to regulate the private sector. The only way Industry will change is when the buyer's habits change.
This is a mistaken notion - that government is not responsible to change an industry. Government has been the catylyst for social and industrial change since the beginning of time. We can't leave this up to the whims of consumers. The whims of consumers have brought us to the brink with lust for bigger, faster, gas guzzlers. These will become museum pieces as they become obsolete -- through voluntary action or government action.
It's been awhile since AP US history class, but I thought the Constitution gives the federal government authority to regulate everything related to interstate commerce.
Detroit has needed this speech for a long time. I have a hard time feeling sorry for (corporate) Detroit. Since the 19700s, they've resisted change, building larger and gas hungry vehicles, while foreign auto makers saw the writing on the wall and started working on fuel-efficient vehicles.
This couldn't have been an easy speech for Obama to make. I respect him for making it.
As snarkwaupaca said - where is your evidence? It seems like a made-up line, for whatever reason you have. It is sad to attack people with no cause. Let the truth speak out! whether black, white, yellow, red, or green.
Outstanding speech. This couldn't have been an easy audience for this kind of speech, but he told it like it is anyway. Barack wants the best for our auto industry and the best for the world.
I took a lot away from this, but one thing merits special mention. Sen. Obama believes government can do something positive for all Americans. That's a welcome relief. I'm sick of being led by politicians who see government as a mechanism for satisfying special interests.
Sentence #1: If so then he would be the second president in a row. Obama did it in this order stupid teen behavior, serve neighborhoods, Go to law school. Bush did this: Daddy gets easy placement in millitary, go to law school, stupid teen behavior when he was 28. Now clarify who is more messed up for me?
Do you just love making that last line up? Do you have any evidence of this. You are just like the folks that said JFK would put the demands of the Pope ahead of America because he was Catholic. You love the broken political system because polarizers like you will have no place when people start ruling from the middle.
Derek only want's to hear from Americans who type well. It's his own little cocoon against any "troubling" ideas comming across the sea. He thinks it makes him more of a selective listener.
Oh Littlecoloredboy, you must have had a grand time siting on daddy's knee watching O'Reiley and Hannity. And then you made the funny joke about lazy immigrants and everybody laughed. Good Times! Now your all grown up and daddy and Jesus are so proud of their little boy, afraid of all right boggiemen but still angry enough about whatever to kick people when they are down. Good Luck on life.
What I'm saying is that Chavez is a dangerous and tyrannical person, & so is President Bush. Just because he controls the greatest country in the world does not mean he is an acceptable or "great" leader in any way, shape, or form. Period. I love my country, thankfully. When "the Free World" is depriving and starving so many people of it, is that NOT as terrible as Chavez's rise to power in Venezuela? Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. End of it.
Chavez doesn't have NEARLY as much power as Bush had and still has by being the US President. Think about it - if Chavez announced tomorrow that he was taking Venezuela to war with, say, Burkina Faso (why not?), the rest of the world would jump on him and stop him.
But if, say, the United States went to war with a third world nation to "stop terrorism" and then, in the idiotic and aimless process, created more of it...why didn't anyone stop it?
finally a politician that understands that out addiction to oil is harmful. not sure about calling venezuela a 'dictatorship' tho, 'socialist success story' is more like it.
LIE! According to the CIA fact book when Chavez took office 55.7% of the population of Vz lived below the poverty limit. Now Because of Chavez socialist reforms only 33.2% live below the poverty line. Thats a huge 22% reduction in 8 years. He's never gotten below 60% in the elections. They've been declared legit from the EU and Carter Center.
Hitler was elected. The people liked him. Was he not a dictator? Was he not evil? Chavez has so far started insurrections in his country, has passed bills allowing him to make decrees (like a monarch), and when he was opposed in 2002 his national guard and snipers were found shooting protesters. Is he a good leader? No. He is corrupt.
His national guard snipers were not found shooting protesters. I think the documentary 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised' explains it pretty well. It should be on Youtube somwhere. I find it quite an uplifting story of Democracy triumphing over corruption.
"the bills allowing him to make decrees" is something totally legal since a looong time ago in venezuela. ALSO in 2002 he got kidnapped and took to an island and people of the country went out to the streets to protest in front of the presidential house requesting him back. The new forced government with an empresary that juramented himself as a president had to run away. By the way this COUP was recognized as a " democratic way out" by USA government.
The Columnists like Majeta and others in the Chicago paper biz made this speech out as a bomb, with the crowd silent and abrasive to Obama's message on Efficiency. Poppycock!! The Crowd was supportive and cheered Obama's leadership that has been needed for the past 7 years. On a carbon cap and trade he got an applause.
i dont mean to insult any one but u guy are showing varying degrees of ignorance and i dont blame u... the corporate media is furious that chaves is seeking independance for latin america hence his attemted assasination... he is a good man,,, natiolizing his countries national resources and bringing good to the people and withdrawing from the world bank and the IMF...
Chavez isn't as bad as the current US President, nobody is doubting that. But both the men are too extreme in their methods. Maybe that's why I support someone as calm, intelligent, and awesome as Obama.
A Republican will end up in the White House if the Democrats don't nominate this guy.
They will smoke Hillary out with all the baggage she and her husband carry from all their years in Washington.
With Obama, he has too much class for the Republicans. What his country needs most after Bush is someone who would unite this country as one and help it move forward. Obama is man.
Obama wore "a Dress" to the gig? That can't be right.
Kidding aside, Barack Obama made nothing but sense in MoTown. Barack tells people what they need to hear not what they want to hear, making him different from every other candidate out there. Barack Obama truly is The Man! The Man with the Plan. Real Change is here
If we elected presidents for knowlege or experience Colin Powel and/or Wes Clark would be president already. Instead we vote for those with vision and the ability to build coalitions. Obama is there NOW.
well i understand why he said dictators in Iran, because he is ignorant about the COMPLEX political system there and he have to say that to win a US election, he cant be WITH iran no way...BUT to say dictators in venezuala...WTF!!! hugo chaves is the most liberal guy in latin america and he won in a fair election... so i THINK that he said that either either of ignorance or to please the some lobbying groups....i dunno but he is very very wrong to say that...peace
true about the elections but Chavez is a very authoritarian leader centralizing power into his own possition of president annd sometimes overriding his parliament. however, your right to point out obama was wrong with that statement id like to see him explain why he thinks a man with wekll over 50% of the popular vote is a dictator
Buddy you don't understand the meaning of the word 'dictator'. It has nothing to do with winning an election. Hitler was a dictator despite the fact that he used constitutinal means to become the head of state of Germany.
A person becomes a dictator when he or she operates by the principle of "it's my way or the high way". And that's exactly what Hugo Chavez is....A Dictator!
Might want to correct the spelling of "adress" to "address". Seeing as how this channel is Obama's official YouTube channel, and this reflects badly. Just a thought. Other than that, good speech.
I have a PhD in economics, and im a professional trader for a hedge fund. What has happend to our America is a sad thing, but its being worked out. Obamma's plan will only make things worse.

Real Change is here
Obama '08.
Be Well.

If we elected presidents for knowlege or experience Colin Powel and/or Wes Clark would be president already. Instead we vote for those with vision and the ability to build coalitions. Obama is there NOW.

which are you upset about? Iran or Venezuela?

well i understand why he said dictators in Iran, because he is ignorant about the COMPLEX political system there and he have to say that to win a US election, he cant be WITH iran no way...BUT to say dictators in venezuala...WTF!!! hugo chaves is the most liberal guy in latin america and he won in a fair election... so i THINK that he said that either either of ignorance or to please the some lobbying groups....i dunno but he is very very wrong to say that...peace

true about the elections but Chavez is a very authoritarian leader centralizing power into his own possition of president annd sometimes overriding his parliament. however, your right to point out obama was wrong with that statement id like to see him explain why he thinks a man with wekll over 50% of the popular vote is a dictator

And I must add that, so is George W. Bush.

Might want to correct the spelling of "adress" to "address". Seeing as how this channel is Obama's official YouTube channel, and this reflects badly. Just a thought. Other than that, good speech.
