  • ahhhhhhhh makes sense, It's not really about training the dog ...it's about training the person!!!

  • You are very good at explaining things. Usually when i listen to a trainer i cant understand what they mean but you are very clear AND you make it easy to remember!!

  • is the dog training circle free??

  • keep up the good work Eric! your awesome! thank you SOOOO much!!!!

    :)

  • You are SOOOOO smart!

  • @onlymomma Thank you!

  • I have a problem, whenever I use a harder tone of voice my dog goes on her back, with all four up. I don't know what to do, I tried to say no, I tried to ignore it, I tried to correct it by calling her over.... but she just insists in that position. Whenever she feels something is wrong, she goes into that position. But when she wants to cuddle she goes into that position too. Any ideas?

  • @Tutovillage food drive is a part of prey drive.

  • Comment removed

  • @Tutovillage part of pack drive. I agree, dogs have many different drives but they all fall under the three primary drives - pack, prey and defense.

  • Thanks so much. So sick of hearing how to cure a very dog aggressive boston terrier with shock collar! So humbling to see where I have made basic mistakes, and how to correct them in the future. Thank you.

  • I have spent an hour now watching these videos and I have learned so much. I am just amazed. Why do you not have your own tv show??? Will have to suggest it. Thank you so very much for helping us dog owners. There will be a lot of happier dogs and owners as more people find you.

  • @terimelton Thank you! Glad they have helped you.

  • Question: I have two lab mixes, about 45lb each. When I'm walking them, they walk next to me no problem. tails level. However,w hen they hear another dog bark, we pass a dog barking at a fence or, encounter an off lead dog that barks at them, my male's tail goes straight up and starts to tug roughly, the female follows his lead in pulling but tail is low. This also happens with cats. He has whippet, so I know he has instinct to chase. She has border collie. What do I do to stop this behavior?

  • This was very helpful and the 3 drives were well explained. Thank you for posting this :)

  • Hi I have 3 dogs. 2 chows and a baby boxer. I am working with them on walking on a leash outside. so far the 2 chows go nuts out side by themselves and with each other.pull running on grass they don't listen at all even with dog treats. they don't have the same reaction when trained in the house. What should I do?

  • hi i love this video .i want your book . is it available in india ?

  • Will my pit bull attack me when it gets older ?

  • Great! I love the away Jimmy reacts to the first call! LoL!

  • Hi, Very good talk. I am trying to teach my terrier and knowing what you talked about helps. Thanks

  • cool! So, what if it is a neighbor dog that you want to stay away from you. I have this problem when we visit our new property we hope to develop and the pack of dogs living across the street try to chase us away. I am worried my kids will get hurt. the siberian husky has growled at me when I tried to stand my ground. could have been my tone. trying to be assertive and avoid a fight.

  • Have you contacted animal control?

  • yes, that is the first thing I did but they still come around sometimes. I guess I'll have to keep calling them. It makes things hard to be neighborly with them. They get tired of having them in their house so they just let them roam.

  • @eletendre1: I have a new puppy and really love playing with him. I also teach my puppy using really nice method from my friend Charlie he is available @bit . ly/cgfERC

  • Dog Training - Dog Bite Prevention Video ---->

  • Very insightful, thank you.

  • I'm so conflicted over the tips you give- sometimes the things you're advising owners to do are tips that I've found very effective in my own training, but the theory behind your methods doesn't seem to have any basis in science. For example, I love the advice not to use the harsh tone or potentially threatening body posture for recalls, but I'd love to see the research that supports the trio of drives you're using as the foundation for this advice.

  • Search the term "Conflict" means on the dictionary.

  • Go find the meaning for the term "Conflict" in the dictionary first before posting anymore nonsense here okay..thanks. =)

  • yyou are boss!!

  • Wow! This video is very useful and shows how training can be effective if you use the right kind of body language. Great information!

  • amazing! i will try that on my dog!

  • very cool

  • hey i have adog name bella sh

  • come bella!!! good puppy!!

  • wow

  • amazing!!!!!!

  • I will try it on my dog :D

  • how did u go mate?

    did it work>

    did u do it already

    cheers!

  • wow that makes so much sense!! THANKS SO MUCH!! I'm sure this is going to REALLY help as the only thing my dog and I haven't mastered was the 'come when called' thing!! THANKS!!

  • the thing about chow is true i have a pure breed chow and i try to to play with him and i do but then he just walks away and i call him back but he just ignors me it's funny when he does that ahhaha.

  • That's a very good example.

  • Lol i have a Chow/lab mix, hes soooo cute!! hes verrry smart, he onley likes my family, anyone else, he doesnt like, he attack a pitpull mix, (my friends dog) and dont worry hes alright. :) (and my dog was abused as a puppy, he was tested and thats why he has a hard time trusting us :'( )

  • i am new to dogs. ive never had one growing up as a kid and now i am getting my first min pin. thanks to these videos, i feel very ready to start training my dog. so i say thank you mr. letendre for these videos. they are helping not only my knowledge, but my confidence in being a first time owner.

  • Thanks buddy I really find these videos helpful.

  • Love the video. Glad to learn how to call my dog. I thought I had to be strong and fierce to be a leader and it just isn't my style. I wondered why when I called my toy poodle the labrador always came running. I guess it was because I bent down and called softly. I figured I couldn't train my new Lab. You are great. Thanks so much.

  • CAN so one help me please this is my problem: hey my name is belma and i just got a puppy her name is mala and she wont sleep well she will but in the middle of the night like at three of four on the morning she wakes up and i let her go do he bussines and then she wont go back to sleep and when i make her go back in her cage she crys what do i do?

  • exercise to exhaustion!

  • Hard play in the evening, take away water 1 1/2-2 hrs before bedtime. Take her out to pee when she cries, after that ignore her cries. It only took 2-3 nights for my puppy to stop crying to get out. She stays quiet when I put her in her crate.

  • Very nice video. Thank you!

  • hey my name is belma and i just got a puppy her name is mala and she wont sleep well she will but in the middle of the night like at three of four on the morning she wakes up and i let her go do he bussines and then she wont go back to sleep and when i make her go back in her cage she crys what do i do?

  • bandb u should get ur dog stoned then it will fall a sleep just do it once or twice if u want do it as many times as wantn if ne one finds it offencive im jokeing

  • Even though your post is 10 months old, your problem is an obvious one (At least to an experienced owner such as myself). Your puppy will continue to cry for most of her crating time (Especially at night when she doesn't notice any human activity),for most likely no more than One Week. This is perfectly normal,& it is the result of nothing more than her being homesick due to having just separated from her littermates. Every Puppy I've had has gone through the same process, just like Baby children!

  • Another excellent video, Eric. Thanks!

  • I tried the command for coming back with my boxer dog.

    And it worked...

  • what about discipline. I have a rott mix and he wont stop dojng certain things like pee on the carpet or chewing on certain things what can i do to fix this I dont want to hit him.

  • How much exercise do you give your dog? The chewing/peeing thing could be a result of lack of exercise which can cause boredom and result in destructive chewing and maybe peeing. Lots of exercise, maybe having your dog perform tasks like pulling tires (check with your vet first for physical problems and get a pulling harness, they're available for about 40 bucks) or exercise on a treadmill may help your dog blow off some steam and not resort to chewing. Chew toys can help out, too.

  • Are their commands when you want your dog in deffense drive? What about supressing the prey drive, such as chasing bikes and cars (which is dangerous for the human and the dog)? Can the prey drive be supressed on command, so that they don't get into a "never plays" mode? I've seen other dogs get to the point where they simply have little interest in playing because they become too supressed.

  • A few potential Defensive Drive commands I can foresee being necessary are: Heel, Sit, Down, Quiet, Let Go, Drop It, etc. You should obviously do all of these first in Prey Drive, and only when that has been mastered, THEN work on Defensive drive. You should work with a knowledgeable trainer in order to do this however, as Defensive Drive work, especially when done wrong, can cause your dog to lose trust in you. Prey drive work is fun for a dog, whereas Defensive drive work is emotionally rough.

  • "Defensive Drive"? maybe you mean "Pack Drive"?

  • Loved this video, it really explained my dogs reactions and how she always goes into defense when I call her. I'll be sure to use the new method now thanks!

  • Glad you liked it and good luck!

  • Thank You, I consider myself pretty well versed however this never occured to me and I have a Pit Bull who I noticed refuses to come to me when I use my uptight "DEZYL COME HEEERRREEE" he usually wants to retreat and not come but you are right when I act like I am playing he comes right away. Thank You. Love Lacy the human & Dezyl the human in his own mind Pit who is sooooooo precious. Oh and cute and handsome and sweet and AWSOME.

  • Thats some really good advice, I hope everyone is listening to what your saying. Many owners have a hard time understanding this concept of training.

  • Thanks you helped me out so much

  • Excellent video, as always Eric, and very intereting. Thank you!

  • very nice video eric, btw all ur videos are so educative and interesting.thx for all these videos.ramzii

  • What about a dog that likes to be chased?

  • Well, Dogs are not Wolves and Humans are not Chimps. Dogs retain juvenile characteristics of wolves (paedomorphism). They like to play. Normally developed dogs will play, even as adults. Chase is a fun game. Especially if it is accompanied by loud barking from the Human: "HEY! GET BACK HERE!". Fun!

  • Dogs are FAR closer to Wolves however, than Humans are to Chimps.

  • Hey'a Eric. Good visual example of a dogs response to our BL.

  • thanx for the good information

  • always the man

  • very good...when you accept me as a friend? p.s. i love your dogs...i'm italian and i don't speak english very well
