I just bought a winchester Model 97 (Also known as the 1897) I got it from a friend who needed some extra cash and he sold me the gun for only $125 dollars after checkin the serial number i found out it was made in the Mid 1940s. winchester stoped production of the 97s in 1957. So I believe i got quite a collectors Item. Its in pretty good shape. it has a 30 inch barrel with a full choke
@RedneckGodfather $125 is a great price, they're usually in the $400-600 range.
They're not particularly rare but the "Cowboy Action Shooting" guys usually scoop them up as soon as they hit the market so they're not easy to come by.
You'd think that that would drive the price higher but I've never seen a commercial grade go for more then that.
The 30" full choke barrel is stock original for the civilian model. The military and police models were 20"
There isn't any difference in accuracy between a lever action and a bolt action rifle.
Not counting external factors like weather and the skill, accuracy is determined by the barrel length and condition, the caliber and shape of the bullet and the powder charge behind it.
Since there's no bolt moving during the discharge, single shots are inherently more accurate then semi-autos.
all the energy of the powder goes into pushing the projectile down the barrel and there's no bolt kicking back.
that is a beautiful shotgun. I want one. I would never shoot it though. I already have enough shotguns. I love my 1300s but that would be a prize possession.
Just so you know, not sure if this stood true into the 40's, but the sights aren't marked 32 special....They are marbles semi-buck horn sighs with the adjustable insert. I dont know. I only have one restored winnie 94 in 32 special from 1910 restored. I collect marlins. Not winchesters.
It's a great hunting rifle for the woods,It's easy to carry and it's quick to the shoulder. I personally wouldn't use it for shots over 100 yards, but the slug is plenty heavy enough for that range. I just wish I could use it legally here. Rhode Island Is Black Powder and Shot Gun only.

can the 97's fire most modern 2 3/4" shells?
m91nagant 1 year ago
@m91nagant Yes, you can use 2 3/4 shells in an 1897.
If you measure a 2 3/4" shell, it's actually only 2 1/2".

@Marcucco can you shoot low and high brass?
m91nagant 1 year ago
@m91nagant Low brass, high brass, and even full brass.
The full brass make a cool noise when they eject and land.

There's a lot of them out there, you may have to search a little to find the one you want, but you'll find it.
Working commercial versions you can safely shoot run about $400-500.
Remember, these are designed to only fire 2 3/4" shells

winchester .32 special is a very nice firearm, not too bad kick, just a bit small than a 30-06 (well kinda)
airsoftlamblover 2 years ago
The 32 doesn't have the range of the 30'06, but inside of 150 yards, the 32 will stop anything you're going to run into in the lower 48 states.

Very informative video. Just curious, what is the capacity for the .30-06 model 70? Thanks.
