Thank you so much for this reminder and for putting things into perspective. This was very touching and it reminds me (and hopefully everyone else) to continue to work to be a positive example in the world and to spread the kind of love that we all deserve.
First of all, I love this story :-) It's so amazing the strength that people can show when they are put in extraordinary situations.
Also, I don't know if you read all of the comments on your blog, but I would love to write to you, Ms. Perrette. (If you don't mind fan mail that is.) Is there any way I can get a P.O. Box address or something that I can reach you at?

This is a current injustice being done in our society and Yet nothing from the Hollywood elite. Makes me think your part of it.

Next thing you'll say is I don't project but that my friend is a Lie.
@rwPov Let me apologize for my last post, I realize it might be to deep for you to understand. let me make it pure and simple..The very thing the Leftist Hollywood Elite Spew about, is exactly the Truth about them selves. They call everyone who doesn't agree with them "hateful yelling bigots" when in truth that's what they are I see it. You can't see cause your want to be coddled into a false sense of who you are.that's fine to each it's own.
We do have a long ways to go. If anyone thinks that this is a black/white problem should travel around the world. It really is a human thing. We tend to hate others for their differences. It is our weakness. Maybe one day, but not today.
This reaction is for youre other vid about helping people. You made a 14 year old boy crying here, because i live in a kind of hell, but i did risk my life many times to help other people. And every night i am crying at my room, because nobody helps me.
Never heard of her but I sure want to learn more about her! To google I go! Thanks for posting about this on Twitter...may have never heard of her had you not! Hugs and God bless!
If a white person lived down in africa generation after generation, their descendants would be black too. The farther north you go, the paler people are (usually), the farther south, the darker.
Ah, Ruby is sooo sweet! I once did a project on her in school. And, I got to meet her! She is so awesome, and she still lives in New Orleans! Awesome, thanks for posting, Pauley!
Bless Ruby & her family for pushing for there rights as "ANYONE" deserves, heart & soul... This broke my heart to watch such pAiNfUl situations as this... May we all love one another & understand that KNOW ONE should ever be judged for there color/race... May we keep peace & appreciate everyone for whom they are, NOT what a person may desire... "Brightest blessings to one & ALL"!!!
I saw a movie about her. When she walked through that crowd and they showed all those people screaming evil things at this poor little girl...I just fell apart. I can't believe adults could be so cruel to someone so small.
I'm from New Orleans, and I may not have been alive at that time. Although I have felt the fear that comes from racism. I commend that little girl, I have lived in the light of racism and prejudice. You are amazing for commenting about this, and I too feel we have a long way to go. I still personally find myself fighting the anxiety of not knowing if this could be the day when the people that hate me really do hurt me, or if it will be another day of fear. So thank you for speaking up.
I didn't see the CBS news, but now I wish I did. What a brave little girl- just, wow! I wish I could be like her. Thanks for posting this Pauley, your a really good person and you can always the best things going on in the world and that is a great gift. Bless!
Wow, what a brave little girl. Also I would like to thank you for your it gets better video, comments were disabled so I couldn't thank you there but thank you so much. God bless you.
Thank you for posting this. I had never heard of her until now. Her story echoes others I'm more familiar with from Northern Ireland- it's amazing how much people can hate even little kids.
Pauley you are amazing. You have the ear of most of the next generation from your TV appearances and you uses it in the best way possible. You are my hero and when, not if, I become the writer I want to be I will follow in your footsteps if the world does get your message by then. And that is a promise.
And let's keep moving! You are such an inspiration, thanks to you and the rest of the cast of NCIS I managed to quit smoking and lose a lot of weight. Sweden loves you!
Dear Pauley, you have so right. There is really a long way mankind has to walk, till abandon, their racism and their narrow view of matter. We no longer live in the dark age.
That little girl is an inspteation to us all. Just as you are an inspteation. You help people see the world through new eyes. I am proud to share this world with someone like you.
That is tremendously brave for a child. It makes me angrier at the girls who called me Nazi because two of them were sisters of African descent and their grandparents would've endured this level of hatred. Once, with two teachers there, I told them this, 'You of all people should know how wrong it is to bully someone because of their ancestry, and what's worse, you can't even get it right!'
Proud to be a member of the generation that said "WTF?" to racism. So many changes, so much accomplished, and yet...As you say, Pauley, we've moved so far, and we have a long way to go. Let's keep moving!
I saw the movie about Ruby Bridges. She was really an amazing girl. I don't understand what everyone's problem was with people being different colored. I'm glad that most of us are trying to change that outlook. :) God bless America, black, white, and all colors between. :D :D :D
Pauley, you make me proud not only of being a friend to the underdogs, but proud to be an underdog. proud to be an outcast. proud to stand up and say, "no. this is what's good and this is what's right, and i will not back down or change who i am to fit who you think i should be!"
thank you. thank you for giving me that courage. i'm definitely going to need it in the months and years ahead.
Funny thing when I hear anything about race I always think of that Star Trek episode where there were only two men left from this planet and the only difference between them was the way one was colored white and black opposite to the other. Then I wonder how this word race even applies to a skin pigment. Just an observation, but I think we should get rid of the color part when it comes to describing a, "race" and just put human in front of it, leaving it just that way. Humanity has a long road.
@maxxxxsolo I remember that one. One black on the left side white on the right the other black on the right and white on the left. They killed each other after thet reached their home planet. I'm sounding like a complete geeket.
I can't imagine what that day looked like to a 6 year old child, but it must have been a great feeling of achievement throughout her life. What a brave little girl.
@jtspgs1986 I wish what you say could be true but there still area's like here in the south where I live at is a whole other world. I learned that when I moved from the north. There are many area's here you can't walk or drive through cause of what you are and I can tell you from experience It's not a situation you wanna be in.
@NemesisDragon2007 i disagree, racism is on it's way out. you very rarly hear of a lagitment racism situation. the only one who keep it alive are those who pull the racism-card every ten seconds. is racism gone? no, but it is like i said on it's way out. i figure in about five to ten years, racism will be so little that it will be unoticable.
If you read your bible, read Genesis six. It's a popular story about noah and the ark. What most people don't think about is that after the flood, the only humans left alive were Noah and his wife, Noah's 3 sons and their wives, which meant the population of the earth came from that family. So it doesn''t matter whether you're black, white, hispanic, indian, or any other race, we ALL are descendents of the same family!!! Eric Key
Hundreds and hundreds racist is the word. I'm a tree hugging, liberal, transsexual female that is polyamorous in my sexuality. My grandfather that I never meet and never want even if he was alive was a member of the hated KKK. I hope people one day can live in peace and harmony and love.
All too often, people contort religion into serving hateful purposes. They may appear as sheep on the outside, but they are ravening wolves on the inside. Thank God for Ruby Bridges, Pastor Foreman, John Wesley, Mahatma Ghandi, Siddharta Gautama, Dr. King, Rev. Hensley, Paul, Peter, James, John, Jude, and especially Jesus. As the ULC motto says, "We Are One". There is no rich or poor, Jew or Gentile, male or female, free or bond... all are the same in God's sight.
Here, here! It is very sad though that today, schools have largely become segregated once again. Just look at urban vs suburban. Like you say, we still have a long way to go.
I also saw that report, and even though I am a big ol Okie it really brought tears to my eyes, the hatred expressed by the people outside the school was horrid, I hope we can all continue to move forward, and put ignorance behind us
@damnitw A lot of times children are much more discerning and stronger than what we give them credit for. Also, she wasn't really alone, even before the pastor and his child joined her.
Yes pauley! God bless Pastor Forman! I am also Mathodist and a Norman Rockwell fan. Thank you for this vodeo, she deserves all the respect she can have. yes we have a long way to go still. Thank you.
Thank you, Pauley, for reminding us about the brave move of that little lady!
You are so right when you say that we've come a long way, but we have SUCH a long way to go. I was a teenager at that time, but remember that moment well.
I think we have moved further than we give ourselves credit for. I can remember being in New Orleans in the mid 70s, and the racial tension was so high. In college, I was doing my laundry one evening, and an elderly black man and I were talking. He said that he believes his grandchild will have it so much better because it is hard for people to change, and she will not know the kind of hate he has known. I saw my father change, and I can see cities change. Yes, we have a way to go, but still ...
I teach those little teeny tiny 6 yr olds, and this story is one I share with my class every year...emphasizing not only civil rights, but that THEY can do ANYTHING!
Pauley, thank you for telling us this story. I'm still shocked that so many people have problems with others coming from a different race/color/country then what they consider to be "normal". It's good that the story about Ruby is being told!
It IS getting better with each generation. Everyone MUST know about who Rosa Parks was, and who the original 4 were who sat down at a Woolworth's coffee shop, just wanting to be served coffee as American citizens. Thank you for bringing this up again. It's getting better, but yes... there is still a ways to go.
everyday, everyone, in some way, shape or form deals with hatred & bigotry. Be it weight, height, skin color, religion or sexual orientation. Hatred and intolerance needs to be cured.
We are getting there, but we have quite a long way to go :)
What alot of "white" people don't stop and understand is that if it weren't for us "whites" the african-americans wouldn't be here 2day. I mean COME ON WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!! OUR ancestors kidnapped them and brought them over here from africa against their wills 2 make them slaves which I'm glad that was banned years ago. Thats why their here. If you racist people wanna call them hateful names and cut them down cause of the color of their skin then cut yourselves and your ancestors down 2!!!!!!!!!
Toronto, Canada has segregated its school system - starting with an "Afri-centric" school. The rationale is that the races are better off separate. They also banned "To Kill A Mockingbird" because it was racist (did anyone read it?)
Not only does this reverse the gains in the US Civil Rights Movement and the struggle against Apartheid, but it exposes Canadian "progress" as a lie. Who will Canada's Ruby Bridges be?
@KillerKane0 Talk about Toronto if you wish but please don't lump all Canadians in with what is going on over there.......Alberta has none of those problems with anyone....
i think that the correct form for 'black people' would be affrican american. im not sure though. but i know yoi are a nice person and i know you were saying it in the kindest way possible. i just wanted to let you know that i adore you and all the organizations and charities you help! my favorite one is the noh8 campaign. i also am a biiig ncis fan and your character abby is my fave character! then come mcgee(; please NEVER leave ncis and keep doing good for thr world and people! Bless! <3
Have you seen the movie? It's really, really well done. I must have seen it like five times. It's one of those movies that I just want to rewind and watch again when it ends. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. And thank you for making this video - it's so important to make this story heard!
I know this is gonna sound cheesy but as you were talking Pauley I was thinking, "Huh...Ruby Bridges...Bridges...wow that sweet little girl's last name is Bridges and she's building bridges between hate and acceptance just by being brave enough to do that walk to school every day." I know, I'm a weirdo. But hey, our differences make us the beautiful diverse world that were are right?
Being surrounded by hate just makes love and righteousness stronger we can be bigger and better than the bigots! Bless you Pauley you are making a huge difference in our lives by raising our awareness, really really appreciate it, thank you.
There was a movie made about this. I watched it in high school.
It's sad that even now we (as in the human race) are still fighting and killing and hating other people because of just small things like background, or religion, or sexual orientation.
Thanks for letting people know about this story. I had never heard of Ruby Bridges before, but had heard of many other brave children and young people who stood up to hatred and ignorance just so they could do simple everyday things like go to school or have a meal. I highly recommend that people go to the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, TN. It is important to remember how far we have come, and what we expect was once denied based on skin color.
Hunh I just heard about Ruby on teh News visiting my Gramma today. They actually had Ruby, at the abandoned building, now 59, and they also had Paster Foreman's daughter there too. Foreman passed away in '05. Rockwell's work is called "The problem we all live with" ...... you know what? I think you watched the same news report. x3
As a adopted child I went to a International school abroad. I was the only Asian in a western school in 1980. I know how She felt to be alone with nobody wanting to have anything to do with her. People such as Ruby bridges took the first step for interracial intergration. unlike her I had nobody protecting me from the hate of others.
So true Pauley and so well said. Ruby Bridges, The Little Rock 9. We've moved so far with civil rights, and we still have so far to go with gay/lesbian/trans rights. Why don't we just realize that we are all earthlings...so let's share this planet peacefully, and try to treat each other with love and not hate. xo Love you so much Pauley!
I could not imagine going to a school where white is the only skin color. I would not have a good majority of my friends! Ruby made it possible for me to be friends with these people and sit next to them in class. She truly is one of my heros.
i didn't know about Ruby Bridges. sounds brave. i was afraid to walk to school with noone watching lol i can't imagine a mass of psychos like that. what is wrong with people it's a little girl!!! sometimes i just can't believe how people can deaththreat a little girl and look themselves in the mirror. same thing today with gays and stuff, it's like they're blind to themselves.

Bravo.
I heard an interview with her about all this last week. Amazing what racism still exists too.

StLouisMan3 1 year ago
I also saw that report, and even though I am a big ol Okie it really brought tears to my eyes, the hatred expressed by the people outside the school was horrid, I hope we can all continue to move forward, and put ignorance behind us

@damnitw A lot of times children are much more discerning and stronger than what we give them credit for. Also, she wasn't really alone, even before the pastor and his child joined her.

Thank you, Pauley, for reminding us about the brave move of that little lady!
You are so right when you say that we've come a long way, but we have SUCH a long way to go. I was a teenager at that time, but remember that moment well.
Spoonplayer25 1 year ago
I think we have moved further than we give ourselves credit for. I can remember being in New Orleans in the mid 70s, and the racial tension was so high. In college, I was doing my laundry one evening, and an elderly black man and I were talking. He said that he believes his grandchild will have it so much better because it is hard for people to change, and she will not know the kind of hate he has known. I saw my father change, and I can see cities change. Yes, we have a way to go, but still ...

I Used To Watch The Ruby Bridges Movie In Elementary School Every Year, So Amazing<3
booalley123 1 year ago
Toronto, Canada has segregated its school system - starting with an "Afri-centric" school. The rationale is that the races are better off separate. They also banned "To Kill A Mockingbird" because it was racist (did anyone read it?)
Not only does this reverse the gains in the US Civil Rights Movement and the struggle against Apartheid, but it exposes Canadian "progress" as a lie. Who will Canada's Ruby Bridges be?
KillerKane0 1 year ago
@KillerKane0 Talk about Toronto if you wish but please don't lump all Canadians in with what is going on over there.......Alberta has none of those problems with anyone....

I was 3 yrs old at that time and yes we have come a long way but unfortunately willful ignorance still prevails. Sad!

YumiwuvsYAOI 1 year ago
