can someone (the uploader) please explain us the mystery of his reading? I'd really want to understand this problem... for sure it's a "fast" reading, ultra fast I have to say, but even in this case: he stopped reading when he was almost 50 I understood: he started when he was 2? btw this means also a LOT of time to dedicate... the whole day, for years and years, fast reading and no other activities. I'm shocked they didnt' ask him for clarifications

150,000 Books and he read all of them?!? He lived to be 58 years old, but said he stopped reading 10 years ago and this was recorded 5 years before he died. Lets say he started reading at age 5. That would mean he read 10.8 books a day for his entire life. If each book averaged 200 pages and he read for 12 hours a day, that would be one page every twenty seconds. Not impossible, but doubtful. He'd have to read and absorb 100 times faster than he talks! that's for sure!
@tybrady64 - i thought lot of times about numbers! - then it occured to me that when i was in 1st standard it took me year to finish my text book - now i can finish that book hardly in an hour. @jagara1 He says that you shouldn't rely on material possessions for joy or well-being, not that you shouldn't have them at all. He's said asceticism is a load of nonsense.
@dangel6667 What objection have you to make against his spirituality? As an atheist myself, I find him just as wise as I could imagine any of his 'followers' do.
He doesn't associate himself with one particular faith or philosophy - he believes in truth in the same sense as fate. Of course, these are primarily my interpretations.
No, He was not Atheist. In those remarks he is arguing regarding the God of religions.
"Man has lived under this impression of God as a person, and then two calamities have happened through it. One is the so-called religious man, who thinks God is somewhere above in the sky and you have to praise him. to persuade him to confer favors on you, to help you to fulfill your desires, to make your ambitions succeed, to give you the wealth of this world AND of the other world. .....
...... And this is sheer wastage of time and energy. And on the opposite pole the people who saw the stupidity of it all became atheists; they started denying the existence of God. They were right in a sense, but they were also wrong. They started denying not only the personality of God, they started to deny even the experience of God."
You are Wrong,Osho says I dont Believe in God,But I Know God Exist.
Osho – I was in a big city. Some young men came there to meet me. They started asking: “Do you believe in God?” I said: “No. What relation is there between belief and God? I know God.”
Osho: Truth is God.God is not a person. He is what He is. And the thought of believing in God has also created a lot of misunderstanding.
Belief is a supporter of ignorance and ignorance is a sin.
he does state that god doesn't exist.. but what he means is that there is no deity in the form of a man.. there is no God.. but there is "Godliness"... meaning there is no living deity, but there is a way of the world in how it exists which makes it feel like there is Godliness to it.
@ElFatiha7 Dont think so much.... And we are all a part of this world and have the right to have our belivings in god, in human s and so on..... but act as your heart tell s your without hatring, go with knowles of a good heart and mind...
I agree with Osho. 'The Brothers Karamazov' is for me, a work of prophetic genius that bores deep into the ultimate essence of human nature. I consider Doestoevsky to be a prophet.
@freaksurfer016 your pastor and priest does the exact same thing and most of you follow without doubt or question. Most of the garbage you have been fed comes from a book. The Bible!
Dude, the number of books must be wrong, it's phisical imposible to read 150,000, a person can read 300 books in a year for example, so aprox. to read 1,000 it would take 30 years. So to read 10,000 it would take 30 years. So a person of 60 years old would read 20,000 books in all his life, and 30,000 books if he was 90 years old.
So what the fuck are we talking about !!!!. Aren´t they 15,000 books instead of 150,000 ?????
i didnt like this .. because he says that reading a thousand and something books have made him get his own truth from philosophers. so then hes just telling people his knowledge that hes learned from books written by simple normal philosophers.?? this killed everything man i thought he was genius
@freaksurfer016 He's just collected data from various books like upanishads.etc and has applied his own intellect and thus provided his own evolutionary interpretation.....
@freaksurfer016 He didn't say he got his truth from books, he said he read books for no other purpose than for enjoyment. His genius isn't his knowledge for knowledge is simply words and ideas regurgitated from others, passed down through the ages, refined further and passed down again. His genius is in his being awake, conscious of his center, of what he is and what he is not.
I have also devoted a great portion of my time to reading, but unlike Osho I have given many books away. I cannot honestly say how many books I have read but it is not in the hundreds of thousands, not even in the tens of thousands. Not even close, but it has been a pleasure to read every one.
How is possible to read 150 000 books? He died 58 years old. That means that he could begin to read when he was 4, he stopped 10 years before death... That means about 44years for reading... So 44*365=16060 days... So that means 10books for a day? I dont want to seem suspicious, but you know... Any Ideas??????
Ken Wilber used to read about 10 a day, but he also writes. Only so many hours in a day! LOL It must be possible. I'm glad to hear him speak so highly of Dostoy.

And not the floor nor the ceiling, nor walls, nor cases are plated with gold. I thought wisdom and truth needed to be plated in gold and made off limits to normal people. Was the Vatican full of it? What gives? ;)
I think he lied, so rare. It is not possible to read 150 000 books. Maybe read from, but the whole book? If you live to be 75 years old that is only 27,375 days. For this a person would have to be reading nonstop from his birth until death at 75 years old, more than 5 books a day? (and this is assuming he was born reading from the first second he saw the light of the world)
Onece hi said that he hadn'd learn anythig, but just know and act on instinct. WOW! How much he had to read before he came to the conclusion that he didn't learn anything!
If you ever want to do some serious reading, start with the great Russians. They cover the complete psychological and social spectrum of belles lettres style.
My sheer luck, and I speak from experience here, was that I first started reading Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy and once I had exhausted most of their work, I felt that reading any other fictional book would be a waste of time (saved me from reading tens of thousands of books like Osho).
how come the great english writers and americans are no match? why do you think so ? im not arguing, im asking, is it because russians had a more complicated social structure?
The Russians just ruled. Brothers Karamzov was perfect. I think it has to do with the way that the Russians explored ideas. There just weren't any writers elsewhere who were questioning the status quo in such a revolutionary way at the time. That being said im sure was plenty of bad writing coming out of Russian also it just happens to be forgotten amongst Tolstoy and Dostoevsky.
It is great to read books from intelligent people. What shall we do who have a vast intellect? We love input for our minds. If I do not read for a longer time I get upset.
I am not sure if he has really read all the book from cover to cover. and if the proclamation that :"I am the most educated person in the world" is really without any ego. I really like his book on Laozi, though I'm a HK Chinese, i find his book more understandable than ancient chinese script. However, if he really attained the Tao, or enlightenment or found God many years ago, I don't why he would bother reading the views of so many dirived thought if he's found the Source. anyway, like hisbook
Because he acknowledges there is no such point and you can never stop changing and never stop to attempt to change yourself. He reads then as you can never have enough insight or knowledge
i dont think he ever mention he found god. He is talking about every thing and nothing he said in one part he found his truth (he does not say he found his truth after reading these books) but you can see its his knowledge he talks about. i dont know much about osho but i only know that he always speaks truth about humman. i dont beleive in god but stil i like this man very much because he had dare to speak the truth which can upset many people
well i really like this guy...but is it possible to read 150000 books? if we consider the life span of a person and lets say the he read 1 book per day.. 60(years) x 365= 21900(books with daily reading during 60 years..) he needs to be 400 years old dude...
I dont know if he read all of the books, I think hes more of a collector. when i was young I loved the sight of books but I did not read them. Now that Im older I love to read, but the sight of them still captivates me.
i have been to the library. it is extraordinary. it is well known he would plow through 3-4-5 books a day. he would flip through the pages in speed reading as he had been reading since he was a little boy. if you want to learn more, get his book 'autobiography of a spiritually misunderstood mystic' classic read.
I would never think of something like this - to verify if what he says is true or not, but when I read your comment, I understood that he meant something else by "read": maybe he didn't read all of the pages, but enough for him to understand that book.
he is an enlightened man...his name is osho and u can say he was god...actually he is a spiritual teacher who teaches this world the spirituality...n how to turn your life from misery to miracle
i really dont think there is be another like him in this world. I presonally think in 200 to 300 years he will be amoung the enlightened men in the human kind like buddha, jesus, nanak...
He is unbelievable. I don't think there ever was or will be someone like him. In the eighties he was very famous and notorious (many people were scares of him). He must be an incarnation of God (who paradoxicaly doesn't exist). Mind blowing.
150,000 books... He's read all of them? To read that in, say, 50 years that's over 8 books a day! Eh... He probably meant he's just read the covers only.
I dunno, I worked in his personal library taking care of those books for several months back in the late 90s. I was pretty amazed (and very much enjoyed) seeing that so many of them had dots next to key segments... he highlighted them with dots. There were a lot of dots in that collection.
Read, read and read. Study, study and study. Until, you don't need to study anymore. Very, very refreshing answer to the latent Zen, anti-conceptualism which still floats in my mind at least.
He is one of the most intelligent persons in 2o th century. It will take generations to find such a soul full with original thinking and interpretations of all knowledge, in the world today be it science, religion, philosophy or any politics, psychology, Buddhism, Jainism, Islam, Bible. You name any he will have authentic opinion of anything under the sun.He tells the Truth and Truth is bitter
He must've been very dangerous man. He was arrested in the USA and poisoned while he was in jail. In one of His talks He calls USA a fascist country. USA, the church, was perceptive in a way that his ideas carry truth and that they are potent. USA is the biggest criminal country in the world!

For this a person would have to be reading nonstop from his birth until death at 75 years old, more than 5 books a day? (and this is assuming he was born reading from the first second he saw the light of the world)

He is right and knows what he is talking about.
If you ever want to do some serious reading, start with the great Russians. They cover the complete psychological and social spectrum of belles lettres style.
My sheer luck, and I speak from experience here, was that I first started reading Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy and once I had exhausted most of their work, I felt that reading any other fictional book would be a waste of time (saved me from reading tens of thousands of books like Osho).
asc3asc3asc 2 years ago
how come the great english writers and americans are no match? why do you think so ? im not arguing, im asking, is it because russians had a more complicated social structure?
killintymm 1 year ago
@killintymm

If I do not read for a longer time I get upset.

mrranamann 2 years ago
I am not sure if he has really read all the book from cover to cover. and if the proclamation that :"I am the most educated person in the world" is really without any ego. I really like his book on Laozi, though I'm a HK Chinese, i find his book more understandable than ancient chinese script. However, if he really attained the Tao, or enlightenment or found God many years ago, I don't why he would bother reading the views of so many dirived thought if he's found the Source. anyway, like hisbook
naldchow 2 years ago

60(years) x 365= 21900(books with daily reading during 60 years..) he needs to be 400 years old dude...

i have been to the library. it is extraordinary. it is well known he would plow through 3-4-5 books a day. he would flip through the pages in speed reading as he had been reading since he was a little boy. if you want to learn more, get his book 'autobiography of a spiritually misunderstood mystic' classic read.

I would never think of something like this - to verify if what he says is true or not, but when I read your comment, I understood that he meant something else by "read": maybe he didn't read all of the pages, but enough for him to understand that book.

Invincible321 2 years ago
I dunno, I worked in his personal library taking care of those books for several months back in the late 90s. I was pretty amazed (and very much enjoyed) seeing that so many of them had dots next to key segments... he highlighted them with dots. There were a lot of dots in that collection.

Read, read and read. Study, study and study. Until, you don't need to study anymore. Very, very refreshing answer to the latent Zen, anti-conceptualism which still floats in my mind at least.
