the movie is not about infertility or a sci fi action flick. The plot doesn't even matter at all, that is why some critics and dumb-asses who cant think for themselves don't get it. It doesn't force feed information into you, its not a film about setting or time, but a film about emotions, the whole film comes together with the yarn of one's own heart when the scene goes black and tries to string together whatever kind of humanity that is within you. It's not universal film to me its personal.

this is easily one of the best movies of the decade. the scene where they rolls royce into the the high security palace with the "crimson king" playing is probably my favorite scene of the decade. the giant greek statue... so much to like about this film, it's a masterpiece

iam an very frequent movie "watcher" and i´ev done that science i was a little child, trust me i know about movies, I say that not in a purpose of bragging, but this movie directly hit me hard and i could not stop watching it any way in the end of the movie i put this movie on the top of my favorite movies and i was sooooooooooo choked when i found out that "Iron Man" had higher ratings in IMDB only after first or second week, so i agree with you this is the MOST UNDERRATED MOVIE EVVVVEEERRR !!

This was the first movie i've seen in a long time that hit me hard and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The last movie to do that for me was Saving Private Ryan. I too think that this movie is way underated and underwatched.

But although being not very scientificly feasible, the backstory sure provides a brilliant and provocative topic to think of - Cliwe Owen's line sumed it up really well : "Ever since women aren't able to have babys, what's left to hope for ?" How would humans behave in such a hopeless, pesimistically driven world ? That's the question...

First, AIDS/STD rates would, at least briefly, go up because some people would feel emboldened about having unprotected sex. The entire enterprise that makes its money selling to children would collapse. School workers, from the janitor on up, would have to find other work. Would this result in the whole world turning into Beirut? I don't think so. As everyone got older, they'd be less interested.

Well, the idea of mankind losing fertility completely is really just too exagerated. Don't blame the film for the strange main theme, it just follows the eponymous book, that it is based on, written in 1992 by british author P. D. James (known mostly for her detective stories).

"Some people somewhere in the world would most likely be immune to whatever microbe comes at them". Yes, and as we know some people are immune to AIDS, too. But that's not the point of the film. The movie is about the loss of innocence, not of fertility. It tries to say something about the modern world.

IMO it's the best film of 2006.

uh no... when the baby comes out it is obvious it's CGI; babies that young (newborns) are pretty much NEVER shown on screen-- watch any older movie, the "newborns" are usually 3-4 months old

Amazing flick. I like how even though there are no more children and no hope for humanity we're still waging war and killing one another. There are a decent number of laughs in this movie even though it is as bleak a film as it is.
