@dsquaredsqrd um sir, read the comments. I just stated my opinion and clearly the other guy started arguing with me out of nowhere. No really, just because im saying something doesn't mean its right but neither does your invalid comment.
"It certainly isn't original and it certainly is dumb if you actually believe they made a 2 hour long score all alone. " I don't see how that's dumb. Normally it's one person who composes the score for a movie, so I don't see how believing that 2 very musically talented people could write one. " Its like saying Im a student filmmaker who becomes a blockbuster film director just like that" how is it even remotely similar? Daft Punk have been winning awards for their music for over a decade.
I hear them talking... a certain race (ethnic group) came together? And knows this other race (ethnic group)? I know, they are nice arent they? They always hated the Jeusian (Jews) anyways and said they were filthy rich lol. And wanted to steal their gold.
They are nice till you see their intentions. I dont like any of them.

for some reason i imagine the 'horn' sounds (that "BUUUUUUMMMM!!!" noise) is the recognizer's horn. like, 'BUUUUUMMMM!!! get out the way, we got a rouge program to pick up!'
Daft Punk was totally snubbed. I'm not sure if I liked their work or NIN's better that year, but both scores were the best, with Inception in a close 3rd.
As that first scare cord hits and you can *feel* how deep of shit Sam's in...The film itself can be a little lacking, leaving so many more questions than answers, but the soundtrack...Guy-Manuel and Thomas freaking outdid themselves!
it would also explain why district 9 didn't win film of the year...... they gave it to the fucking hurt locker, not a bad movie but is a piece of shit when compare to district 9
tron didn't win best original score because big budget genre movies NEVER win anything. why? all of the critics who vote on who the oscar goes to are old leftovers of the baby boom generation who didn't grow up with the same kind of movies we did and have a bias against anything that threatens their small and frankly thin spectrum of film archetypes they like, anything out side of that, they feel disjointed and disinterested and sometimes even afraid. so FUCK THE OSCARS and don't watch them
@skyguy15 "At least the oscars don't go to twilight films..." What do you expect from so-called "music television"(aka MTV)? That network fell to Shit in the early 90's when the "new" management decided they were Only going to cater to brainless, airheaded, Stupid girls between the ages of 12 thru 22. @tarth74 You're a fucking idiot. Some of the most commercially successful movies of all time have also been the biggest winners at the Oscars. They just aren't impressed with flashy movies that have no substance.

NOTHING you know what did clean up at the oscars that year? the hurt locker, why? the old pricks didn't care about a scifi movie and chose a half decent war movie over a genuinely clever metaphor about totally relevant themes.
@tarth74 I wouldn't say the Oscars never allow big budget movies to win. Lord of the Rings won a great deal of awards, especially Return of the King winning 11 out of the 11 awards it was nominated for.
But I have to agree that this movie should of won best soundtrack.
@KayleLang when the lord of the rings was THE very first time a genre movie was accepted, that's because it was within the spectrum of stuff the oscar judges liked because they themselves grew up with the lord of the rings(that's the most likely reason)
@tarth74 again the reason why it was not nominated was because other composers helped them create and piece together the score. This was Daft Punks first film score composition and I am pretty sure they could not do this on their own. If you listen closely, you can hear some of Hans Zimmers work in here as well as Henry Gregson Williams, both composers who helped them create the score as it was also mentioned in the ending credits of the movie.
@davedirector7 the score it self should have gotten recognition, I'm not saying daft punk specifically, I'm well aware that multiple people worked on it besides daft punk, it happens all the time, tons of people collaborate when creating a film score, hans zimmer collaborated with james newton howard on the score for sherlock holmes and THAT was nominated for best score.
@davedirector7 Umm no, wrong. This score was original recording mixed with electronic and was composed by daft punk. themselves. no zimmer, no gregson-willaims. While they may have heavily influenced the way daft punk wrote the score, daft punk wrote it and i can't find anything substantial that suggest Zimmer or Gregson-Williams were involved in any way.
@sunset261 right cause these guys who have never done a film composition before pulled this off. A nearly two hour long film score. You can't jump from being a mainstream music artist to becoming a film composer just like that. Score composition is very, very difficult. You don't take credit in a film for "influencing" people. Daft Punk said themselves that they had gone to these composers for help on the film. If you seriously thought they did it ALL alone, think again.
@sunset261 also there is rarely anything"original" about hollywood anymore. There is absolutely no way Daft Punk should be credited for the entirety of the work here. It certainly isn't original and it certainly is dumb if you actually believe they made a 2 hour long score all alone. Its like saying Im a student filmmaker who becomes a blockbuster film director just like that
@davedirector7 "Daft Punk said themselves that they had gone to these composers for help on the film." they went to these composers essentially for advice on how to compose a score for movies. However, those composers had no hand in actually writing the score so I don't see why the work shouldn't bee credited to daft punk.
@sunset261 there we go, my point proven. Composers didn't give a hand in writing the score but asking for advice, and many of these composers btw did show them techniques on how to make one. You don't see many film composers asking for help and winning an oscar now do you? Ex: John Williams-man is a genius and he did work all on his own and did his own research. Which is going back to my comment which is why Daft Punk was not nominated.
@davedirector7 they asked for advice on how to compose scores for films in general, they weren't getting advice on what specifically they should do for tron legacy. John Williams doesn't need lessons because he's done it a great many times. Should we automatically disqualify all composers now because they all have had composition lessons at sometime in their life? John Williams learned composition from other established composers, why should daft punk not be able to do the same?
@sunset261 John Williams undertook lessons, never asked any other composer for help. Also, you think Daft Punk only asked what they should do generally? Nope, think again. Without the help of other composers, there is absolutely no way would they have come out with something sounding so extraordinary. John Williams is a composer for films from the beginning. Daft Punk are music artists. Two very very different aspects
@sunset261 Hans Zimmer helped them with the score. Simple as that. Without him or other composers there is no way Daft Punk wouldve succeeded with this score. If you also think that Zimmer only gave general knowledge think again. Both Zimmer and Punk use very similar techniques in generating their music. Electronically. No one said disqualifying composers because they've had lessons. I'm stating that this is a reason why Punk was not nominated.
@davedirector7 "because it is so damn obvious what the answer is. " yes the answer is that daft punk still deserved to be nominated whether or not they got some tips on score composition from other composers because it's still their composition and nobody else had a hand in it.
@davedirector7 What about the track in A New Hope (one of the scenes on Tatooine) which Williams admitted he virtually lifted from The Rite of Spring (due to hearing the temp track)?

@davedirector7 the score it self should have gotten recognition, I'm not saying daft punk specifically, I'm well aware that multiple people worked on it besides daft punk, it happens all the time, tons of people collaborate when creating a film score, hans zimmer collaborated with james newton howard on the score for sherlock holmes and THAT was nominated for best score.

@tarth74 as i mentioned, Zimmer and Howards score was completely original, if Daft Punk's score is entirely original then my father is Chuck Norris

John Williams learned composition from other established composers, why should daft punk not be able to do the same?
sunset261 1 month ago

@sunset261 also, idk why you are making this a huge deal because it is so damn obvious what the answer is.

Weewokk 1 month ago
@Weewokk hmmmm good point there. Idk much about Williams work there but if he did then alas, no one is perfect lol
