Well Rome: Total War came out in 2004

Time Commanders started in 2003

The designer of Rome: Total War designed the senerios for Time Commanders thats why it's nearly the same graphes

Even Time Commanders have said it's not Rome: Total War

I've seen game with same graphes, I saw that Time Commanders used another game with the same graphes but it wasn't Rome: Total War to do the show.

They deliberately picked people who had no previous gaming experience what so ever ; this is what often resulted in the horrendously bad desiscion making - although there was one occasion where they had a team of 4 gamers - and they got there ass handed to them (probably due to arguements)

It wasnt the Scipii that fought the battle of Teutburg Forest it was the Julli/ Jullius Ceaser

Plus, there weren't just 3 factions (patrician families) in rome and although each had it's banner or symbol, a legion was a legion with their unique insignia.

I've never played shogun so I don't know.

Rome is the best and most balanced. Sophisticated campaign (micromanage, diverse religions, and benefits), good real time battles, and if you're a Roman, civil war. Downside of real battle is the AI is not aggressive and you can shoot them to death easily.

Medieval 2 has a simplified campaign; not really fun as Rome. However, battles are much more fun, slightly better AI. Also, you got guns.

@MTCoblivsicas12345 I played both of them. Frankly, the battle is kind of .... boring. Battle are typically linear and whoever got the most fire power wins. Nothing stand against the musket. Cavalry has fairly small role.

And campaign is simplified way too much.

Well, they didn't exactly lie. The engine etc is from Rome:TW, but they're running a modified version in terms of troop capabilities, morale system and other factors that you can't actually see per se.

As for Total War, you'll have to wait. RIght now, they're working on Shogun 2, which is imo great, given the Shogun began the entire series more than a decade ago (the troops in Shogun are actually 2D sprites!) and is still a great game.

@photonbombzx I won the battle on Hard difficulty by concentrating the army in a defensive position and by not letting the Roman cavalry slip away chasing the germans. But then again, I knew they were coming. Varus did not.

as soon as the germans emerge from the woods, form a back to back defensive position and dont mind the arrows raining down on you until their infantry is almost fully engaged. Then use cavalry to charge their sides. Concentrate forces so the head and rear of the column do not get separated. If u succeed to rout some germans, reposition. DO NOT CHASE THEM! Use cavalry then to rout archers in the woods. AGAIN DO NOT CHASE THEM! Hold your ground and eventually roman discipline will prevail.
