  • What do you think happened afterward? Did he take on the new flesh and destroy Videodrome?

  • What's the new flesh what is that really.

  • The ending kind of confused me until I read how Cronenberg’s original intention was to continue the film beyond when Max does you know what (do not want to ruin the ending if anyone scrolls down before the end). It would end with Max and Nicki on the ‘Videodrome’ set hugging and kissing.

  • I saw this back in 96 when i was 15 after being a Cronenberg fan since i saw The Fly in theaters at 5 and this blew me away. This film is like a combo of 8MM, Hostel, Philip K. Dick, Total Recall and Ichi The Killer all rolled in one, this is one of the original torture porn films. Such directors like Eli Roth and others are huge fans of this movie. I heard Serbian Film is similar to this one, but i'm not seeing that one after all the horrific things i've heard.

  • Is this as far as the discussion on artifice and transhumanism goes in cinema? But we must have more!

  • awsome fucking movie!

  • you know if you were to put um 12345 not 10 9876 when listing them in order it makes it so that when you play the first 1 financial plaza national bison at some place not keep pressing play on the next 1 status play continuously all in a row

  • Ooh piece of intestine, ooh piece of intestine, ooh piece of intestine.

  • in germany it's forbidden to watch this movie

  • I wonder if his new flesh was Hades XD

  • 2:52

the end music is beautiful and sad

  • Needs a sequel, needs a book or something for a true ending.....

  • FUCK I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I HAD A BONER ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT. Cronenberg is a genius. Massive doses of videodrome rots your body, poisons your brain, reality becomes virtual, the new flesh will kill us all!

  • What does "Long Live the New Flesh" mean?

  • @iNvictaStudios The new flesh = death to the cancerous videodrome.

  • Howard Shore used to be such an imaginative composer.

  • by far the weirdest, most disturbing movie i have ever seen in my life. haha

  • Oh christ my monitor just exploded and there are guts everywhere. Thanks alot movie.

  • @bluefeykate Long story short: beware of the TV (media). It lies to you, distracts you, controls you, thinks for you and makes you brainless.

This is as macabre as possible to make its message clear.

  • and its real, people... just as real as this comment. And guess what? Its happening to all of us. Maybe we all have brain tumours now, from watching videodrome :-) Very good movie. Five stars

  • Just finished watching this. What.. a.. trippy movie. SO far ahead of its time. David Conenberg is a genius.

  • ok if my tv did that i'd call an exorcist and a repair man.

  • wut ?

  • People worry too much about the story of this film. They care too much for Max Renn when they should realize how much this film has predicted. Television has been becoming more like Cronenberg's vision. Our perception is dangerous.

  • youtube is the new flesh

  • youtube is the new flesh

  • @rcmontecalvo

    4chan is the new flesh

  • THE INTERNET is the new videodrome. look at how much porn, falseness, lies, distortion and violence is on it. same with tv, same with video games, magazines. porn/silliness/violence,porn/silliness/violence,porn/silliness/violence. it has destroyed us spiritually

  • @mwizard216 Long Live The New Flesh.

  • I dont understand.....

  • Professor Oblivion and Bianca were the real evils! The Professor helped create Videodrome (without the killer brain signal). "He saw it as the next phase in the evolution of man as a technical animal." He was kinda like Jerry Springer, he wants you to watch his filth but doesn't condone it. Convex is like a killer FCC. He doen't want to ban videodrome, he wants to temp you to watch and if you are weak scum he will kill you with it to keep America strong and better than other countries lol

  • That film was deep illuminati symbolism

  • Love it! Such a perfect ending almost makes me cry! Thanks DAHCFDMF!

  • the ending was somehow a reminder of how television and reality have become identical and somewhat undistinguishable.

  • dude, you missed like 9837982 parts of that movie..

  • where's pinhead. At least he's a snappy dresser.

  • The "new flesh" is the extension of the senses via the media. The eyes are the windows of the soul. It spells Doom for all who watch and are 'entertained' by IT. Marshall McLuhan said it long ago now.

  • "The television screen has become the retina of the mind's eye-...the battle for the mind of North America will be fought in the video arena, the videodrome. Whatever appears on the television screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. Therefore television is reality and reality is less than television. Your reality is already half television. After all, there is nothing real outside our perception of reality, is there? The eyes are the windows of the soul."---Videodrome

  • what in the fuck did i just watch!?

  • This David Cronenberg has a dark mind

  • @greatgig412 Thats why he's a good director. Because its working!

  • Long live the new flesh.

  • Is this like a final hallucination programmed into him in order to suicide. There is no actual new flesh right?

  • Is he just being fooled by the programming in the end to commit suicide by being told he will become the new flesh. There is no actual new flesh right?

  • the ending is the inevitable conclusion of our society.

  • @gsx69bun

    correct

  • Movie summation:

    Wait... wait, what?

  • And is this a happy ending?

    I could never tell

  • I still watch VHS, theres something about its primitive picture thats so tangible, so unique, Something a DVD could never reach. The imperfect picture is what makes it special

i wonder if it'll survive through cult patronage once its been totally replaced by the movie disc (or has it already? Has anyone called the 'death of video' officially?)

  • Thank You For Posting;

This reminds me, I need to get a new VCR tape-head cleaner.

    Cheers!

    Valkyrie Ziege Mourne

  • ok. let me get this straight: if he kills off his body,he transforms?is that what his visions tell him? do you guys know what they CLAIM HIS BODY TRANSFORMS TO?

  • new flesh.....obviously..... :P

  • oh.i mean,what would this new flesh look like,theoretically?

  • @waynec38 Cronenberg's typewriter

  • really weird, but what great music

  • ummmm... I don't get it *confused face*

  • Brilliant movie, if they remake it they will ruin it

  • There should be a 20-year moratorium on remakes in the film industry.

  • wow. intense.

hey,but wasn't there a scene where his intestines spill out of him?

  • exactly, what happened to the television full of guts?

  • i just saw a still photo of that but maybe the version of the movie posted here was edited.

  • Dammit I love this movie.

  • This movie was epic.

    Nuff' said.

  • long live the new flesh

    U_U

  • This is my first time seeing Videodrome and i have to admit it's a very good moive a hell of alot better then the shitty horror movies of today

  • yep..the new horror movies blow ass.

  • And you know why they blow ass? Because class actors like James Woods have been pushed to the side in order to make way for a generation of 'beautiful people' in their early to mid twenties who are all clones of one another. James Woods would be a bit player in a modern horror movie and THAT is a fucking TRAVESTY!!!

  • @memokk

Any thoughts on Saw, Inside, Martyrs, Let The Right One In, Ichi The Killer, Final Destination films, etc.?

  • I AGREE THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE A PART 2

  • @RoseBlack09 Most of this movie is missing. It is nearly impossible to see in its full form. I never have, and I knew about it right when it came out.

  • @RoseBlack09

What do you think of Eli Roth's stuff?

  • fantastic film!

    i'm excited for the remake.....

  • their making a remake ?

  • Universal Pictures has given the green light for a remake of David Cronenbergs 1983 movie, Videodrome." The new remake will reportedly take the original films concept, modernize it, infuse it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller

Because of their involvement with the original production, Universal had the right of first refusal on a remake. The studio was apparently very interested in the remake and eagerly signed on.

  • Im confused. were the hallucinations getting so bad that they were becoming real?

  • i wonder if Stephen King knew David Cronenberg

  • first it controlled her mind...then it destroyed her body

  • this movie is weird as hell

  • good ending. Exept, i think they shoulnd't have shown the same scene twice, i think u should've seen amx watching the tv, and hearing, then see the guts coming out of the tv, then shoot himself.

  • Did Mark David Chapman ever watch this movie?

  • Ill never watch TV again.

Wait, is that CNN I hear? (zombie voice) MUST...WATCH...PROPAGANDA....

  • i agree, its a difficult

    hallucination, check out

    the alex harvey band

  • isn't he just hallucinating and doesn't really to kill himself in order to destroy videodrome?

  • that is the question, claytonvon

  • can someone explain to me wtf happened here lol i got lost why does he shoot himself to destroy videodrome?

  • Spoiler: He shoots himself to kill the old flesh in order to transform into the new flesh. This new flesh is the only possible way to completely destroy videodrome.

  • I didnt like it. If you like this type of shit, watch In the Mouth of Madness, now that was a good movie.

  • ok movie but it was int scary.

  • good, i don't think it was meant to be. Don't think of all horror movies as having a "scary" aspect relevant

  • I know. Its just that every on keeps posting "This movie is sooooooooooo scary" I just found some parts creepy but nothing like scary or any thing.

  • This movie is the shittttttttttt

  • I like the classic "WHOEVER SAYS .... HAS NO KNOWLEDGE!!!" argument. It indicates someone's talking utter bollocks themselves.

  • wow.... this movie was awesome.... the effects were kickass at the time and still are pretty cool.

  • firs time seeing this movie and I must say it was awesome!

  • Where is part 1 to 4?Would luv to watch...

  • they are with ricochetguro.

  • then again, i do alot of lsd, so reality has become more of a nuisance than a blessing. sorry if i cant be understood, i barely understand myself.

  • dude you don't have to do LSD to figure that out. Besides it's a little more complex than that. Oy vey.

  • cronenberg was trying to convey that t.v. is rotting the core of us, desensitizing us to death and the horrors that we should fear. we have become slaves to t.v., buying and believing anything they throw in front of us, addicts to the videodrome. if you wanna really get twisted by this flick, drop 2 good hits and try not to get sucked into the cerebral world that is liad in front of you. its all relative to your eyes, i think therefore, it is.

  • Well, not exactly tv, but snuff tv and hard core pornography. These are the "scum" that Convex and clan wanted to eliminate in the "fight for North America." Thus any "scum" who watched Videodrome suffered such an elimination. Bianca O'Blivion programmed Max to destroy Convex and clan, then finally himself to put a final end to Videodrome and its victims.

Very good film - if it is understood by the viewer!

  • You don't seem to understand what the movie was really about, for all your arrogance.

  • If you say so.

  • hey is she just trying to get him to kill himself

  • long live the new flesh, fuckers.

  • fuck yeah

  • For the movies redone as a science show might be nice mr. cronenberg.

  • james woods has pretty eyes

  • O__o why'd I watch this right before bed? *face-palm*

  • long time no see u still on here?

  • ummm...i'd say this is better than A Scanner Darkly, this is deeper on more levels. it's almost like the theatre of the absurd.

  • Yeah, this is alot deeper than A Scanner Darkly. ASD was created for mainstream audiences so it had to be less complex, but I still don't get either one other than they're movies about people tripping. What does this movie mean to everyone who reads this reply?

  • Look don't get me wrong Cronenberg is good, but the author of A Scanner Darkly evolved sci-fi into a completely different entity. While you might have felt the film version of A Scanner Darkly was not complex, the reason they had to do that is because 75% of the audience would have been scratching their heads, saying "WTF?" if they did a complete translation. However, comparing this film to ASD has to be the least accurate thing I have heard. those 2 films have almost nothing in common.

  • "However, comparing this film to ASD has to be the least accurate thing i have heard. Those 2 films have almost nothing in common."

I agree 100% with that, and that's mainly why i say this is better. but this film was more well done than ASD i think. the fact that this was able to be deeper than the adaptation of ASD makes this better, in my opinion.

  • Now that I've had time to think about, the only connection between A Scanner Darkly and Videodrome is that they both have people experiencing hallucinations in them. The impression I get from this now is it is reminiscent of the way that assassins are trained to make them stone cold killers. What does this movie mean? I don't get it.

  • Please don't take what I said as an insult, I just have a difficult time understanding the comparison. I guess you could look at the Video-drome signal as sort of a drug like Substance D.

  • did videodrome make him kill himself

  • Yeah

  • No, it was Bianca O'Blivion. The key - "don't be afraid to let your body die."

  • oh ok

  • how much of the physical changes to peoples bodys was just a halucination?

  • I think all of the changes were hallucination on Max's part.

  • Some of the stuff that happened to him was real

  • Yes, the events were all actual (killing his partners, etc.) - but the changes involving the flesh were hallucinations.

  • yep, videodrome wasn't real, the whole thing was a hallucination.

This is one of the scenarios a schizo might suffer to justify their actions.

  • Debbie Harry looks so different with red hair! She looks nice!

    Luv

    Natasha

    xox

  • okay ... i'm convinced i'm on acid
