hmm.. I feel this is horribly inefficient as far as 'recycling' goes.. you *destroy* what is most likely perfectly working just old equipment (thus losing energy - what went in to making the equipment and using more energy - to shred it.)

when it would be better IMHO to somehow reuse this old equipment - donate it to poorer countries for example. What's wrong with creating more jobs by having people manually *disassemble* E-scrap, especially in the current jobs market.

Just my $0.02 though.

@classicmacintosh we do ewaste as well, most of the stuff we get is obsolete. There's always a home for laptops, lcd screens and other tronics that are current. But nobody wants those huge printers anymore - it is the nature of being a disposable society. Escrap actually creates a lot of jobs.

@epicmatrix101 You have several possibilities to sort the materials out of the mass...for example you put it on a band conveyor and let it pass several "stations"! At first you can get out all the metal things by using magnets, then you can sort the rest by its size and at the end you have everything that has been in your computer sorted!

To invent such systems you need "Recycling Engineers" or (what we call it here in Germany) "Environmental engineering"! I hope I could give you a clear answer

@epicmatrix101 That´s right, but there is also the possibility to use X-Ray for the process! So you can detect nearly every kind of metal! How you can get it out of the big "mass" is another point, but one example is to put all the small things in a row on the feeder an using air pressure at the stations to push the parts away from the feeder in separate boxes after they have been detected! :)
