  • Bob, Do not be afraid to hit the drums,

Its ok to play at a volume over Mezzo Forte.

....Really, I don't think they will break if you really hit them.

I am just getting warmed up.

  • Dear bob you drums sound so damn warm and bright sam sound I love depths warm and tone. Your awsome would love to see u at a drum clinic or something one day in LA thanks for all your help

  • @SmurfDrums310 Thanks so much SD! I might be doing some clinics in January following the NAMM show in Anaheim area.

  • Leave it to Bob Gatzen to have one of the best sounding kits in the league

  • @ryrypaulz BIG thanks ryry... appreciate it more than you know

  • Thanks so much tassos! DW makes a nice mid line drum under the "PDP" line. Better yet ... try looking for a "used" but not abused high end kit ". Happy hunting...let me know how you make out

    Bob

  • hi bob !! i am a new drummer and i want to ask you what drumkit it is good for me(sorry for bad english i am from Greece)...you are realy good drummer !!!

  • Hi Bob, any thoughts about the Kick Port ? Also, I am trying to find info on tuning for large bass drums. I have a 28 and 30 inch bass, hoping to build a 1930s style kit with these! Thanks for your great work!

  • @Helmholtz53 The Kickport has a great reputation! However, not my cup of tea. I embrace simplicity. My first choice is the Evans reso heads. Small, light weight but very effective and adjustable.

  • The bass drum sounds beast! Love your off yet on beat drumming so much man! Keep shredding!

  • I listened to this like a thousand times, Bob. Your drumming is awesome dude! Have a great day.

  • @PossessWithin Thanks big time PW...means more to me than you think!

  • @bobgatzen Bob, please reply if possible! I REALLY would like to know what you think about the "Tama Tension Watch", the drum tuner. I just got one (I'm a new drummer) and I can't tune my drums by ear at all... So I got one of these but I'm not sure if it will work right...? Or even if it is useless. I mean, I couldn't tune my drum with it, but I don't know if it is my fault or its fault. Could you please give me a hand? Thank you very much!

  • Respond to this video.Hi PW... In my opinion the Drum-Dial is the best tuning aid in the industry. The difference between the DD and other tuning aids is it measures actual "surface tension" of the drumhead versus ratchet type devices that measure T-Rod tension only. Both will get you in the ballpark but the Dial is more accurate. However, there is no substitute for ear training. Tuning devices are stepping stones...always best depend solely on your ears.

    Hope this helps

    Bob

  • you sir are a beautiful player!

  • @powerbellrider - thanks so much pb!

  • That floor tom <3

  • i really like the pop in your snare

  • @rob1nat0r Thanks for taking a listen Rob!

  • This isn't normally my thing, but this I must say is pretty excellent...now I just have to make my snare sound like that lol

  • This is awsome Bob! great playing!

  • Hey Bob, I love your videos. Great playing and very informative. I know you're with DW now, but is the snare drum in this video the N&C Alloy Classic 13x6 or 14x6. Thanks Bob, keep up the great work!

  • HELLO MR. GATZEN. I HAVE A QUESTION. IS THERE A WAY YOUR TRACKS CAN BE PURCHASED. I LIKE ALOT OF THE INSPIRING DRUMMING VIDEO TRACKS. THANKS A MILLION!!!!!

  • Nice tasteful playing; beautiful style.

  • @mbiraguy Thanks so much mbria!!... means more to me than you know!

  • right at :20 or :21 you can hear (in my opinion) how perfect his snare is tuned in relation with his upper tom. I LOVE that sound and I try so hard to achieve it on my drums. (so many people try to "dampen" and get rid of the resonance) Once you play with other music or musicians you will WANT that resonance even more. (my opinion) Also he has a way of playing (because of his feel for the instrument) that is very inspiring.

  • I thought you woul play an Attitude Adjustment song xD

  • @johnthegreek178 Hi John...that is Attitude Adjustment...I think!

  • @bobgatzen Hello Bob, actually I'm not a fan of the band, I have only listened to 2-3 songs so... I guess it is. But it doesn't sound to me like crossover thrash. Or maybe we're talking about totallt different things!...?

  • @johnthegreek178 Hi John, I'm not sure what you're referring to...what band?

  • @bobgatzen Hi Bob, Attitude Adjustment was a Crossover Thrash metal band who formed in 1985, disbanded in 1992. I think they reformed somewhen and disbanded again but I'm not sure. Now, if attitude adjustment is something that has to do with the drums (what came into my mind was how to make them sound less echoey or something), then I don't know,I can't play the drums but I find these videos interessting. By the way, something is telling me that I kinda butchered the English language, I'm Greek.

  • @johnthegreek178 I didn't know that. AA is a song I wrote a few years ago. My reference to AA is FOM....Frame Of Mind. Thanks for the info john...let's stay in touch

  • @bobgatzen Nice song you wrote! :D

  • @johnthegreek178 Well thank you John... next to drumming, I love to write music. I'm thinking about taking some guitar lessons... all of us drummers should play a secondary (tonal) instrument. I played vibes and marimba during on college days.

  • @bobgatzen That's great! If you have half your drum skills on guitar (?... I think that doesn't sound right but I hope you get it), you'll become a great guitarist! I'm taking bass lessons soon and I'm very excited!

  • Thanks for the motivation, ur videos are essential parts of sound designing.

I have a lot better understanding on the physic of sound too after watching your DVD. Drum tuning has turned to real fun. With a little practice I can create the desired sound from my drums. I have an idea now about the sound I wanna hear. Do you have any special advice on tuning small size bass drums (e.g. 16" or 18") if I want a tiny bit fatter sound than a jazzy "clong"? What'd be your head choice pls?

    Thanks

  • @perfectmelon Thanks for the kudos P... really appreciate it... you're very welcme

I switch around heads, but currently I'm getting a great sound from my DW 20x17 birch. I'm using a full (no vent) Evans EQ1 Coated, EQ pad inside not touching heads. Batter is an EMAD2 with a new external muffler I designed. This combo will work with just about any style music by moving the EQ pads and extrenal mufflers. Great feel as well.

  • i have a lot of problems with my bass drums. i just can't seem to get that attack sound I'm looking for. i really want a low key, but i want it to attack. its just really hard for me to find that sound.

  • Just had to reply to the pooperscooper dude: stick to what you do best and leave drums to people like Bob. Have fun scooping yourself off the pavement, dude.

  • Hey Bob, I got your DVD, aaand I just gotta say. All of that for 20 bucks!! Massive Massive help so much info on drum tuning your a bloody hero, anyone out there who doesn't have any experience in drum tuning or the know-how, for a fairly low amount of dough you can get close to every scrap of info you could think of it's rediculous, so thanks again Bob u are the man!

  • @rith5 Wow... thanks so much for the kudos rith!. Frankly I get tremendous satisfaction knowing that the hard work is paying off. I've always believed in sharing.

  • Bob, i am wanting to order tom heads. I am seriously looking at EC2 SST's and an EMAD2 with EMAD reso. I am a metal drummer, with influences such as Lamb Of God, Slipknot, and those types. Will this head combo produce the punch and attack needed for the metal style, while still giving me a warm tone and resonant? I really want low end on all my toms, but I wasn't for sure on whether the EC2 SST's would produce that dark tone needed for metal.

    Thanks,

    Cliff

  • @CliffB4 Sound -wise... that's an accurate description. The EC2's are very durable yet still provides a focused sound. However, I'd experiment with the reso heads. Try the Genera-reso and G1 reso on your 12" drum. We often take reso heads for granted. The reso head has so much to do with projection, density in tone and sustain. Let us know how your experiments work out...Bob

  • @bobgatzen does the bass drum sound good if i put 2 batter head on it?

  • @yoshiskato I highly suggest the Evans EMAD2 batter combined with the EMAD-reso.... great BD sound in a minute!

  • I love Bob's style and his total attitude! He seems like a total nice guy and is VERY helpful!

  • @xDeadMisfitsx Thanks so much xD! It's messages like your that keep me motivated and believing in the spirit of the drum!!

  • BOB! which evans heads are gonna get my a warm deep tone on my chinese maple Mapex Pro M's?

  • @worminator82 A good all-around head combo is the new EC2-SST"s with the Genera-reso or for more focus the EC-reso

  • You play really cool men

  • @blackwhite170 Well thank you very much BW....I love playing drums!

  • Hey Bob, is my bass supposed to almost sound like a bass drum?

  • @JakeasarusRex Are you fererring to Bass guitar? If so... not necessary to duplicate a bass drum sound. However, you might consider shortening "sustain" that works nicely with the BD character.

  • @JakeasarusRex No, no, sorry. I meant floor tom. I have a 16", and I don't know how much I should muffle it.

  • In this "Jazz" style format I'm constantly "feathering" the bass drum. The idea is to create a cohesive sound by equally balancing the BD, Cym, Tom, Snr. If it were "funk" for instance, it would be a completely different sound recipe.

  • good performance for this style of music, but did he touch the bass drum at all? O.o

  • Well thank you very much 5555. I believe in sharing with people... always have, always will

  • Not only are you're videos fun to watch, and informal, but you just seem like a really good overall guy, happy drumming!

  • @pooperscoopr69 can't satisfy everyone...

  • @pooperscoopr69

You're awfully judgmental for someone who likes Dream Theater. -____- Bob Gatzen > Mike Portnoy

  • It's great to see someone playing the Cymbals well, not just hitting them as hard as possible!

  • @TheRossKinsey Well thank you Ross! I like to think of myself as a "story-teller" solo drummer. Telling a story requires 3 basic elements:

    1. Dynamic Range ( loud>soft)

    2. Timbre (the nature of sound)

    3. Density (linear and composite voicings)

    Hope this little concept helps

  • Very inspiring performance! I guess I`m going to practice right now XD

  • @wolowolowolo I know that feeling... it's why we play drums!! Have a happy and productive session W!

  • Bob you REALLY helped me in my early days of tuning. My kit sounds great thanks to your help! You're a great dude!

  • @gtrocksyosocks It's a 2-way street... I get much pleasure out of helping my fellow drummers out... keep up the good work and please...spread the word!

  • @bobgatzen of course of course! I've recommended you to many friends of mine. Thanks for sharing your tips. Happy Holidays!

  • @gtrocksyosocks Same to you!

  • @NoSCopes Thanks No! Which drum are you referring to?

  • @NoSCopes I view each drum on the kit as a completely "separate" instrument. For instance a 10" inch drum behave very differently than a 16' drums... wouldn't you agree? Therefore I chose a head that sounds "best to me". Check out "Snare-Ware" video and listen closely the drums. .Almost all the heads different. Tell what you think of the the overall sound...does the kit sound good to you?

  • I figured that was the issue. (direct drive versus a drive shaft). Hmmm...... Is there a double pedal that steps up to the plate for such an issue? I would buy another single setup but the places we play don't allow for the space. Do you have a teaching DVD on tips, tricks and techniques for playing. Sometimes I feel like a one trick pony when it comes to doing Tom rolls.

    Thanks for the help.

  • @Practicle24 The BOA pedal is the epitome of the "direct" drive pedal. However, it is temporarily out of production. It's distributed by DW so you can write them for more info. If you can't locate a BOA pedal, or at least test one... my next choice would be the "Axis" pedal system.

  • Well thank you very much P!

If your willing to use 2 BD's... single pedals work best. No doubt... the secondary pedal on a double-pedal set-up is difficult to match feel & response compared to the primary pedal. Keep in mind... the invention of the double pedal was driven by eliminating the second BD... less schlep!

  • Nice vid Bob. You made rudimental nonsense sound genius!!!!!!!

Can you help with double bass technique and I can't seem to get the tension right for fast alternating. Some people can do double stroke rolls with their bass drums. I have a double pedal. It's a Tama Iron Cobra. Is a double pedal not as good as two single pedals??

  • Hey Bob, thanks for the awesome tips on tuning from your protip videos! They really helped me!

  • @rohbit MY pleasure...let's stay in touch

  • Hey bob i play guitar and piano as well as drums, You say this will help with tuning drums with the pitches and everything, Is this true? Can't seem to tune my drum because it just doesn't sound right when i've done it. I followed everything you said in your tom tuning video but still my drums sound a bit off.

  • @SoundOfSorrowSOS Playing a tonal instrument certainly helps in tuning drums. The problem is in the difficulty of establish a definite pitch from a drum. If shells were perfectly round, bearing edges true and heads that are perfectly formed...tuning would be a breeze! The key is to be gentle with the drum key, make small incremental changes and listen closely to identify pitch.

  • @bobgatzen Thanks bob, Oh and btw nice playing those ghost notes are insane!

  • @SoundOfSorrowSOS Thanks so much SS! Ghost noting is the key to groove.

  • @bobgatzen Ghost notes are very usefull and fun to use when you get the hang of them! :D

  • @SoundOfSorrowSOS Agreed!

  • he looks a lot like jason bateman. a lotttt

  • @jdougs916

he reminds me of david garibaldi a little too

  • Oh my god I want my drum heads to sound just like yours! I've been playing for 5 years and I can't tune my drums to save my life! Good thing I watched your "Tom Tuning" video because I'm going to conquer my bad tuning for good tomorrow. Good playing by the way!!!

  • @Stiffdrummer07 Tuning has always been difficult for drummers. We simply don't practice Tonality. So sing, sing , sing! I can't say enough about playing a secondary instrument like guitar or piano. We're afraid to give up the time, but I can guarantee it translates to the drums... it's well worth the investment.

  • your tips on tuning are the most informative and easy to follow than anyone i`ve ever met thanks great stuff.oh yeah you play pretty darn good too!love the ghost notes.

  • @stixx692001 Thanks Stix! My pleasure. My goal is to help fellow drummers discover their sound and feel at the kit.

  • mr. gatzen i`ve been playing for over 25 years and never took a lesson. so i`m better than some worst than others, could you possibly write me and help me discuss my future drumming plans and what i should do to get over this wall i`ve hit? my e-mail is stixx692001@yahoo.com. i know your very busy but would love to hear from you.also my facebook is richard covert type in name to find me. i`m holding my snare with a buccaneer banner behind me.hope to hear from you sir.

  • @stixx692001 Best to send me a question. I'm overwhelmed with daily replies... I'm always fighting time & energy.

  • Love the ghost notes on the snare. Very subtle but really make that beat.

  • @jameselwood44 Me too...they're just as important as the accented notes... hmmm... maybe more important!

    Thanks james!

  • @bobgatzen mr Gatzen what is your microphone setup? I love this so much man. :D

  • @drummingtothesky Good question Nino. Here are 2 set-ups that work me... best to experiment 12-mike set-up BD-SM91 inside/KMS 32 04 44 Outside SNR- SM-Beta 57 top / KSM 137 Bottom TOMs- SM 98 on rack toms / KSM 44 on 14&16" Overhead- (2) KSM 44's or (1) VP-88 5-mike set-up (2) SM 91's (PZM's) under the left & right side floor toms (1) Beta 52 in front of BD (1) KSM-44 behind the kit (1) VP-88 Stereo mic in front of kit. No close mics except the Beat 52 (6-8" away from front BD head Bob
  • I've watched a lot of your videos and you are a great «pedagogue» (teacher). Semms you are also a great player...thx for the tuning lessons...though I do not have an ear as sharp as yours.

  • @zobazoba69 Thanks you very much z!

Practice makes perfect... corny but very true. Drummers have to work especially hard at pitch recognition. Best to devote consistent time at the piano or guitar...it will enhance the drum experience....I guarantee it!

  • @bobgatzen

Oh, man, that is soooo true. Ive been drumming for about seven years, and after I picked up guitar, I found a new respect for it.

Your videos and advice are awesome.

    Keep it up.

  • @AMisfitsLyric That's great to hear... spread the word... all for one and one for all!!

    Big thanks AM!

  • your an inspiration man.

  • @drummingtothesky and you are too for saying that... it means a lot to me! Thanks D

  • what kind of heads do u use on your floor tom?, cuz i really hate mine

  • @blakvswite Back then...G-2 Coated. My fave these days is the new EC2-SST

  • @scbraga120 Great news....I love success stories...keep em' coming!

  • @scbraga120 Well thank you very much S! However, let's use the phrase "WE" rule. More vids brewin'... please stay tuned!

  • good job man! good taste and good tuch.

  • @maurus1965 BIG thanks maurus

  • very nice XD

  • @djkells3 thanks XD!

  • @bobgatzen you have double bass pedal ?

  • @yoshiskato Oh Yes, started playing double BD's when they first hit the scene.

  • Hey, what are some heads you recommend for toms and snare? My parents might be getting me a set for christmas, and I'm just checking out a few things to replace the stock heads, etc. Btw, I watched your videos on tuning. That's very helpful advice. If only me and my friend had found those a long time ago when we were tuning his kit. Lol.

  • @herokight Thanks hero!

Choice of heads is subjective...personal choice. Here's an Evans head set-up that is versatile, offers good durability and will get you started.

Toms: EC-2-SST clear batter / EC-reso or Genera reso

Snare: ECS-RD or PowerCenter-RD with the Hazy 300 Snare/ Puresound “Blaster” snares

BD- EMAD 2 or EMAD Onyx and EMAD reso with an EQ pad

  • this would sound much better if he was naked

  • How do you get such a nice sound of snare with both coated or clear drumheads?

  • @cuestacola Balanced tuning develops clear pitch. No magic...just practice in establish the same pitch at each lug position... easier said than done... best to check out the "Snare Drum" videos on the channel and o alot of practicing

    Good luck C!

    Bob

  • NOW WE SEE BOB JAM!

  • where are the overtones in the drums.... itswhat makes em sound.

gotta tunes to the drum not to a note...

  • the way your drums sound really MAKE THEM CUSTOM

  • @FrydPraduct Now that's a phrase I have document ...consider it stolen my friend! LOL! Thanks Fryd!

    Bob

  • Nice, thanks, didnt realise how badly tunes my kit was, it has a new lease of life from your tuning videos, Thanks!

  • @oJosephx That's great news...thanks Joseph!

  • have you ever thought of switching to sabian Cymbals?

  • @FrydPraduct I'm familiar with the product and the staff. But I'm very happy with my longtime Zildjian relationship so no...I haven't considered changing camps.

  • @FrydPraduct it doesn't matter the brand. it's the cymbal. alot of the older pros played with a mixture of cymbal types for the best sound. Now with all the sponsoring stuff people just stick with one brand and it's harder to get a broad range of sounds.

  • great sound in those drums

  • dude awesome solo!! but i have a major problem, i keep leading around the kit with my left hand when i play a right handed kit, any other tips other than turning the kit around? help would be much welcomed :) but once again fantastic music :)

  • @bbathtub101 Thanks b! Are you right handed in regards to daily activities (eating, tieng shoes, etc)? If so, you may be blessed with a strong left hand. I'm a heavy right-hander...I constantly have to work on my left hand.

I suggest you keep the left hand strong...it's an asset on the drum-set.

    Bob

  • @bobgatzen im actually left handed but i was taught on a right handed kit, but now i have a double bass pedal i cant reverse the kit anymore, should i just work on my right hand more?

  • @bbathtub101 Will Kennedy is a lefty but plays a right handed kit just fine. If i were you I'd work on the right hand

    B

  • @bbathtub101

Will Kennedy is a lefty but plays a right handed kit just fine. If i were you I'd work on the right hand

  • AWESOME!!! VERY nice!

  • awesome solo man!

any tips on how to inprove my left hand's finger speed? my right hand is like 10times faster at bouncing the stick with just my fingers

  • @xreort I'm a heavy "righty" as well. I spend 75% of my practice time on left hand technique. Also, during daily activities I purposely use my left hand often as possible. The only way to strengthen your weak side through continuous repetition. But keep in mind, if you play best with the right lead than use it.

  • @xreort One more thing practice both "matched" and "traditional" techniques. Traditional is perfect for developing left handed single strokes.

  • i have a Chad smith snare drum what heads should i use??

  • @drumer671 Remind yourself that DRUMHEADS RULE! You can make any snare drum, including Chad's... sound many different ways. The drumhead is largely responsible for tone and feel.

I'd start off with a traditional, all-around performance set-up... that works well in an just about any musical format. The Evans Powercenter-RD with the Hazy 300 snare head. If can afford an extra batter head, explore with the ECS-RD...a completely different sound and feel.

    Happy hunting!

    Bob

  • is their a difference between power center and power center rd

  • @drumer671 Yes, the PowerCenter-RD utilizes a different shaped protective patch. The PoweCenter utilizes the EC center dot configuration.

  • Hey there Bob!! love the videos my man.. just one quick question and it might be kinda weird but i really love the drum sound on this particular video- Don Henley- The Boys Of Summer (Live) (HQ) ......it should be the one with henley not The eagles...i really love the snare drum sound....how could i get that kind of sound on a yamaha tour custom?

  • @BestInt182 Yeah, it's agreat snare drum sound. The LA studios were famous for great snare drum sounds back then. I suggest the Evans hazy 300 along with the PwerCenter-RD. Tune the reso to between G-A with the batter head at the sampe pitch. Than simply move the batter head upwards in small increments and test each setting. Also, pick up a set of Min-Emad Mufflers to fine tune sustain. Let us know how it works for you

  • @bobgatzen thank you so much for the tips. I will definately try it out..thanks

  • hey bob .. can u plz advice me ? ive got a set of new tama superstar hyperdrives wit stock head on em .. i tuned the toms to 10" - C , 12"-F sharp , 14" - E Sharp and 16" - C .. is this correct ? i hear alot of vibration on the 16" .. ive also placed O rings on every single tom .. plz advice ! :D

  • @gunpowderageboy

Always keep in mind that pitching toms can vary depending many things... shell design, bearing edges, hoops, head types, suspension system, etc.

Here are "general" pitches that are likely to work.

    8"- Ab, 10"- Eb, 12"-C, 14"Eb octave lower than 10" & 16-B

    Hope this helps

  • hey Bob im a big fan of your videos and i was wondering what notes each drum should be tuned to on a 5 piece kit to make it sound a little better and more rich.

  • @8u77355 Thanks so much!

Here are "Overall" tom pitches that will get you in the ballpark. Pitches can vary depending on head type and shell construction.

Remember! Specific pitch is muting one head while tuning the other. Overall pitch is striking the tom while mounted on the kit. 16"> B-C, 14"> D-Eb, 12"> F-Ab, 10" > C-D and the 13 is generally happy around an "E".

Also, you can tune in octaves between the 14"&10@ D and the 16-12@ C

Octaves are powerfulI use them whenever I can.

  • @bobgatzen Thanks a lot Bob it means a lot to get help from a pro such as yourself that has helped me out a ton as a drummer of about a year and a half! Keep on grooving!

  • @8u77355 thanks for the good news... really helps keep me motivated!

  • @8u77355 Thanks 8....10"- Eb>D, 12"-C, 14"Eb octave lower than 10" & 16-B>C should get you in the ballpark.

  • Hey Bob GREAT playing, and your tips have helped me out alot over the years! What do you consider to be the best and most versatile ride cymbal to cover as many genres as possible in live mic'd situations? Thanks again for the great vids! You are one of the drumming communities greatest assets!

  • @jtsinc1026

My favorite Zildjian ride is the "Breakbeat" which I'm using on this video. I have an array of them now. 18,19 & 20" versions.

  • do you ever use a tune watch for your drums?

  • No, never used one. My first drum teacher insisted that ear training is very important... especially for drummers. He was dead on!

  • MGK!!!!

  • OK... that's new for one me... gotta get a life and get my head out of the drums every so often!

    MGK?

  • @bobgatzen hey bob. i seem to be having trouble with my snare drum. i can tune it only by tightening the lugs of the top AND bottom head to the maximum, to the point that the lug cannot go any further. the second problem is that the snare rings excessively. i've tried changing my top head. i know i should also change the bottom head too, but just with the top changed there is NO improvement at all. is it possible that snare drums die out? (its not a pro snare, std mapex v series)

    please help!

  • Hey bob what is a beater patch?!

  • It's a small protective patch that adheres to the head of the bass drum. Just more protection that extends the life span of the head.... the most expensive head the kit!!

  • Bob, can you show me what the 14" snare, 12" tom, and 16" floor tom should sounds like?

    Thank you

  • There are 3 separate tutorials on the channel. Best to search "Bob Gatzen Bass Drum, Toms and Snare Drum Tuning". After you check them out, if you have any questions feel free to write me.

  • Are the Bob Gatzen sig. sticks still available from regal tip? I've checked several places and they've been out of stock.

  • Yes, they are in production. The BG Maples & Birch sticks are considered "boutique" sticks. Many stores are reducig inventory and sticking with the tried & true models. Go to Regal Tip online and make a request. Let them know you spoke to me. Thanks Steve.

  • Awesome! Thanks Bob, and thanks for these videos. I've been playing for about 20 years and every time I watch one of your clips I learn something new. Love your sticks too.

  • Thanks steve... good news...especially on the sticks!!

  • Very impressive

  • drums tuned to perfection. good job

  • thanks d

  • Bob, man I tell you, your one of the best drummers Ive seen. Now, I know you probably hear that alot, but its true. I just got a Tama Imperial Star kit not too long ago, soooo I was wondering if you had any choice head for the snare(14 inch) what would you pick? I wanna know from an expert:)

  • Thank you so much! My fave set-up to check out a new snare drum is the Evans Powercenter-RD and the Hazy 300 snare (reso). Try this combo and let me know how you feel about the sound. Perhaps I can zero in a on a combo best for you.

  • @bobgatzen

alright man i'll try that. I personally had a Remo Powerstroke 3 in mind. You recommend it? and please keep the comments comin, so i can tell my drummer friends" GUYS! I TALKED TO A FRIGGIN FAMOUS DRUMMER!!" and i have a vid up, would you do me the honors of checking it out.

  • I stopped by your channel but wasn't able to find any "Cody" vids?

  • Wow, Bob, you are a fantastic player! And like always, drums tuned to perfection.

    Nice work man!

  • Can't tell how much that means to me. Thank you Miguel!!

  • hahaha, that's a fake name.
