I was under the assumption that the agencies CANNOT leave you homeless, that sounds against the law...I thought they have to find you something, cant leave you with kids on street or you could sue them. I know in one time they put me in a bedbug ridden motel in ac nj, where my children were eaten alive (one of the worst experiences of my life!!!) So glad thats over. I know have two jobs and everything is okay. I really feel for these people.

Fatkhulla, those who are "very successful in doing this" arrive in US with intellectual capital - education - they acquired either as the rich of poor societies or as members of more equalitarian societies where adequate free education is everybody's lot. They use that education to their advantage in the elitist US society, which is NOT giving adequate education to its poor and utilizes the education as means to reinforce and legitimize inequalities. That's not always true. Many come with no English and little education and are still successful. My dry cleaner came from Korea with nothing and today is very rich. He worked very hard in many different jobs. That's all it took him. I went to school, studied, and today have a good job. That's all it took me.

I am certain that low income housing in New York would be very affordable for this family. They have one child and another on the way. A $6/hr job would be able to afford it. And I am sure that a man his age with children would qualify for state run education or vocational training. This is the type of system I support. One in which you choose to teach a person to fish instead of giving him a fish.
Though this is true it does not change the fact that there are poeple that need help now. I belive the 'right' to blame the government comes from the fact that they set up these services and then deny use of them for arbitrary or inhumane reasons.
Everything is situational. It's the governments responsibility to provide services to help out people in need - hence taxes. But I also think if the government makes an attempt to help and someone is too lazy to better their situation, they shouldn't keep receiving help that someone else in need could use.
They deserve no help - and if they die because of it, "they'd best do it and decrease the surplus population?"

A lot of the homeless have mental illness and have no family that would take them in. In major cities they tend to congregate for social services such as food/shelter, but donations of food and money have waned in recent years and this is the result. New York has really high housing prices so there will always be a homeless population, its particularly sad to see innocent children involved though. Especially when so many in New York are extremely affluent.
It's been this bad in New York for an extremely long time, it has just got much worse since Bush stole the presidency. The family has no responsibility, can't even manage the welfare they received. Children should be placed in a foster home because the "parents" are not doing any good! The family needs help. This is America. The woman needs help with getting an education and a good paying job. The father also needs the same thing. There are organizations out there to help people get on their feet. Did you see him spend the rent check on a new pair of sneakers? Who should place the children in foster care? Joining the army is the most sensible thing you said. However, it is a matter of choice. After the Bush administration, who the heck wants to join the friggin army? I think the shelter should be available to those in need, once a need has been established, there should be conditions to living in shelter like, free childcare, while you go to school to get certificate of some sort, job and interview training, and a job upon completion. You fuck up you get out, simple. You get to keep your benefits

I just do not understand one thing: People from around the world spend thousands of dollars just to enter the US so that they can find some job to make money and pay the debt back, and in fact I heard many are very successful in this. That's not always true. Many come with no English and little education and are still successful. My dry cleaner came from Korea with nothing and today is very rich. He worked very hard in many different jobs. That's all it took him. I went to school, studied, and today have a good job. That's all it took me.

It's not "obscene". It's actually very common in economically depressed areas for people to not even attempt to work or do better for themselves because they won't be paid enough.

I am certain that low income housing in New York would be very affordable for this family. They have one child and another on the way. A $6/hr job would be able to afford it. And I am sure that a man his age with children would qualify for state run education or vocational training. This is the type of system I support. One in which you choose to teach a person to fish instead of giving him a fish.

Everything is situational. It's the governments responsibility to provide services to help out people in need - hence taxes. But I also think if the government makes an attempt to help and someone is too lazy to better their situation, they shouldn't keep receiving help that someone else in need could use.

A lot of the homeless have mental illness and have no family that would take them in. In major cities they tend to congregate for social services such as food/shelter, but donations of food and money have waned in recent years and this is the result. New York has really high housing prices so there will always be a homeless population, its particularly sad to see innocent children involved though. Especially when so many in New York are extremely affluent.

Absolutely disgraceful that these shelters would turn away a family with two small children. The system is messed up...we need to do a better job of taking care of the homeless.
