The "flashbang grenade" is actually a concussion grenade, meaning it pops and shakes the fuck out of you, deafens you, and then makes you mostly useless for a short amount of time. It doesn't blind you like in the video games, just stuns you.

WRONG! There's a reason it's called a FLASHbang. When it detonates, there's both a 6–8 million Candela flash and a 170–180 dB bang. The flash overpowers your optical nerves, creating a few seconds of temporary blindness.

The "concussion grenade", most common being the MK3A2, is just a bunch of TNT in a cylindrical casing, which kills mainly by the overpressure it creates, especially in enclosed spaces, along with the limited fragmentation of the casing.

When clearing a normal room the use of grenades that flash 5-9 times is standard procedure. These are really hard to ignore since they flash and bang, but they don't blind.

Then there's the one setting, basically one huge bang. These can fracture bone and create an over pressure that is meant to shock the recipients body.

Not necesarily, in real life they would be doing this much faster. Not to mention the enemies within the room most likely wouldn't be alerted until the team had breached the door. The reason they peek is to identify # of targets and their position within the room as well as if their are any civilains.

The flash will blind you momentarily but the main function of the flash bang is to distract and disorient the target so that they are easier to take down. Even if you fail to see the flash, the noise will deafen and confuse you.
