trotlines and commercial fishing have degraded Santee to a sub par fishery. There used to be bigger class fish. If you want trophy cats you should check out the James River in Virgina. Please catch and release the big ones.

Looks like a fun trip!I love Santee,but Lake Wateree is 4 miles from me and Lake Montecillo is 25 miles so I rrarly make it down that far to fish.

i love catfishing. i live in ohio and there are some giants last year all together i caught a 20 lb, 21.5 lb, and a 41.5 lb. those were my highlights. got a few nice ones there your self.

we released all the 30 and 40lbers can only keep 1 fish over 36 inche per person per boat

20 lbs was the biggest.. all others weighed about 15 to 17 lbs..Also had some good runs, but couldnt hook them..

thanks river..i guess you can have one good catch every now and then.. fish were in the shallow water 1 to 2ft using shad..cut shad from tail to gill and hooked the fillet side then through eyes
