  • My theater department is doing Guys and Dolls and I'm apart of the mission band. Does anybody have any suggestions on how the Mission band is supposed to react during this song? I feel like we always just keep really bored face because we aren't sure what to do. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • @DemiRose95 Get into it! You're supposed to glad that he's "converting"

  • I saw him do this in the actual show and it was fantastic, the crowd was on their feet. It was a shame this occurred for him but he still carried it beautifully.

  • the singer has such a beautiful voice. I love the fact that he is annoyed that his mic doesn't work, but then chucks his hat and grabs the other mic and just gives a magnificent, effortless performance.

  • Love the choreography, don't like the remake at the end! Too funky for Guys and dolls!! But it is a marvelous musical indeed!! :D

  • @ThurstonSmexyOakley... "As a former Nicely-Nicely myself..." Easy does it skippy. Get over yourself.

  • @oromis4793 lol "easy does it skippy." that's actually really funny haha, but i'll be honest, i agree with the guy, it's a bit too technical.

  • I'm not a fan of this rendition. As a former Nicely-Nicely myself, this just doesn't do the character justice. It's too choreographed when it should feel spontaneous, charismatic, and lucky. Also, this actor couldn't do the New York dialect to save his life.

  • Am I going in with it? I'm going, I'm going, I'm go-

  • the 1992 revival looks and sounds better. But this is still better than most renditions i have seen.

  • @whowhatwhenwhere97

The one at LaGuardia Highschool was mind-blowingly good

  • @SC2Modspot appreciated ;)

  • @whiteboimonologuez

    No prob Pakman :3

  • Ack. I like to pretend this revival never happened. He's way too feminine, they messed with the arrangement, the projections are distracting, etc. Real theatre people should look down on this MTV crap.

  • @ilovetheatre13 WHAT! You need to stop living in the past and open your eyes to different interpretations, it wasnt that he played the character feminine, just different. And if you are gonna sit there and tell me that the Full voice High E at the end doesn't make your jaw drop you need your pulse checked. This has nothing to do with MTV, the vocal quality of broadway actors has improved in the past 10-15 years tremendously. Walter Bobby had trouble hitting A's, never mind an E

  • I myself play nicely nicely Johnson and I love this performance I love doing this song and I'm nervous because this thursday is opening night of or schools guys and dolls

  • I've seen several performances of this song, including one by a very good friend of mine, but none have compared to this one. The power this guy has in his voice and his comic timing, not to mention brilliant choreography, makes this the BEST interpretation of this number I have ever seen.

  • Mics suck. Never seen a production where mic problems didn't distract from the performance.

  • @ThePhantom135 Have you seen Spring Awakening? It works so well there.

  • @ritsfata I did. SA is more of a rock concert/musical and it works fine. i was referring to productions of more traditional shows. I just wish people were better trained so that their voices could carry in theaters without mics because mics have a tendency to mess up (like here for example).

  • Wats his character called btw?

  • @pabloDAjanitor13 Nicely Nicely Johnson

  • were doin this atm in our theatre group of teens

  • this guy needs to do more shows. Seriously. Like, now.

  • i like how you hear the guy in back saying "AM I GOING IN WITH IT? IM GOING! IM GOING IN WITH IT!" HAHAH but props to him for doing it and all the choreography while holding a mic which was never planed for, theres theater for you.

  • @Technoreviews411 It is also when you combine LIVE theater and LIVE Tv

  • 0:27 oh yeah right they are Soooooooooooo Bad

  • the funny thing is, when things go wrong in theatre, community or professional, people usually don't care. they acutally think it's funny. it's only those critics with rods shoved up their asses who make a big deal about it.

  • it was FAB!!!

  • Lauren Graham = Yummy

  • High, HIGH, E natural, full voice, i came. 3:48

  • The guy that runs in at 0:52 disliked this three times.

  • I love the fact that even though his mic went out he stayed in character and stayed focus. That shows that he is a true professional.

  • The only good part of this version of the song is at the end hahahaha this version of Guys and Dolls SUCKED

  • @penti77 You have no clue what you are talking about. Sit down.

  • @ejlove475 Take back your quip, Spare me your blows, You need a trip, To more professional shows !

  • There were a lot of weird mic problems that year. Still he sang brilliantly!!

  • wow!

  • Now if only the 2009 cast could act...Love the modern reinterpretation, but they sucked all of the joy out of that show.

  • sorry this is creative but you dont need to rewrite a classic :P

  • 1 person is rocking the boat.

  • "1 person" was the one sound guy

  • he was definitley just in my town for a concert. im pissed i missed him...love him soooo much!

  • we're doing this in chanber choir :D

  • I love Lauren Graham <3

  • A brilliant electric piece of theatre. Yes, the sound failed. Yes, the guy carrying the mike onstage shouldn't have been heard. YES the number went on, on live TV and in the theatre with millions of eyes on it and trememdous pressure.

And he pulled it off. THAT's the theatre.

Oh and he did it holding a mike, which he never planned for.

  • @syberyenta Well said! Speaking as a techie myself, the amount of pressure to make a decision when standing in the wings with a spare mike is immense - they were seriously fast. I was very impressed.

  • we're doing this play and our director choreographed this song EXACTLY like this cuz she liked it so much<3

  • He looks nothing like Nicely Nicely Johnson.

  • @zerohour20XX what does nicely nicely johnson look like eh?

  • I watch this like every day. By far my favorite version of this number

  • lol the guy at 3:49 was trying so hard not to laugh

  • i'm playing the general at my school... yus! lol

  • i'm playing the general at my school... yus! lol

  • Yes there were mic problems but he recovered amazingly i believe!

  • I did a a JR production of Guys and this was one of my favorite numbers. I was Lt. B :) So what if there was mic problems. It happens all the time. Trust me. He's still amazing. This number is amazing.

  • I LOVE THE GENERAL!!!!!

"You've been a very bad girl!" lol!!

  • @jlbassplayer Last time I checked you were a douchebag AND Tituss Burgess is the best Nicely Nicely Johnson this world has ever seen.

  • @jlbassplayer last time i checked your a big fat racist dude...

  • @jlbassplayer I would bet the last thing you would want to see is a black Nicely. Well too bad not only is he nicely but he was on the awards. I also did this play and I was Nathan Detroit. And guess what we had a black nicely too lol. Racist.

  • hilarious!

  • 1:09 epic facee

  • I like how at 2:52 he start singing like a black person or was i the only one to hear that and at the end that look he has is like ok whatever

    LMFAO!!!

  • MARY TESTA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • exhibit A as to why you should never let the third string sound guys work the Tony's

  • I have been a very bad girl ..lmao ..that was hysterical!!!

  • great choregraphy!

  • Does anyone where i can get the recording to this song and this version not the old ones

  • lol i have been a very bad girl

  • That was a very nice save :) Oh and General Cartwright at the end made me cry I was laughing so hard. Mostly cuz I'm playing her lol ;)

  • Absolutely fantastic. I'm playing Nicely Nicely this coming June and this has given me shed loads of inspiration.

  • i honestly thought that d giving d microphone b4 d music started was part of d whole act!

  • whats the lady's name? what else has she done?

  • @COURTNEYXCORAL the one that introduces it? she was in the gilmore girls also

  • The choreography was very awkward. fortunately they made up for it with the gospel take of the song.

  • what about lt. brannigan?

  • lmfao Nicely passing out the whiskeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey :D

  • I was lucky enough to see this group on Broadway. I have only seen this once, but I have the feeling no other will compare with this group. Tituss' voice is just incredible. <3

  • when I was in Guys and Dolls (Jr.) our microphones got messed up during this song, so me as Miss Adelaide, had to run out and be like, oh there's my quater. I guess it's the curse of Guys and Dolls.

  • @desmondxk tituss burgess, he was also sebastian in the little mermaid on broadway. he's super nice!

  • It actually works better with a microphone. Kinda draws more attention for him.

  • im nicely in our school play, guys and dolls jr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XDDDD

  • I wish you all the best. I played Nicely a few years back and it still remains one of my favourite roles. What a blast...and a great show. Cheers.

  • Tituss Burgess

  • .,i love it...

  • lol i'm going i'm going! i know its not funny since it got screwed up but it made me giggle

  • Tituss Burgess, marry me? Yes or yes.

  • i get chills. EVERY TIME!

  • I would do terrible, unforgivable things to sing like he does. Damn.

  • I'm supposed to sing this in my middle school musical

  • wow the sound guy should be fired he dropped the ball this year

  • Gosh, where are Mary Testa's lead roles?

  • SO ENVIOUS OF HIS VOICE!

ahh, i'm in love with it, saw him in the little mermaid, he never ceases to amaze me!

  • AMAZING!!

    and I LOVE BACKSTAGE CREW

  • it's even better live! i loved the show!

  • seconded! it was AMAZING.

  • I swear, I can't get away from this video. Tituss is incredible, I'd give anything to perform with him one day.

  • Hot damn. That was amazing.

  • Phenomenal. Absolutely incredible.

  • Phenomenal performance! Props to Tituss for putting on a terrific show even after after that mic debacle.

I saw the show on Broadway three days later and Tituss was even better. The ovation after this number lasted over 40 seconds.

  • AMAZING

  • titus burgess is AMAZINGGGGGG

  • RAMON!!!!!!! hahhah i seee him!! aww frickn awesome cept for the miking:(

  • the revival is completely uninspiring, its no wonder why it got so few tony nominations. look at the 1994 revival of guys and dolls if you want a good production

  • I agree dramavirtuoso - Where is the ENERGY to this number??!! Especially the way they are going for a gospel revival kind of feel to it. It's just lacking the punch. Also I think you mean 1992 for the revival (the one with Nathan Lane correct?)

  • LMAO! at the "i've been a very bad girl" part!

  • Thanks for posting all these Tony vids!!! Much appreciated :)

  • "Am I going in with it?" Haha

  • "Am I goin' in with it? I'm goin', I'm goin', I'm go-"

And that pretty much sums up the whole night as far as sound goes.

  • Sadly. When Neil Patrick Harris said in the opening he made cuts to pay for the opening number, I thought he was joking. Now I know better.

  • @amadeusrayis I know right! LMFAO

  • @amadeusrayis was that part of the script?

  • @amadeusrayis Remember when musicals weren't miked? A lot of us were born too late in that regard. It's just tacky.

  • The sound guy for the Tony's was horrible. Thank God Titus is amazing and knows how to handle a hand microphone.

  • the woman who does the "bad girl" part is hysterical!

  • Thanks for posting this. I love this show! He has some serious pipes!

  • The only really good 4 minutes in the whole production. Oliver Platt is terrible in this. Trust me, Titus Burgess holds it all in until this number. Nicely-Nicely is the best role in the show and you wonder where the heck this guy was for the past 2 hours by the time this number comes along. But Mary Testa? Awesome.

  • it's too bad about the poor miking here. but his voice really saves it
