She fooled him into believing she was going to get it published and he tried to bribe her (which since he didn't know it wasn't real, shows him trying to sabotage her newly found success and blocking income even though he has no job to speak of). I don't believe it is her trying to harm him, but seems like a tiny Cold war, and she just like the US, won. Although either could of achieved victory.
