Well, you are supposed to touch the clay when you have gain enough momentum, so you are not really kicking and moving the clay at the same time. But I'm so used to it that I can throw while kicking.
You find you have better control with a kick wheel? That is like scratching your belly and patting your head. You are a lot more talanted than me.
