  • does anyone else think this sounds like damon albarn?

  • I remember a while ago, when is about 7 or 8, my parents took me to go see andrew bird live.We got to be in front row.I miss that day.

  • Comment removed

  • the cover itself is cute :>

  • @JessPoetics178 actually Andrew bird doesn't care for science. Look it up, he has his opinion about it said in an interview. Look it up and find something new(:

  • 3:30 - 4:00 is what a nervous tick motion would sound like if it was a song.

  • this is good

  • funny cause i actually have a nervous tic motion of my head... not to the left though.... damn.

  • @NatureGnome Haha, me too!

  • cifilorp mine to

  • perfection. period.

  • esta canción es simplemente adictiva....

  • 8 people dont know how to whistle.

  • Andrew Bird, I am forever thankful I found two years ago. As for the debate. When I listen Andrew Bird I hear what God gave this man. Talent to write, to play music that hits at the soul just right. I love that he has such a strong Scientific view as well in his works. But god isn't in this song. Its a catchy song you can listen to and sing along. Sorry that you are blinded by the church that you worship not God. Now go back to listening to Underoath or some other "christian band" no one cares.

  • Andrew Bird is my new favorite human being.

  • @annaliselovesyoux Get over yourself. You are not NORMAL just because you don't like the song. You're just like everyone else: ignorant. Try to find the connection between God and this song, then come back.

  • and ok lets all be honest anyone who names an album 'the mysterious production of eggs' and has a orange animal in a cape is a little strange. so stop trying to be all deep and interesting and justify why this guys ideas are against religion. he's an atheist. simple enough.

  • @97chelss I love you Chelsea. Hahahaha. But I agree with this. I'm not crazy for saying this song is weird because it's really not normal. If that's the kinda stuff your into cool beans I never said you had to change we all have our opinions but it's just common knowledge that this is an athiest song and it's not normal. Excuse me for being normal and not LOVING this song;

  • I LOVEEEEEE CHEESEEEE<3 <3 <3

  • i love his whistling.

  • im gonna shit my pants when i see him on the 15th in skowhegan

  • @TheUniquinick I WAS THERE!!!! It was so good.

  • @Fonchezzzz it was awesome, but the sound was a little off for that small of a venue. but still..........AHMAHGAHD

  • both versions are insane but i think his live version better.

  • what does it even mean

  • This guy makes me wish I could whistle.

  • Strangest song I've heard in my 14 years of existence. I love it! <3

  • @valval97 Thanks for recommending this song, Val! You rock!

  • i love the charisma andrew bird puts into this song.. but one quesition, what is that green thingy?

  • @2dtrack A beautiful unknown creature. I want to marry it.

  • i miss 4:59 Q_Q

  • wtf is he talking about SOMEBODY TELL ME

  • @97chelss

A lot of the lyrics make me think that it's about how humans came into existence ("You're what happens when two substances collide") along with an insinuation of a car accident that seems to have involved drinking. Lots of Bird's songs are about the nature of mortality and the biology of life, especially on his album "Noble Beast."

  • @rinkokoto Ok so does that mean that this is an athiest song

  • @annaliselovesyoux I doubt it. Andrew Bird has said several times that he writes his lyrics according to his fancy and if they flow off the tongue well; he says he could care less about the interpretation. He only cares for the sound.

  • yeah i really wanna get up and dance when i here this...brings a smile to my face...jk.

  • strangest song ive ever heard in my 14 years of exsistance. how do people like this music.

  • @annaliselovesyoux It's called having good taste.

  • @mrnivlac RIGHT. cause this is the kinda music that makes me want to get up and sing along and dance!

  • @annaliselovesyoux I'm sorry to butt into this conversation, but please don't be obnoxious about other people's music. Music doesn't necessarily have to make you want to dance, it should just make you feel something.

  • @tejanosx5 alright, this music makes me feel something. depressed comes to mind. also annoyed, irriated. and sleepy..

  • @annaliselovesyoux

It's alright. I had bad taste in music when I was 14 too.

Hopefully you'll grow out of it.

  • @BryanJ136 Oh right! Yeah, I completely forgot about the magic switch that you undergo on your 20th birthday that makes all good music turn bad and this depressing non-christian music that doesn't even makes sense becomes good. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • @annaliselovesyoux

Christian isn't even a genre, friend. It's a label they put on shitty bands to make them sell to brainless people. His lyrics don't even touch on God, let alone insult him. However, you are right, he is an atheist. Who cares? He's an incredibly talented man. I understand not liking music, which is perfectly okay, but insulting the man because of his beliefs is really sad and also a sin. Just Saying.

  • @annaliselovesyoux Lol this is the strangest song you've heard?

  • @mcmjcm2 Yeah

  • @annaliselovesyoux When you get older, you'll learn to appreciate the time and effort (and obviously talent) that goes into making good music. All you have probably been subjected to is music manufactured by record companies to make money.

  • @jzmajor This song is against God... So excuse me for enjoying music that isn't about athiests joining together. I don't care about religous arguments or anything but honestly this is called the comments, not the compliments. I went on this song because someone from my school said she liked it, me and my friend thought the name was stupid, we listened to the song, and proved our theory correct. If you can't handle the heat get outta the kitchen.

  • @annaliselovesyoux Whoa! I'm not an atheist at all. Just because Andrew Bird likes to sing about the scientific approach to life, doesn't mean that his songs are suddenly horrible. I appreciate the song because of what went into it, the different instrumentation.

Besides, what you just said is really contradictory: I could just say, sorry for enjoying music that isn't about oppressed preachers joining together.

  • @annaliselovesyoux Because we have a taste in music that goes beyond teenie bopper shallow junk.

  • Strangely catchy.

  • I feel like loving Andrew Bird isn't the same as loving any other musician. Its a bit of an obsession, a bit of a cult. <3

  • It's one thing to be talented. It's an entirely other concept if you're Andrew Bird. "Talented" simply doesn't cut it.

  • this song is in my heads classic song list for life. i just know it

  • ah yes, it's the ever-amazing half donkey, half llama, and half rabbit creature known as the Donkllambit. strange to see it out at this time of year...

  • @HeyLookItsGoatman It would only be strange if it weren't wearing a blanket.

  • After listening to this, left my house, got in my car, drove to the shops, bought the album, came home, put it in, pressed play.

  • Appreciate that this man has the amazing audacity to do things such as *strum* his violin. bamf.

  • My love grows for this man each time this song greets my ears.

  • 5 people have nervous tic motions of the head to the right

  • HE NEEDS MORE FANS

  • @camillajanes way too much information

  • i lost my virginity to this song

  • @camillajanes That's what I like to hear. I lost mine to the entire o.k computer album...

  • @camillajanes i actually did too..

  • 5 people have broken speakers. :(

  • Great voice!!But what's the song about??

  • I so want to meet him. There's a thought process that goes on here that is most likely his alone.

  • I really like the way he says "accounts" in beginning when he says "And by all accounts you really died."

And then the way he says "North Platte" right after that.

    And how he says "bereft"

And the way he says "Head"

And how he says "A nervous tick motion of the head" at 3:33

And that last "And by all accounts you really should have died"

And the way he whistles. And Plays violin. And Guitar.

    And everything else about him.

  • @KeeganDE95

    are you alright?

  • @KeeganDE95 Totally completely agree with all of that very strongly. All except 'Tick', because it's 'Tic.' Hehe

  • am i the only one that can see, the animal is walking?

  • @53MAJ nope but i c his eye getting bigger

  • Anybody else bored of the witty "who ever disliked this __________" comments?

  • Comment removed

  • @jessssssicar no, it's the right song.

  • @MarchForthMusic yeah noticed after listening in a little more =/ thought i deleted the comment.

  • my headphones only work in the left ear.

  • thanks for posting! this is great.

  • Whoever disliked this probably has a nervous tic motion of the head to the right and is therefore biased.

  • Reading a debate on the comments section of YouTube is kind of like watching two rocks fight.

  • Does anyone know what the lyrics mean?

  • two substances are the sperm and egg. That creates millions of possibities, and it's a miracle that one person resulted while all the other possibilities died. What goes on undelivered? The dead sperm that didn't become people.

  • I'm worried that Bird isn't going to make any more songs in this style. I love the new stuff, but I wish he whipped out the electric guitar more often.

  • brilliant!

  • is this about a jaywalker being hit by a 16 wheeler?

  • @sunrisessunsets5 I think it's everything inbetween that.

  • @sunrisessunsets5 or maybe it's about a guy getting hit by a plane. He mentions Tarmac and hazmat

  • I can't believe I just discovered this man.

It's like my head just exploded and sunshine came in.

    Wow.

  • Does anyone have an instrumental version of this? Dat whistle @_@

  • This song would be better with less singing, or just totally instrumental.

  • genius!!!!

  • I listen to this song like ten times a day. Loveeee.

  • Amazing plain and simple

    Seriously a professional whistler

    Amazing

  • too good. . . .

  • I agree. Never would, but if i did, this would be playing in the background while I took a "golden shot".

  • I love this song...lol though a bit of a downer. I believe i know what it's saying but I could be misinterpreting. Let's see...The person loses belief in God leaving him with no purpose in life? We are only here by chance--And of course it's difficulties that comes with this realization is unnerving but the truth none the less.

lol I disagree obviously but I do love his lyrics and opinion anyway. Always good to hear someone else's point of view, especially from one with such talent ^_^

  • @GodInspires good interpretation,,,alot of his songs have the same concept,,,his whole first album is about his atheist beliefs....

  • @logan43602 he's atheist? i still love him despite...just curious.

  • @logan43602 he's atheist? i still love him despite...just curious...and by first album do you mean music of hair? i thought this song was about an addict because of the references like 'over-prescribed', 'imbibed', 'substances', and, of course, 'nervous tic'.

  • @GodInspires

Missing the poetry for reading the words. It's like looking at a piece of abstract art at a gallery and going 'Uh, I like this but is it concurrent with Scriptural Doctrine?'

Dumb. Apparently the purpose in life is posting YouTube comments with names like 'GodInspires'. yawn. Save it for the knitting circle.

  • @plainPLAIDplain Wow. Well, aren't you just an angry pretentious person? By the way, God inspires me to paint, and if he sends waves, surf ^_^ ...lol Knitting?! Really?!

  • @GodInspires hey now, my grandma knits... hahaa

  • @caligeek

    lol sawee...no offense intended :-P

  • @GodInspires

All the great poetic concepts come from pre-christian sources. Praise the Goddess. Her cosmic, lustful, mysterious flower is the source and the destination.

Christianity is for the Bankers of the Spirit.

  • @plainPLAIDplain

like most things, its sad but true

  • @GnomesAmok - and indeed those pre-Christian sources are of primarily Indo- European, ergo white derivation. A fact which is commensurate with the contemporary situation of the white race leading in ingenuity and creation. At least thats what the empirical and forensic evidence shows---but I know---facts are "racist".

  • @Gravelandart

History is not the most reliable source, remember this. They can in fact be one of the most skewed and weighed things to put support on. As far as which race is more ingenuous it depends on what evidence you look at and whos books you read.

We can just agree that the human race as a whole is very wonderful and innovative. That Asians, Africans, Europeans, Americans, have all contributed to the wonderful and disgusting history of the human race.

  • @MrActivatedCharcoal History is written by the victors. And skewed by the conqueror's paradigm. That's what this Gravelandart bigot fails to realize. There is no proof, none whatsoever, that caucasions or lighter skinned people are the preeminant race, unless you consider centuries of genocidal suppression, egotism, and smug twisting of facts and hegemonic reinforcement through imperialism some vague symblance of fact--but doesn't considering that really just expose the bias?

  • @pianoaficionado29 Amen.

  • @pianoaficionado29 That is rather well put.

  • @GnomesAmok - Gnomes, funny how your "tolerance" and "progressive" inclinations impel you to block me from your page while you spew ad hominems and threats all over mine you trendy coward. However, we both know Sean that you would never say those things to me in person. You can't hide. Homo.

  • I want that green thing as a pet.

  • HAHA me too!

  • I don't get it.

  • I keep trying to whistle this! It's not working!

  • Magical (:

    I love Andrew Bird, he's a genius.

  • It's refreshing to see such a great musical act emerge from the midwest.

  • Anyone else strongly admire the green animal on the cover?

  • so much.

    i wish it were real

  • it is.

  • I think it may be more brownish

  • Definitely green. Majestic creature.

  • @boomerangfetcher I just want to know what it is lol. :]

  • Hahaha! Classic.

  • Amazing.

  • his album stuff feels more, idon;tknow, just lowkey, soft and pretty. ido prefer live tho, thats why its called "live", it has more LIFE and energy

  • My situation appears to be the same as yours.

    This song is amazing.

  • really pretty song... strongly influenced by radiohead it seems!

  • i totally agree, his live version kicks ass. it is WAY better than on the album

  • link?

  • wow, this song is beautiful.

  • Andrew Bird come back to Buffalo!!!!!!!!!

  • good, he sounds alot like modest mouse.

  • But better ... in many ways

  • if many means most.

  • Really? I don't hear it

  • I can't really hear it. I think they're both innovative and individual sounds, just not really that similar.

  • I love this song!

  • U don't know what you're talking about... THIS IS A GREAT SONG!! xD

  • morbid, but nice sound
