@JessPoetics178 actually Andrew bird doesn't care for science. Look it up, he has his opinion about it said in an interview. Look it up and find something new(:
Andrew Bird, I am forever thankful I found two years ago. As for the debate. When I listen Andrew Bird I hear what God gave this man. Talent to write, to play music that hits at the soul just right. I love that he has such a strong Scientific view as well in his works. But god isn't in this song. Its a catchy song you can listen to and sing along. Sorry that you are blinded by the church that you worship not God. Now go back to listening to Underoath or some other "christian band" no one cares.
@annaliselovesyoux Get over yourself. You are not NORMAL just because you don't like the song. You're just like everyone else: ignorant. Try to find the connection between God and this song, then come back.
and ok lets all be honest anyone who names an album 'the mysterious production of eggs' and has a orange animal in a cape is a little strange. so stop trying to be all deep and interesting and justify why this guys ideas are against religion. he's an atheist. simple enough.
@97chelss I love you Chelsea. Hahahaha. But I agree with this. I'm not crazy for saying this song is weird because it's really not normal. If that's the kinda stuff your into cool beans I never said you had to change we all have our opinions but it's just common knowledge that this is an athiest song and it's not normal. Excuse me for being normal and not LOVING this song;
A lot of the lyrics make me think that it's about how humans came into existence ("You're what happens when two substances collide") along with an insinuation of a car accident that seems to have involved drinking. Lots of Bird's songs are about the nature of mortality and the biology of life, especially on his album "Noble Beast."
@annaliselovesyoux I doubt it. Andrew Bird has said several times that he writes his lyrics according to his fancy and if they flow off the tongue well; he says he could care less about the interpretation. He only cares for the sound.
@annaliselovesyoux I'm sorry to butt into this conversation, but please don't be obnoxious about other people's music. Music doesn't necessarily have to make you want to dance, it should just make you feel something.
@BryanJ136 Oh right! Yeah, I completely forgot about the magic switch that you undergo on your 20th birthday that makes all good music turn bad and this depressing non-christian music that doesn't even makes sense becomes good. Thanks for pointing that out.
Christian isn't even a genre, friend. It's a label they put on shitty bands to make them sell to brainless people. His lyrics don't even touch on God, let alone insult him. However, you are right, he is an atheist. Who cares? He's an incredibly talented man. I understand not liking music, which is perfectly okay, but insulting the man because of his beliefs is really sad and also a sin. Just Saying.
@annaliselovesyoux When you get older, you'll learn to appreciate the time and effort (and obviously talent) that goes into making good music. All you have probably been subjected to is music manufactured by record companies to make money.
@jzmajor This song is against God... So excuse me for enjoying music that isn't about athiests joining together. I don't care about religous arguments or anything but honestly this is called the comments, not the compliments. I went on this song because someone from my school said she liked it, me and my friend thought the name was stupid, we listened to the song, and proved our theory correct. If you can't handle the heat get outta the kitchen.
@annaliselovesyoux Whoa! I'm not an atheist at all. Just because Andrew Bird likes to sing about the scientific approach to life, doesn't mean that his songs are suddenly horrible. I appreciate the song because of what went into it, the different instrumentation.
Besides, what you just said is really contradictory: I could just say, sorry for enjoying music that isn't about oppressed preachers joining together.
ah yes, it's the ever-amazing half donkey, half llama, and half rabbit creature known as the Donkllambit. strange to see it out at this time of year...
two substances are the sperm and egg. That creates millions of possibities, and it's a miracle that one person resulted while all the other possibilities died. What goes on undelivered? The dead sperm that didn't become people.
I'm worried that Bird isn't going to make any more songs in this style. I love the new stuff, but I wish he whipped out the electric guitar more often.
Anybody know of any interviews where Andrew Bird talks about the similarities in the melody between "Heretics" and "A Nervous Tic Motion Of The Head To The Left"? I'd love to read about why he used such a similar melody.
I think in this version, compared to his live Bonnaroo version, it sounds like he's trying to figure out how to play this song. I like the Bonnaroo version much better, but- hey, each to his own.
I love this song...lol though a bit of a downer. I believe i know what it's saying but I could be misinterpreting. Let's see...The person loses belief in God leaving him with no purpose in life? We are only here by chance--And of course it's difficulties that comes with this realization is unnerving but the truth none the less.
lol I disagree obviously but I do love his lyrics and opinion anyway. Always good to hear someone else's point of view, especially from one with such talent ^_^
@logan43602 he's atheist? i still love him despite...just curious...and by first album do you mean music of hair? i thought this song was about an addict because of the references like 'over-prescribed', 'imbibed', 'substances', and, of course, 'nervous tic'.
@GodInspires Respectfully: it seems that religious folks seem to miss the humor and irony that runs through poetry and music such as this. He merely says that an 'esteemed panel' says 'you really should have died'. Despite being built on iconoclastic principles, xians seem to get way too hung up on exoteric and explicit meanings and don't pay enough attention to subtext, suggestion and oblique references. imho
Missing the poetry for reading the words. It's like looking at a piece of abstract art at a gallery and going 'Uh, I like this but is it concurrent with Scriptural Doctrine?'
Dumb. Apparently the purpose in life is posting YouTube comments with names like 'GodInspires'. yawn. Save it for the knitting circle.
@plainPLAIDplain Wow. Well, aren't you just an angry pretentious person? By the way, God inspires me to paint, and if he sends waves, surf ^_^ ...lol Knitting?! Really?!
All the great poetic concepts come from pre-christian sources. Praise the Goddess. Her cosmic, lustful, mysterious flower is the source and the destination.
@GnomesAmok - and indeed those pre-Christian sources are of primarily Indo- European, ergo white derivation. A fact which is commensurate with the contemporary situation of the white race leading in ingenuity and creation. At least thats what the empirical and forensic evidence shows---but I know---facts are "racist".
History is not the most reliable source, remember this. They can in fact be one of the most skewed and weighed things to put support on. As far as which race is more ingenuous it depends on what evidence you look at and whos books you read.
We can just agree that the human race as a whole is very wonderful and innovative. That Asians, Africans, Europeans, Americans, have all contributed to the wonderful and disgusting history of the human race.
@MrActivatedCharcoal History is written by the victors. And skewed by the conqueror's paradigm. That's what this Gravelandart bigot fails to realize. There is no proof, none whatsoever, that caucasions or lighter skinned people are the preeminant race, unless you consider centuries of genocidal suppression, egotism, and smug twisting of facts and hegemonic reinforcement through imperialism some vague symblance of fact--but doesn't considering that really just expose the bias?
@GnomesAmok - Gnomes, funny how your "tolerance" and "progressive" inclinations impel you to block me from your page while you spew ad hominems and threats all over mine you trendy coward. However, we both know Sean that you would never say those things to me in person. You can't hide. Homo.
