  • Our world governments need some "Street Cents"

  • CLASSIC THEME SONG AND SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My God, I haven't heard this in 20 years. I loved this theme song! Street Cents was a great concept for a kids' TV show.

  • Benita is in the new BMO commerical

  • I wish they'd bring this show back. We've needed it since the recession hit.

  • This show helped me so much about how to be a "Smart Consumer" growing up as an older kid going into through my teen years, with how to find out which products are good or "Fit for the Pit!" Those were the best days and such a great learning experience.

  • I had a crush on benita ha.

  • @lesliekwan80 I actually kinda had a thing for Anna Dirkson, she was such a babe watching back then in those days!

  • OMG i feel old... but the good old days.. laying on the Floor eating supper in front of the Big ol Floor Modle TV...

  • Why'd the CBC cancel this show?! It was one of the best shows I grew up watching. Miss the guys! The song rocks!!!

  • To me, the show went downhill in early 1996 when that Rachel girl showed up. Replacing Anna I think her name was.

It totally bottomed out when Jono left.

  • Totally agree!!! Ever since Anna left the show started dwindling, she was the last of the original greats, Jono, Benita, and Jamie - also miss Brian as Ken Pompadour too!!! BuyCo was hilarious! One of my most fave theme songs from one of the best shows watched growing up.

  • It had a few more good seasons after Jono and Anna--I really liked that Demore guy and Andrew Bush. But when they dropped the show with in a show smart consumer kids versus BuyCo premise, it was just another blah CBC whatever.

  • I agree about Demore and Andrew Bush, they were pretty funny and talented - though the show just didn't have that captivating image anymore after the peak years.

  • Nooo, nooo! Somehow I repressed this part of my CBC childhood... Shoulda perhaps stayed that way.

  • A small correction. Jonathan Torrens was not one of the original three hosts. There was a different male host for a very small number of episodes, along with Benita & Jamie. Wikipedia incorrectly list Jonathan as part of the original cast. He was actually a correspondent on a story before joining the cast. I believe he ate fast food for a week or something to that effect. Why yes, I DO know way too much about Street Cents.

  • Its J-ROC aka J to da R.O.C!

    Know wat im sayin?

  • Ethan and Diddle are right. Jono is the most talented fellow to pass through this show. He started out as a special guest doing an early version of the guy who only eats at McDonalds and begins to ruin his health. Also the best singer by far. Great guy.

  • I wrote that "lame song" many years ago. It was originally written for a dream sequence skit, not as the theme. The lyrics were quite different, and did not include rhyming "Street Cents". That was a request sent in by the producers as we were recording it. By the way, it was recorded in the same studio in Halifax as Sloan's first album - Smeared I think.

If we had known it was going to be used more than once, we may have taken it a bit more seriously.

    "Take the roylaties and run!"

  • For what its worth, I loved that song. Thank you so much for writing it.

  • Thanks for posting! Interesting to know how the song came about...

  • One of the later hosts, Kim D'Eon, is now on one of the Canadian Entertainment "news" shows that have popped up like toadstools in the past year or two.

  • j roc yo know what im sayin mafucka

  • I think Jonathan Torrens should be named Canadian of the Year. From Street Cents, to Jonovision, to Trailer Park Boys, he has been part of Canadian pop culture for almost 20 years.

  • @DiddlePickle

yeah and J-Roc should accept it on his behalf, nah-mean

  • awesome show!

  • Wow, I thought I was the only who remembered this show. Thanks for posting. What a lame song, but I remember singing it in junior high because they showed this awful show at my school. How embarrassing.

  • Yeah, I remember this too.

  • I miss the origional Street Cents. :( World of Ducks and Jono made the show awesome. :D
