I just read an article that said Delia made a Christmas cake, also sold at grocery stores, and there was a minor row because she said it could be made entirely with everything in the box, but the recipe actually needed butter, milk and an orange rind.
Oh well, it's a minor thing. People should at least read the box before buying and taking it home. I see it's not just men who don't often bother to read the manual, so to speak.
I can vouch for this recipe though if you have a gas oven, cooking on such a low gas mark can be difficult. I use an oven thermometer to ensure the temperature is correct.
Ive made this recipe for all the years since this was shown and written in her cook book! Its a wonderful cake. Thanks mc4102, I will give the non alcohol version a go for the rest of the year! I thoroughly recommend this recipe! You dont need any marzipan or icing with this one!!! YUMMY!

and if you don't like alcohol, you can always replace the booz with apple or orange juice.... i've tried it and the cake is still fantastic to eat!
