  • I think it it's allegro ,and not molto vivace,or presto.Otherwise,a good interpretation.

  • cello players can be melodramatic like I am:)

  • hee hee. funny piece.... good played in perfect unison as in this example:)

    Excellent tempo...

  • Lol south Carolina

  • @Grundalizer! Thanks for the Suggestion was not a Bach piece that I was familiar with. Yes this does seem a litle on the rushed side.. It seems to lack the smoothness that I am use to hearing.... but I still like it.. :)

  • As far as the orchestra playing a very strong part in conjunction with the cellos, i'll agree, but the interpretation makes up for it. Other versions because they are slower, have sounded more melodic with the delivery of the notes...especially the smaller string instruments.

this one, with the faster pace, is more dynamic and bold. the orchestra only adds to the boldness.

  • i love this pace, personally. i find it to be suspenseful and brilliant.

  • it's beautiful bur needs to slow down.

  • Out of the cellos who plays what part?

  • Playing this for my Winter Concert. Gonna be a blast!

  • i am a cello player myself and playing this song with such passion and beauty is impossible. I love yo yo ma and all the music he plays

  • Wow, this is beautiful!! This makes my life complete!! I must learn how to play the cello like you my friend! :} Bravo!!

  • I played this concert last weekend. I like very much

  • Coming from a background of heavy metal music, my appreciation for Vivaldi is pretty obvious. I love those hits at 2:17 and have heard a lot of recordings in which those sound absolutely massive. This whole piece is genius and Yo-Yo Ma performs it well. This, in my experience, is at a faster tempo than other recordings but I think it accentuates the subtle and more ostensible aspects of the inherent power in this piece. I've never seen sheet music for it; is it technically at a presto tempo?

  • @soittotaiteilija Hey... I actually found the sheet music. Do you want me to give you the link? Or I can just give you the pdf file.

  • @Yahshuaismylamp Either one is fine. Thanks!

  • @soittotaiteilija Alright I will message you and go from there. I have the sheet music for the 2 cellos, but I can also get the sheet for the whole orchestra.

  • That's what I'm talking about for a friday afternoon!

  • is yo-yo ma first or second cello?

  • out of all the people who listened to this, one is a violinist.

  • @Gchang881 hey now, go easy on us violinists! I would love to hear the interaction between two violins in this piece!

  • @aznpridex18 it would sound pretty cool but the fact still stands that it was written for cellos~

  • if this is in G minor, how come i hear alot of F sharps? this piece is in f# minor.

  • @SakuraBloome They're using baroque tuning here.

  • beautiful

  • I can't stop listening to this. Yo-Yo and Jonathan go so well together in this piece, like yin and yang

  • its a "piece" not a "song"

  • the one person who disliked this is stupid. this piece is simply amazing.

  • @MrSkinner25 The one person who disliked this probably missed...

  • I jizzed in my pants...

  • I have been scouring You Tube for YO Yo Ma playing Four Seasons, specifically Spring. Has anyone seen it? Please clue me in.

  • I am a big fan of Vivaldi.

I do wish he (Yo-Yo Ma) would play more Vivaldi's concertos, just a lot more.

  • The two cellos interaction is incredible.. such beautiful music.. 1:07 -1:19 the interaction between the two is so so so cool...

  • 2:21 - 2:28 I can't get enough of this! ><

  • I love Yo-Yo Ma, but I don't like this recording much at all. The balance is way off (e.g. harpsichordist playing too loudly, but I feel the soloists are completely overpowered by the orchestra in general) and the tempo is too fast for my taste. It just comes off as being sloppy and chaotic, even though all of the parts are being executed properly.

  • best version out ever recorded

  • @tmack1337 Hey! don't be hatin' on us harpsichordists. We're underappriciated as it is....but yeah, that guy was a bit loud.

  • hey wait! waitwait !YO-YO-MA is playing baroque celle?

    Is that real thing ?

  • @amagaeru5000 yes! he got his cello converted back to baroque setup to play baroque music!

  • Pure heaven! This is THE most passionate i've heard!

  • Pure heaven! Wo ai ni, Yoyo! Xie xie

  • i dont know much about music, but i feel as if the pure raw excitement of playing with the patterns in music is lost and replaced with a greater emphasis on a civil cohesion....I dont know if that makes sense. I think a listener could get a lot more from this music if it was done properly, though maybe I'm just stupid.

  • I can not find this song any where!! I want to download it! :'/

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • i think their cellos are tuned differently, or are specialy stringed or something. It's in a different key then others I've heard.

  • @Kimonogirl13 They're using baroque celli; Ma had his modified to make his baroque albums with Koopman

  • @Divyamp47

    o cool, good to know

  • WOW ... 1:10 thanks harpsichord for fucking it up.

  • El clavecín se escucha fenomenal.

  • Best rendition on youtube. Not bad Yo-Yo and Jonathan...

  • yayyy!!!!!!!!! XD

  • Bravoo!! How magnificent & beautiful!! Great harmony!! Thank you very much for posting & sharing*^-^*

  • it's awesome.;) I Like it..:D

  • My friend had to play this song to make it into a orchestra with a violin accompaniment.... at the same tempo... so hard

  • how... how do play this fast??????? it's just not possible

  • my favorite cello duet :)

  • such beautiful tones!!!!

  • Yoyo, is playing the cello :double .I pressume, Jonathan Manson, is on the violin.

  • @gothicangelred i thought they were both on cello

  • @gothicangelred they are both playing the cello hence the title being "double cello"

  • @gothicangelred yo-yo ma and jonathan mason are both on cello, the peice is played with an orchestra that's why you can hear violins (:

  • Vivaldi wrote music for God. Vivaldi's music is of great importance to the development of Baroque to Classical music. I put him as influential as Mozart to the music world.

  • I have listened to a lot of classical music, but Vivaldi, at least to my ears, heart, and brain, is on another level. His music is insane. Vivaldi's music has changed my life. Whereas one or two songs from some of the well known "greats" of classical music might sound very good to me.all of Vivaldi's music sounds good. There is that thing that clicks inside our heads when we hear a song we like. There is bearable music, then there is music that physically moves us. Vivaldi makes the latter

  • @Grundalizer not get picky but Vivaldi is a Baroque composer... not classical at all, just to clarify:)

  • @Grundalizer I feel exactly the same way! Bach used to be my favorite composer, but then I realize its only for his best songs (Partitas, Brandenburg Concertos, etc.) but all of Vivaldi's music is amazing, you can never get bored of it.

  • @Grundalizer Not on another level to my ears but certainly always sound fresh no matter how many times you hear a piece by him. That said I can't think he composed anything as moving as say Bach's St john Passion.

  • does anyone know who's playing what part?

for now im just assuming yo yo has the 1st part

  • yea i think it's safe to assume that... however, you may take into consideration that the 2nd part is the 'background bass' of sorts, which is just as/more important than the 1st part, but you know, either way, yo-yo ma makes it sound amazing. :)

  • hmm... even earlier... might be that i have another *version* of it though..

  • Hmm.... Is it just me or are they playing half tone (don't know the english term) lower from 2:20 or something?

  • you mean a half 'step'? like on the cello, it's a half-way mark between the notes...

  • It is baroque pitch, A=415.3 Hz, one half step lower.

  • *tears*

    Theyre awesome =)

  • Wow, the speed is astounding o.0

Even though my friend and I went a bit slow, this is almost a minute and a half faster than our speed. Although faster isn't always better, in this case it's great

  • Yep thats right. When me and TXOrchDork played it, it was wayyy slower. lol

  • Isn't interpretation a wonderful thing?

  • its called interpretation you ignorant idiot

  • well apparently you need to study more.

allegro doesnt necessarly mean to play at speed of 96.

  • pwned

  • grow up

  • you can only study so much... i idolize both the musicians playing does that mean im still no allowed to have a constructive opinion? And btw, allegro is no where close to 96 bpm so all of you who thought you were talking all big need to relax its just a post.....

  • you dumbass. constructive opinion?

you were making a statement as if you were criticizing them. .

and we are relaxed, seems like youre the one crying about it bitch.

  • @thehorrorist123 First of all, calling this is a song just makes you seem more ignorant than you already do. Second, tempo markings have existed only since Beethoven's time, which means there are no tempo markings on Vivaldi's music (excluding titles such as Allegro or Andante, which denote a mood rather than a tempo). Stating that it should be played in 96 bpm, consequently, is wrong.

  • its not called rushing if they keep the same speed through the entire piece.

  • I agree with you truly.

  • Why doesnt this have only 444 views??

this vid deserves way more views and ratings than that.

I really like yo yo ma and Manson's interpretation of this piece. Quite fast, but also musical and emotional. I can really sense their passion. This song makes my day

  • now it has 1,376
