That's a contradictory statement if I ever heard one.Stern was anything but "sloppy."Do you think you could even tell the difference between Stern, Heifetz, Kreisler, Oistrakh, Lin....if you heard them all playing the same piece? I think not.Why don't you take up miniature golf?
i have an audio cassette of stern playing the mendelssohn concerto n it is the best among all the other violinists like sarah chang, perlman, mutter...etc..etc
@minor7b5b9 Stern did have a magical touch and I love his playing..but take a listen to his mentor, Shlomo Mintz play this piece..he definitely got something from his close association with Mr. Stern..Mintz is something else. I also love Stern's Tzigane and Rondo and Caprissioso, his Geminiani
@minor7b5b9 Perlman and Vengerov in the same level with stern but these are realy high levels of playing there are realy small diferences they all play extremly well and then it is how each of them see the piece how he understands music so i think the corect expresion is that you like sterns aproaching to this piece better !! he is really very musical!!
Oh I own this DVD. it is great! It is called the art of the violin. IT HIGHLIGHTS ALL of the great violinist of the past. Stern is one of my favorites.
oh mann, was soll man dazu noch sagen, es is einfach genial, in der heutigen zeit wird teillweise leider zuviel wert of brilliante technik gelegt, er hat aber noch das gespür für den perfekten ausdruck!
reminds me of John Garfield playing the violin in a movie ... mommie dearest jumps in the ocean and dies. Boy that john Garfield can play what a talented actor...
Note: the reason this video is so short is that it is an excerpt from 'Art of the Violin' a video showing only short takes from all the great violinists of the 20th century. Isaac Stern performed on Eugene Ysaye's violin.
Isaac Stern was one of the greatest violinists. This
video dates from 1967. I prefer the live performance he
did on CBS in 1962, at his peak as a performer. Too bad this video is so short! He has a nice rhythmic bite here. I give this video a 4. The 1962 CBS performance was a high-five!
If you're not a Stern fan, I doubt very much you have a real appreciation of violin. It's a contradiction in terms. People likie Stern, Heifetz & Paganini ARE the great masters of this instrument.
what violin is that

sometimes i love his playing, but other times it annoys me.

Hi, just can't imagine anyone mistaking Kreisler for Heifetz for instance. If there are such people they are simply deaf and thus irrelevant.

Are you serious?? Anyone with an ear can tell each of those artists apart within a couple bars or less.
