the first 3 seasons were the best. the movie was good too. seasons 4-5 were decent. had some good episodes. i find the new seasons tolerable but not as good as they should be. the show went downhill after the creator stephen hillenburg left

Actually, The last good episode was Shell of a Man (season 4, ep.2). Thats when everyone started to leave and new people were getting hired and when spongebob started to become bad. We can't fix this, because they'll just ignore us.
Spongebob used to be funny innocent and crack jokes now he just crys and or screams in exitment. Patrick used to be kinda smart but not very bright and make the show funny with his whatever but happy attitude. Squidward used to bassicaly call spongebob and patrick dumb shits (obviously without saying it like that) and ignored there child play but ended up making himself look like a fool. Now he just screams and crys over everything that spongbob does.
The new episodes aren't THAT bad, really the only problem is that they're not trying to dispell those rumors of him being gay, it's so annoying. But other than that they're not that bad...

Before Hillenburg left, Spongebob was an decent, pleasurable person, patrick was funny and dumb in a clever way, squidward was less of a screaming psychopath and more of a wise-cracker, plankton was just a typical villian (not a depressing whiner), Krabs' greed was not incredibly over-exaggerated, everyone in bikini bottom pretty much all knew and liked each other, and the main characters didn't cry hystericaly in every episode.

spongebob completely lost all of its cleverness and hilarity when hillenberg left the scene, the old artwork was better, less glossy looking and more genuine. it also went along with the solid humor that was implied. the newer ones try way too hard in terms of plot, and took the vices of every character and made them outshine their redeeming qualities. spongebob has gone down the toilet immesively, post movie era=crap

I did a li'l research. The first three seasons had something about 'em that made a 17 year old (me) want to watch it without even asking himself how much of a douche that makes him. The fourth season had some fine episodes, the other half was just stoopid and after that everything was completely gay.
The jokes are cheap attempts at copying the humour used earlier (AND GAY), the lines are GAY and most episodes have some sort of disgusting scene in 'em which ain't funny at all. WTF HAPPENED??!!

Spongebob has changed it's style, and while it is a slap in the face to loyal Spongebob fans, the new style of Spongebob is still funny, if not, then even funnier. They incorporate elements of situational irony and other elements of comical techniques, and use them perfectly. I think that people don"t like new Spongebob because it utilizes witty humor which is hard to comprehend, whereas old Spongebob uses simplistic humor, which is much easier to understand.

I totally agree. all of the older spongebob episodes are actually really funny and have jokes that even adults can find funny. All the new episodes fuckin suck and they aren't funny at all. The new episodes are surprisingly violent for Spongebob. I don't mind violence but one episode had Squidwards toenail get pulled off and it looked kinda bloody. I think the old episode are classic and the only funny stuff that comes out of the new episodes is when people on YouTube edit them.

The newer spongebobs are to random. they'll be talking about one thing then the plot trails of to some thing that has absolutly nothing to do with what they were just talking about. while in older spongebobs, the plot will stay in one steady direction. i hate the new spongebobs!

Personally, I don't see why people hate the new SpongeBob so much. It's not that bad and it's still better than anything else they have on Nickelodeon these days, in my opinion.

When Stephen Hillenburg left the scene, SpongeBob should have went with him. If the original creator of a show doesn't want to work on it anymore, then it deserves to be canceled or most likely the show will decline in quality. Paul Tibbitt obviously doesn't know what he's doing. He completely killed the simplistic humor that SpongeBob had by making the show have over-the-top plots with sickening humor. Totally agreed. The new jokes are crap. In the old episodes, Spongebob did a bunch of wacky shit, sure, but you can tell that he meant no harm by it, and he was smart. Now, he has an IQ of -30, and seems as though he INTENDS to piss others off as long as he's having fun, and Patrick always acts like a total dick. -The clever songs of old (F.U.N. or The Camping Song)

Ok... spongebob has always been a softy... but the difference between old and new is... back then.. if you pushed him too far, he'd throw you or try to kill you... in the new ones.. he just cries, n cries, n cries. Before Hillenburg left, Spongebob was an decent, pleasurable person, patrick was funny and dumb in a clever way, squidward was less of a screaming psychopath and more of a wise-cracker, plankton was just a typical villian (not a depressing whiner), Krabs' greed was not incredibly over-exaggerated, everyone in bikini bottom pretty much all knew and liked each other, and the main characters didn't cry hystericaly in every episode.

spongebob completely lost all of its cleverness and hilarity when hillenberg left the scene, the old artwork was better, less glossy looking and more genuine. it also went along with the solid humor that was implied. the newer ones try way too hard in terms of plot, and took the vices of every character and made them outshine their redeeming qualities. spongebob has gone down the toilet immesively, post movie era=crap

I did a li'l research. The first three seasons had something about 'em that made a 17 year old (me) want to watch it without even asking himself how much of a douche that makes him. The fourth season had some fine episodes, the other half was just stoopid and after that everything was completely gay.
The jokes are cheap attempts at copying the humour used earlier (AND GAY), the lines are GAY and most episodes have some sort of disgusting scene in 'em which ain't funny at all. WTF HAPPENED??!!

Spongebob has changed it's style, and while it is a slap in the face to loyal Spongebob fans, the new style of Spongebob is still funny, if not, then even funnier. They incorporate elements of situational irony and other elements of comical techniques, and use them perfectly. I think that people don"t like new Spongebob because it utilizes witty humor which is hard to comprehend, whereas old Spongebob uses simplistic humor, which is much easier to understand.

I stopped watching Spongebob since '09 because it was starting to get really stupid and pointless with Spongebob being a total idiot and Patrick being the biggest idiot. When Stephen Hillenburg left the scene, SpongeBob should have went with him. If the original creator of a show doesn't want to work on it anymore, then it deserves to be canceled or most likely the show will decline in quality. Paul Tibbitt obviously doesn't know what he's doing. He completely killed the simplistic humor that SpongeBob had by making the show have over-the-top plots with sickening humor. Also, what happened to Spongebob voice? It sounds like it has too much timbre nowadays.
