The train driver stopped the train cos he thought Gustav was a train robber cos Gustav stood near the tracks with the gun. The guy at the station called the police thinking he was really robbing the train when he saw Gustav with the gun and with the money bag. Police came and started chasing Gustav thinking he was a robber, Gustav ran away...

@Vislav the fact they're running and shooting from the hip with an old pistol at someone who is also running and is a decent distance away makes a bigger chance that he doesnt get shot. so i agree with u.
